  1. Hey folks, currently 9 seasons deep in a network save and I've finally achieved promotion to the premier league and I did it in style. Dominating the league pretty much from start to finish, the football for the majority was a joy to watch, goals galore in my favour.

This is my tactic that dominated the Championship scoring over 100+ goals and remaining undefeated at home throughout the season.

    4231:

    Sweeper Keeper - Defend

RB: Wing Back - Support,  RCB: Central Defender - Defend,  LCB:Central Defender - Defend,  LB: Full Back - Attack (Stay Wider)

RCM: Deep Lying Playmaker - Support,  LCM: Central Midfielder - Defend

RW: Winger - Support,  CAM: Central Attacking Midfielder - Attack,  LW: Inverted Winger - Support

    ST: Pressing Forward - Attack

Mentality & Instructions: Positive, Shorter Passing, Play Out Of Defence, Run At Defence, Higher Tempo, Low Crosses, Counter Press, Roll It Out, Urgent Pressing, Higher Defensive Line.

    *Sometimes Pass Into Space

However now I am in the prem, I am struggling somewhat thus far and have recieved a couple of bad results go against me. I tried the above tactic in the first couple of games in the prem but my suspicions of it being too aggressive for my standard of players and those I now face to be true. I was conceeding quite heavily which forced me to try to re-think slightly without losing too much of the attacking play from the former tactic . So this is what I've been trialling in recent games in the premier league and it's giving some ok performances thus far.

RW: Winger - Support,  CAM: Central Attacking Midfielder - Attack,  LW: Inverted Winger - Support

I was just curious though as to see if there is anything within these tactics, whether that be the roles and/or instructions that I ought to think about changing, to give me a better chance of surviving the drop?

  2. Given this tactic a little try recently, playing on Touch so tactical familiarity isn't an issue. I'm only 2 games in and yet to win but that's expected when I look at my team against the sides I've come up again, however the performances have been decent and I only lost both via 1 goal, one of which was a corner set piece.

I've given it a couple of small tweaks to better suit my personnel such as wing backs on support now on full back - attack. I push d-line up a notch also for a little bit of better compression plus I've a rapid centre half which helps with that higher line. I was wondering though do you think I could tweak a little further and move the CAM to CDM and as for the 2 CM's, switch the DLP to CM -S and  use a B2B instead of the CM - S with a DM on defend  behind them without losing the effectiveness of this tactic? I feel my current crop could be better suited to something like that than the original setup.

... Good work building this tactic though and I'd reccommend users to at least give it a shot if they are struggling and wish to use a tactic with realistic football being played instead of the vast majority of gung ho tactics I am seeing when in search of a tactic which can be deemed plug and play.

  3. Quick update on this. Seem to have found a nice tactic similar to the opening post. Changes off the top my head though were. CM(d) instead of the DLP, Inside forward instead of IW & the Winger might be on support now too. I play Narrow, the LOE is slightly higher and team press is slightly urgent.

The combinations across the pitch result in some lovely football being played, my pressing forward is an absolute machine I think that could be partly down to his PPM's helping though. One further question I have though is I have an emerging left winger who only suits being an out and out winger, so should I play him using that role are there any changes TI's or player roles tweaks I could make to fit him without too much disruption to the overall tactic?

4231 gegenpress dominates out-of-the-box. No need for any tweaks.

I tend to agree, I've chopped and changed formations in my current save now as I've struggled to find consistency. My current tactic is set up from using the default gegenpress 4231-wide but I've toned it down ever so slightly and modified 2-3 roles just to try make it a little less aggressive.

My pressing forward - attack. Is currently a goal machine. Something quite satisfying seeing my £150k transfer listed signing (Sam Surridge) rip up the championship.

  5. Let me start off with a quick apology for creating a new thread so soon to my previous. It's just i am struggling for ideas on how to implement what I am hoping to achieve. I play on FM Touch btw so my tactical tinkering shouldn't affect familiarity?

Anyhow I was recently binned off from my previous club so I've taken over at a mid table championship side. The board wanted Attacking football which is what I am hoping to create too with this system.

I have had a quick scan of the players at the club and IMO these roles suit the players I have available to me best and again it looks fine on paper I believe, the roles selected I am hoping should give me numbers going forward when on the attack & variety in my building of attacks. However the one thing I am struggling with is coming up with the TI's that will complement the formation, roles selected & crucially the attacking brand of football required. I only have a small handful selected currently as shown.

I have high line selected as on my front 4 I have selected close down more instead of upping the whole teams pressing intensity as whilst on a high line I'm still going to need to maintain some defensive stability. My back 4 aren't blessed with eletric pace so I don't want to be continuously done over the top from a direct punt or through ball.

    Thanks in advance.

Last but not least, a split block should be used with the optimal level of compactness (DL/LOE distance). Because otherwise it can disrupt your defensive shape more than it would be advisable.

Running the risk of sounding thick here, what does optimal level of compactness mean? Attempting to set up a split block in a 4231 tactic i have and unsure on how high my d-line & LOE should be that's all.

  7. Hello, quick bit of a background firstly,

I haven't played any version of FM in recent years until this year, I am playing on FM Touch, Started out as Blackpool, first season managed to finish 3rd losing in the playoffs semi's now into the 2nd season, average start thus far.

Been using the preset Gegenpress 4231 as shown in the screenshot (depending on player personnel available I may switch the BWM to a DLP) initially the tactic worked great in every way, it was creating chances with high XG & it was solid defensively. Howver I have noticed as the seasons have progressed the vast majority teams have become more way cautious in their set ups at home and away sometimes, which has resulted in my side having problems breaking down the teams that set up this in a stubborn, defensive tactic & to this point I have struggled to identify a solution to these problems and was hoping if any of you guys had any suggestions for me to take on board?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. I have had this 15 year old, 6'5 beast come into my club via my first season youth intake & just wondering what approach I should now take to help him reach his potential before I inevitably have to sell him on? My HOYD said he has the potential to be one of the best of his generation.

  9. Currently using a 3-5-2 counter attacking system. My strikers tend to be AF & DLF (s). The DLF (s) player is more suited to a Target Man so I have given him this role and added the PI (Dribble Less). My AF however can be susceptible to injury and my only backup striker has the PPM 'come deep to get the ball' & just doesn't suit playing the same role, he is a player with a v.good workrate though.

What other roles are there that I could potentially use to compliment my other forward the DLF (s)?

  10. Read up on this thread recently and implemeted some of the things said along the way into my own tactic. Currently using a  3-5-2 wing back formation with Burton no TI's/no PI's.

It seems to be going pretty well so far I have currently just battered Sheffield Wed***day 4-0, which as a United fan pleases me greatly.

Kudos to Cleon for this thread and others who have contributed.

  11. Thankyou for that @axehan1

Now I would really appreciate it if someone would be so kind as to show a couple of screenshots of players from a side I'm likely to begin a save with when the game is released. Reason for wishing to see their attributes and PPM's etc now is because I'd like to see if they'll fit in nicely with a desired tactic I currently have jotted down. (Sad I know)

    Erhun Oztumer

    Simeon Jackson

    Florent Cuvelier

    Franck Moussa

    Andreas Makris

Bet you couldn't guess the team I'm leaning towards beginning with...

  12. Hoping for a little feedback,

Note* These are purely just thoughts atm as I haven't had the time to load up a save and give this a go although I am set on the team I wish to choose.

How would one go about getting the most out of a shadow striker? I was thinking something along the lines of a 4231 with a 'winger' on attack, 'Inside forward' on support, 'shadow striker' & upfront a 'deep lying forward' on support with PI's to mimic him being a 'target man' without actually setting him as one. The central midfielder's would just sit so my attacking play would need to come through these four guys.

    Does these roles seem logical?

  13. On paper is their any obvious flaws that i may not be seeing in this 4-4-2 formation,

I've yet to decide on instructions as this is something I feel I will tailor depending on my opponents, weather etc..

    Mentality - Standard, Balanced.

    GK: G(D)

    RB: FB(A)

    CB: CD(D)

    CB: CD(D)

    LB: FB(S)

    RM: W(S)

    CM: CM(D)

    CM: CM(S)

    LM: WM(A)

ST: F9 (S) or (DLF (S) when my backup forward plays who has better strength.)

    ST: AF (A)

  14. I plan on starting a save with Blackburn when the full game is released & in the meantime I was looking through some players attributes and noticed Jordan Rhodes had a PPM that I had never known was in the game, a "Static Targetman".

Now I think I know what it may mean but some clarification would be greatful & I plan on using him as either an advanced forward or as a poacher. Would that PPM have any negative effect if i was to use him in either of those roles?

  15. I'm looking to embark on a career with Bradford City using a 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamond with the following TI's & roles: *I havent had time to begin this save yet because of my work schedule so this is me purely just asking for advice, opinions...

    Attacking/Flexible

More Direct Passing/Pump Ball Into Box, Hit Early Crosses, Get Stuck In

    GK: Sweeper Keeper (S)

    RB: Wing Back (S)

    CB: Centre Back (D)

    CB: Centre Back (D)

    LB: Complete Wing Back (A)

    DM: Anchor Man (D)

    RCM: Centre Midfielder (A)

    LCM: Centre Midfielder (S)

    AM: Attacking Midfielder (S)

    FW: Defensive Forward (S)

    FW: Target Man (A)

On paper is their any obvious flaws in this system or with any of the TI's?

One potential concern for me i think could be will the supporting striker and AM in their current roles get in the right positions from the knockdowns provided by the Target Man?

  16. Hi, llama3.

Now i must start with i know you have stated within this thread your initial formation you mentioned in Post #1 isn't a plug & play tactic. But having chosen to begin as Brighton and looking at their squad capabilites it seemed a good base for a formation & the style of football to suit IMO my only adjustment is removing 'More Expressive' as there obviously not quite on par with Arsenal's creativity. However looking at the comparisons page my defence seems rather weak in a fair few areas as you can see here,

    2ep7xxc.jpg

How could i adjust my formation accordingly, deeper D-line? Stand Off?

Now to my reasons for posting is my concern is defending!! i am struggling a lot against a side that plays 442 as 90% of their goals come from either through balls inside my central defender and full back. Or crosses from the byline.

Any ideas on how i could combat this, well and truly stumped right now...

Also how do you set up to defend set pieces may i ask?
