  1. I think there is room to discuss what Dynamic Youth Rating should look like in future versions of the game. With that being said, I do think we deserve some sort of answer from SI on how the feature was promoted and how SI will better manage expectations in the future. I think it would be great if we could get straightforward answers from SI on a couple questions.

    • When DYR was announced, fans immediately misinterpreted what the feature would turn out to be. Whether that was the fault of the tweet itself, or fans on these forums or reddit, or content creators on youtube, it doesn't really matter. Fans were misinterpreting the feature the minute it was tweeted out. Did SI recognize that fans were misinterpreting DYR in the immediate hours/days after it was announced? Yes or No?
    • If Yes, Why didn't SI correct this misinterpretation ASAP? Official responses from SI on this topic didn't come until months post-release, well after many fans were making buying decisions about the game.
    • If No, how is SI planning to improve their community outreach to stop this sort of response from happening in the future? This wasn't a small reaction, the videos by popular content creators talking about DYR have as many or more views that SI's own youtube videos promoting the game. SI were quick to comment on Zealand's video criticizing them on this feature, I'm sure they saw his original video where he misinterpreted DYR prelaunch as well. I cant be convinced SI didn't know the feature was being misinterpreted prelaunch, but that's just me.
  2. Just finished up the 2024/25 season in my save. Another 2nd place finish in the league behind Real Madrid, who have won the league 6 years running. This year the team felt more capable than ever of competing with the top top teams, beating PSG twice and advancing past Bayern, but we're still well off the pace of Real Madrid, who are the most consistently great AI team I've seen in any version of FM.

This year Inaki Williams had the single best goal scoring season I've ever had on FM. 56 total goals. 45 in 34 league games, only 1 goal of which was scored from the penalty spot. If he didn't miss a month due to injury I think he could have cracked Messi's all-time single season goal scoring record. Impossibly, that type of season wasn't good enough to win league player of the year, where he finished 2nd.  6 years into the save I still don't have a clear idea on who will ultimately replace Inaki when his legs fall off, but hopefully that is a problem for a couple seasons down the line.

  3. Always love reading through these threads every year.

I'm getting into year 4 of my save. The standout transfers so far have been Robin Le Normand and Martin Merquelanz. Robin came in year 1 and won fan's player of the season. His performance's encouraged me to do something I've never done previously and sell Inigo Martinez in year 2 for a massive fee to Man Utd, which allowed me to sign Merino ahead of schedule. Martin came in for a very small fee and has become the type of secondary goal scorer my team needed. 14 in year 2, 16 in year 3, both seasons splitting time with Cordoba. Retraining him to the right to cut inside improved him alot for me in my most recent season.

The striker issue is certainly worse than ever in FM21. Garcia is fine year 1, but his legs go quickly. I couldn't get Villalibre going and couldn't get Bautista to sign either, so it was slim pickings. I messed around with using Muniain/Garcia in a false 9/shadow striker combo which worked ok for a while, but couldnt hold up once Garcia moved on. Just rolling with Williams until the wheels fall off seems like the only real option.

  4. I just finished the 2028 season in my Notts County save and Arsenal had one of the most bizarre seasons I have ever seen. Arsenal managed to be relegated while still winning the Europa League, so they have managed to secure both Championship & Champions League football for next season. I figured I'd share the save file here incase anyone wanted to take on this challenge.

    Got it.

It always annoyed me, that Basconia wasn't useful of anything else, than for dumping crappy players.

I wanted to add the Tercera divisions, through editor data, and hopefully make them usable. If Bilbao gets promoted, Basconia should be able to get promoted (after adding the league), correct?

It was possible in FM19 to have the C team get promoted, if you had an edited database, but only if the B team was also promoted or already promoted. It was buggy though, and I had to remove the 4th division as a playable division after that season because of crash dumps. It worked fine for be after that however, with the B team in the 2nd division and the C team in the 3rd division. I think I submitted a bug about it, so who knows if it has been fixed or changed for FM20.

Approaching January window of 3rd season, just got next youth intake preview and got the "potential to be a real golden generation for the club" message, excited to see how good they are but worried how many of the positives about the intake mentions wingers and wide midfielders. This might turn out to be a very talented but very one-note intake.

That's exciting for sure. One thing I've ended up doing a few different times over the years with Athletic saves is moving wide midfielders or wingers back to fullback. If any of the wingers come through with 8s/9s in marking or tackling I'd consider training them to be attacking fullbacks. One of the best players on my save in FM19 was a wingback who came through the youth intake with no experience at the position. He grew to have defensive attributes around 11/12, which was ok considering he was elite going forward.

  7. I am into my third season as well. Year 2 we finished on 91 pts, but a long way off of Madrid and Barca who finished on 99 & 104 a piece. Villalibre massively stepped up in year 2, scoring 33 league goals, winning league player of the year, and European Golden Boot.

I had a really tough decision to make after that sort of crazy season. His attributes are good, but it felt like he scored based on the system, more than his own ability. PSG came in and offered over $50M for Villalibre, potentially up to $66M, so I had to pull the trigger and move him on. Making that sale enabled us to not only bring in Merino, but Ander Herrera as well to overhaul our midfield. For season 3, Williams will move up to striker and my first big regen, Sergio Imaz, will have a chance to take over at RW.

  8. One new player I wanted to point out as a transfer option is Jon Moncayola from Osasuna. For my second season, I missed out on bringing in Ruben Pardo, so I eventually brought Moncayola in to be a backup, with some potential to improve. But, once he got into my team he has been the linchpin that makes everything else work. Average attributes, but pretty good in the right places with the perfect PPMs for what I want from a DLP in my tactic.

Thanks that's good to know, is it specific to promises based over a multi season period specifically?

It seems to be broken either way. I finished in Champions League places after first season, but that didnt stop 4 players from being upset about wanting to play in the Champions League. They all got over it pretty quickly, most before the end of the transfer window. With the top guys all being on long-term contracts you might as well wait them out.

When did everyone move De Marcos on ? Feb first season and he wants to leave to go to China as they are willing to offer him mega wages

Willing to pay me £19M only problem is he would leave right away and I have looked on bringing in boveda as his replacement who has a £6M release fee but obviously he wouldn't join till July

I didn’t move on from de Marcos until 2021 and at that point I got very little for him as he started to decline quite a lot. I’d likely take that offer since it won’t likely be there in 6 months.

One RB to look at is Martin Aguirregabiria from Alaves. I think he is a guy who was buffed with recent patches. $13M release clause, not up to Odriozola’s level, but a lot better than the other basque RB options.
