GERNIKA (SPAIN) OCTOBER 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS The wheels came off a bit this month as we only won one of the games in the league and lost two of them. We are still well placed when it comes to the league and relegation this season is looking remote, which really was the goal of the season. I do hope we can recover in the coming months so that we can maintain what so far has been a promotion push.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) SEPTEMBER 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We are absolutely flying at the moment, we just keeping winning game after game and it is putting us in a great position to the point where we can probably start thinking away from a relegation battle although that is still very much a possibility if results take a turn for the worst. Bacharach continues to be the standout player, he is the top goalscorer from defensive midfield of all places and seems to be dragging us through the games at the moment.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) AUGUST 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We couldn't have dreamt of a better start to the season as we picked up four wins and a loss from the opening five games. That could be very important come the end of the season if things start to turn against us as the season wears on. A great start for the team and we find ourselves up in 3rd place at this early stage of the season. So far it has been two of the new signings in Hugo Bacharach and Edu Viana who have put in the best performances for us, averaging a 7.46 so far this season.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) END OF JUNE & JULY 2025 STADIUMS TRANSFERS LEAGUE PREDICTION RESULTS MANAGER THOUGHTS We came into the pre-season needing reinforcements, and we missed out on quite a few targets, but in the end we got in players that should improve the team. Whether they will improve it enough to survive in this division is another question. The bookmakers don't seem to think it will be enough considering we are ranked bottom of the league not counting the B sides for larger sides which don't get any odds. There are four relegation places so I think it will be very tough to keep us up this season but we will try. We signed a new one year deal, we did it pretty early on as there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of jobs available at the moment that would seem like progress to us. It might mean we are easier to sack, but it's just a risk that I would be willing to take. In terms of the friendlies they have gone very well so far, it seems like the team has adapted well with the new personnel and all we can hope for is that that is able to continue.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) END OF SEASON UPDATE MANAGER THOUGHTS A great season comes to an end and our reputation is growing. Whether we will be a Gernika for the start of next season is still very much a question without a conclusion, but if we get to the end of July and there isn't much movement in the manager market then we will likely sign a new deal at the club. The club is slowly growing with new fans being attracted to us so that is all positive.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) JUNE 2025 CONTACTS SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Well we managed to do it. We will be playing the Second Division next season. We were pretty brilliant in the promotion playoffs beating Cordoba handily with the first leg being the key an then beating Teruel over two legs to secure promotion. We were offered a new contract prior to the playoffs and there were two reasons why we didn't renew it, firstly I think the manager would think they were trying to secure our signature at a lower price, and secondly there has been some outside interest. Our contract does expire at the end of the year, so we will probably move onto a rolling contact for a while and see if there are better suitors out there and then if not before the new season starts we will sign a new deal with the club.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) MAY 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Our playoff appearance is assured. We have one more game in the league season to go and then we will be in the playoffs. It has been a great achievement for us considering there was an expectation that we would probably be relegated to do so well this season. We are assured of a 2nd place finish this season, whether that will mean promotion is still to be decided.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) APRIL 2025 SQUAD MANGER THOUGHTS With four games to go of the league season it is looking like a certainty that we will be around for the playoffs. It was a perfect month for us as we took three wins from three. Barca Atleti also confirmed themselves as champions this month, they deserve it as they absolutely blew the league away and lead us by 20 points.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) MARCH 2025 SQUAD JOB OFFERS MANAGER THOUGHTS A good month for us on the pitch as we managed to keep ourselves going in the playoff picture, we even managed to inflict the first defeat of the season on Barca Atleti which was a great achievement considering the kind of pace they have been setting this season. In terms of our career, we will not be the new manager of Gent as they passed up on us to give the job to Frederik Vanderbiest, so we will have to wait for our first move. Still it's nice to be linked with larger clubs like Gent only two seasons into our career.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) FEBRUARY 2025 SQUAD JOB OFFERS MANAGER THOUGHTS We continue to keep pace with the promotion hopefuls and it has been a brilliant season for us so far. We just need to take the final steps and assure ourselves a spot and then it just comes down to one off games. The big news was that our exploits have finally got us on the radar of a club that Juan would be willing to move to and that was not Spain but in Belgium. Gent a pretty big side in the country are interested. We have attended the interview and we will see if we end up being first choice one their process ends.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) JANUARY 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We continue to battle in the league and we continue to hang on to the final playoff spot and it continues to be very tight at the top of the table, Barca Atleti excepted from that as they are walking away with the league and remain unbeaten. In the cup we gave Valencia a very uncomfortable 120 minutes, and they only just got past us with an extra time goal which is a credit to the side.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) DECEMBER 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS A nice couple of wins to start the month in the league before we lost the final league game. It still keeps us in promotion playoff area of the league table which is great for us. We also managed to get through in the First Round of the Copa del Rey and we will face a massive test in the next round as we will host Valencia. In terms of the squad the best performers are probably Asier Parra and Angel Garcia at the moment for the side. Parra was pivotal in both our wins in the league and the win in the cup and won man of the match awards in those games.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) NOVEMBER 2024 SQUAD JOB OFFERS MANAGER THOUGHTS A really tough month for us as we managed to improve defensively but found it very tough to get goals at the other end. The results keep us in the promotion hunt for now and we are now 11 points clear of the relegation places so that is all positive. In other news we had an interview offer from Ibiza, but they are from the division below, and based on the personality of the manager there would be no upside in his mind to move to them.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) OCTOBER 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We had a much tougher month in October as we suffered our first defeats of the campaign. The win at the end of the month was much needed otherwise it was looking a little bleak. In fairness we are still very well placed at the moment as we sit fourth in the league and things are still looking very positive. In terms of the squad, we have picked up a few injuries to a few key players but it is manageable. Ortiz now has seven goals and Garcia leads the assist charts despite the injury he has picked up.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) SEPTEMBER 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS It has been a great month for us as we remain undefeated in the league. Barcalona Atleti will likely walk away with this league at least if the early going is any indication of things to come but I am very proud to see us in second place. We have had some very impressive wins beating Real Union away 6-0 and Tarazona 5-1 at home, it's great to see. So far when it comes to the team Jorge Ortiz who came in at the end of last season has settled well and has six goals in 8 appearances to his name. Angel Garcia has also been very impressive from the left back spot, getting five assists in 8 games, he looks to be the creative force behind the team at the moment. We are already doing fanstastically well. We aren't safe yet but another month like this and we can start to perhaps consider further targets for the season.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) AUGUST 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We opened up our league campaign with a very positive start getting four points from our opening two games. Perhaps more importantly we were really dominant against Nastic in the opener and then battle for victory in the second which shows the qualities of the team that I think will give us a chance of staying up. We have a very long road from here and some very tough tests to endure but so far it has been very positive.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) JULY 2024 LEAGUE PREDICTION MANAGER THOUGHTS We started our pre-season with our first friendlies of the season and we have done pretty well. the loss to Vizela was pretty expected since the Portuguese side outclass us substantially but we did get two wins to boost morale. In other news the league prediction table has come out and we are expected to finish 17th which would see us relegated since there are five relegation places in this league. We will need to overperform to survive at least comparative to what the bookies think will happen.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) END OF MAY & JUNE 2024 TRANSFERS YOUTH INTAKE MANAGER THOUGHTS We have brought in some reinforcements during the off-season, we have pretty much spent all the wage budget now so we have no real ability to pivot from here this season.

GERNIKA MAY 2024 & END OF SEASON REVIEW SUPPORTER PROFILE & TEAM OF THE YEAR STADIUM MOVE SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We managed to win the final game of the season to end the season on a high. In the end we won the league by eight points from Naxarra, which was a fantastic achievement as I said in the last post. We will be working in the off-season to hopefully build a side that will be able to survive in the division above, although I am sure that will not be an easy task. The club gained a few followers from the successful season rising to 20,800 followers in total. Next season we will be playing at the Nuevo Mazo in Haro, as our current stadium does not meet minimum standards.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) APRIL 2024 TRANSFERS SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Despite losing the opening game of the month, the win the next week was enough to confirm us as champions, when the chasing pack could not get a win midweek. It's been an amazing season for us, we were expected to finish mid-table but we have been up and around the top of the league since the very start. There is still one league game to go in May, but it doesn't much matter to us as we can prepare the promotion party. We started the work in the transfer market early. With the promotion guaranteed the board have given us money to spend and we went out and signed Jorge Ortiz, the journeyman has been all around Spain, orginally starting at Getafe before making a tour of the country over the years. He should add a fair bit in the advanced positions, and we have even been able to register him for the end of this season. As we approach the end of the season, the squad has done brilliantly to get us to where we have gotten. The liked of Arzalluz, Carlos and Agirrezabala have been instrumental this season in us getting promoted. We have also been working through the team to make sure that we get new contracts to some of the key players in the team.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) MARCH 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Despite a poor start to the month and a baffling loss to Sociedad C, where they had three shots and they scored three goals, we are looking like we may not be stopped this season as we open up a seven point gap at the top of the league table. We managed to reduce a bit the goals that were entering our net and we were not too bad in front of goal especially towards the end of the month. A good month next month should really put things beyond doubt. In terms of the squad, Arzalluz continues to find the net and has 20 goals for the season and has put right the XG underperformance he had from early in the season. Carlos who has not been highlighted from full back has been pretty excellent of recent and he has become the top assistmaker at the club. This month particularly Kepa Vietas as been pretty impressive for us as he won two man of the match award in the win over San Juan and Arenas. The final news is that we have now more or less been able to assemble the backroom staff especially in the problem areas of Scout and Director of Football. The people we have got are not top tier but at least we know have scouting proceeding which will be very helpful for the coming transfer windows as so far we have not brought anyone into the club at all and have just worked with the team we have.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) FEBRUARY 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS If you were a Gernika fan watching us in February you could be sure what the result of any league match would be as we participated in four 3-1 scorelines. However we only won two of them. The first game against Egues was pretty shocking from us as we just kept missing chances and that continues to be a problem we have from our game where we generate a lot of XG but put a fraction of the chances away. The positive is that it hasn't done us much damage at the top of the league as we maintain a five point lead. Really I have to say we are performing a lot better than most expected and that is great to see. We can start dreaming of a potential promotion but we do have to improve defensively and being more clinical would surely help us a lot.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) JANUARY 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS The defensive problems returned again this month, but we managed to generally avoid that it cost us many points like it has in previous months. We manage to get two wins and draw which keeps us at the summit of the table and five points clear of our rivals Barakaldo.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) DECEMBER 2023 SQUAD NEW CONTRACT MANAGER THOUGHTS A perfect month for us as we get three big wins, and two of them against teams near us at the top of league. Doing that meant that we finished Christmas and New Year on top of the league which is a great achievement, and we now need to kick on an maintain that if we can. Arzalluz and Agirrezabala continue to be standout players, the former now moving on to 15 goals for the season and he seems to be really in fine vein of goalscoring form at the moment. The other big news was that we signed a new two year deal. It is still very early in Salazar's career so that is a nice reward for the team having played so well. Obviously at this moment we are still an unknown so he would sign this deal if given the choice.

GERNIKA (SPAIN) NOVEMBER 2023 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Another topsy turvy month as we got a couple of wins, a draw and a loss. We continue to be the team with more chances in almost every game but we don't always put the chances away. However having said we are having a good season as we push up to 2nd place in what is becoming a very constrained top of the league. In the squad we now have a full squad to pick from as the injury crisis has passed. Arzalluz despite having missed a fair few chances is bagging a lot of goals for us as he moves onto 12 goals for the season in 14 starts. Also worth mentioning is the importance of Jon Agirrezabela from right back who is having a fine season and leads us for assists this season with six.
