2039 Youth Intake

At first glance, this intake is pretty terrible. But there are a lot of good personalities in there even if their ability isn't up to standard, so they'll be signed. Also, our 7D prospect is good enough to make the bench for the first team, even though he's not quite old enough yet.

We slip up at home against Istra, and things are tied again. Osijek have also thrown their hat in the ring to be a contender, and now it's looking even closer.

2039 Preseason

Everybody we have signed is Croatian, as we are bolstering our bench depth as well as satisfying our home grown quota. I like to think I'm boosting the quality of the national team as well, because most of these guys are current internationals. So far the only one who will be starting is our keeper from two seasons ago, brought back for slightly more than we got the first time we bought him. In terms of the departures, Figbe didn't grow as much as I'd hoped (he didn't grow at all) and Ribic wanted to leave, Cukaricki met his asking price which was double what we paid for, so off he goes.

January 2040

df8ebb8236da6e50900fdbd188a8aae5.png

We've had quite a busy January when it comes to selling players, as Sosa, Wanner and Elogo all leave having been pushed out of the side. Sosa leaves as the most capped Croatia Zmijavci player at 192, but we leave with 2m profit. Wanner, who we signed for free back in 2035, made 130 appearances and we make everything off him in profit, while Elogo made 182 appearances in his 6.5 seasons here, and we only bought him for 43.5k!

Two players in my matchday squad also leave, but we get both of them back on loan for the rest of the season. Jelic-Balta is off to City after only half a season with us but we sell him for basically double what we got him for. Meanwhile, the big sale is Pericic to Bayern for a massive 30m. We bought him for 16.5m from Dinamo, and now he's already gone after 1.5 seasons. But the money we've made from this is going to strengthen the squad massively next season.

EURO 2040 Preview

Squad

de3475014beaae9796e87d8baca93fd1.png

It's quite a strong squad, dominated by Croatia Zmijvaci players, and a pretty young squad with an average age of 26. It should come as no shock that the best producer of talent for the national team is Dinamo Zagreb, with nearly half of the squad coming from there.

Ideal XI

Our Best XI is pretty strong, but there are some glaring weaknesses, namely our fullbacks and Segundo Volante.

2040 Preseason

7483b697d3fe640e9893c5dd5606f432.png

I've gone back to the tried and tested formula of "if they have the attributes to play a position, they'll be coerced into playing that position". This is the case with the Colombian Sotelo, a CM that will be taught how to play on the left. I will only be doing that for starting players - bench players probably won't get enough playing time to learn quickly enough.

An excellent preseason, including a win over Bayern! I don't think it was their strongest side, but still.

Euro 2040

306ed353689d2cb6b67f7c14eb404738.png

We got through our friendlies quite well, and then Portugal showed why they were defending champions with a 2-0 win. I had very low expectations against Italy, and we more than exceeded them, putting 2 past them to leave our final game against Romania as the decider for our qualification. We scraped past them, getting the 2 win we needed to progress automatically.

31641fb22ba9554ef318c44422b6ff69.png
4760edbb67334d0dd69eff1b3d9d0baa.png

The only real shock here was co-host Belgium getting knocked out in the groups stage. Not ideal.

Second Round

c5df173ec6626ff024445226f6a4b6b0.png

It was a tough tournament for the French, as the defending finalists lose to the Netherlands in the Second Round after extra time, the exact same way they lost in the 2032 edition. The French have been knocked out by the winners in the last two occasions - is this a sign for the 2032 champions the Dutch? Elsewhere, Sweden triumphed in the Scandinavian derby, Turkey held their nerve over Scotland making it two non-traditional superpowers in the quarters. England flogged Wales but needed extra time for that, we beat Norway in a fairly comfortable 1-0 win, Germany and Portugal had straightforward wins and Spain knocked Italy out in another early clash of the titans.

Quarter Finals

4c3557773c37cc9325f514dae5c05c83.png

Croatia has never progressed beyond the quarter finals of the Euro, so by getting this far we equalled the nation's best ever finish. We held Germany for 90 minutes, but a goal from 37 year old Jamal Musiala sent us home after a great performance. Turkey caused the upset of the tournament, knocking out the Netherlands, Sweden couldn't do the same against England, and Spain knocked out defending champions Portugal.

Semi Finals

a5272f4134eace490ffa55570fa5ce8e.png

The Turkish giant killing run continues, defeating 2028 champions Germany to reach their first ever final, and it still isn't coming home as Spain win their semi to set up an interesting final.

Final

a525be4d16702458d43fe1108e2dc727.png

In a fairly even game, it was Spain who triumphed, lifting their 4th European title and their first in 28 years!

Just binged the entire thread, great work. I have a feeling you'll be staying at Croatia for a while, the new CL format is brutal

Thanks! Yeah I think all this new format does is help the rich get richer, we just need a lucky draw to avoid some big teams. It's annoying that we can't even drop doen to the Europa anymore, it's really holding clubs that are always going to qualify for the CL but not progress.

de73f9da393e1c9a87bb5dda7bfed24a.png

These fixtures an an absolute joke. City (4x CL finalists and 8x EPL champs since the save began), Barcelona (2x CL winners, 2x CL runners up and 2x La Liga champs), Southampton (2033 CL winner, 2x EPL champs) and Real Madrid (5x CL winners, 14x La Liga champs)? Come on. We might be able to get results against the other teams, but our hopes of progression will be over before they begin if we don't beat Lazio in our opener.

Hadadi made noises because I didn't bring in any Argentinians. He declined to notice the fact that we already have 2 Argentinians that could have helped him settle. On top of those two we also have two other guys that are native Spanish speakers. But whatever, Hansa Rostock met his release clause, giving us a 14M return after less than 6 months.

The best part about all this?

Hansa Rostock has a grand total of..... zero Argentinians :seagull: yet another thing for SI to fix in the broken dynamics and promises system.

We weren't able to replace Hadadi with an immediate starter, but we bring in Croatian NT fringe member Andrijano Slogar from Dinamo for decent money. He's still young, and has plenty of chances to fulfil his potential.

We get off to a shaky start in our return to competitive fixtures, made even more depressing knowing that Getting beaten 4-0 or 3-0 by Real Madrid would have seen us make the playoffs on goal difference. But I can't get too frustrated, this is only my 8th season in the top flight, and I need to keep reminding myself that we haven't peaked in Croatia yet.

From an unloseable position, we found a way to lose and lose badly. In short, we choked. So badly in fact, that we aren't even in the Champions League next season. I guess that means we're almost obligated to have a strong run in the Europa League, or else. Heavy recruitment coming up I think.

2041 Preseason

We lose a great player, underrated by the game but virtually perfect for us as a DM, the 213 game veteran Agustin Ramirez. He's only 30, but he's gone home to Argentina to play for a non-league team. Pretty unceremonious exit, but he will be missed. Replacing him at DM is Inter's Mamadou Thiaw, a natural CB who has the attributes to play DM and will be retrained there. His purchase smashes the previous club record of 16.5m, so there's plenty of expectation there. Also leaving is the Colombian Thiago Sotelo, who did nothing but complain in the one season he was here because I didn't bring in any Colombians, despite the fact that I had Colombians and Spanish speakers here, the same deal as Hadadi in the Jan transfer window.

An okay preseason, and predicted 3rd. I expect nothing less than challenging for the title, as well as a deep run in the Europa Conference League. We're good enough to be up there, we just need to show it on the field.
