Manager level of discipline and player performances

As mentioned in the title, is there a link between the two ?

On my Man Utd save, I had 13 level of discipline and understandably, performances should be very good regardless so it was hard to gauge the effects.

On my Portsmouth save, I had maxed level of discipline at 20 and performances were very inconsistent in the first half of the season. Haven't gone into the second season yet so can't make any conclusions.

But does anyone know whether there's a link between the two ? Or does it not matter ?

Note: I've heard that high level of discipline means that there are less players coming to you to ask for more game time and I can safely say this is FALSE. Even with 20 level of discipline, players still come to me constantly asking to play more games.
