FM15 English Lower Leagues Level 24 Database (All players grey)

I've just decided to scrap my Lazio save and have started a complete lower league manager giant killer story. However all of my players are greyed out so how does this work?

I'm using that mod and I'm thinking on youth days I'll get proper players on contracts or do I just have to slug through these type of players until I make it to further?

When you started the game did you tick the box to generate players for playable teams?

I can't remember exactly what the wording on the option is, but if you select it then every single playable team in the game will have a squad of proper players, but if you didn't then only the original database will be present. So in effect if you didn't tick it then because the clubs at the level you're at have no players in the database, the game will only populate them with grey players rather than proper players.
