  • Constantly getting "Steam Cloud Sync" error on PC

Been playing FM23 on both my Desktop PC and Steam Deck and using the Steam Cloud Saves to share game progress between the two devices. However since Christmas, the PC keeps giving me Steam Cloud Error and is unable to Sync correctly. I've gone into the folder found at C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2023\cloud\games and can see my saves are there, however they just are not being uploaded to the cloud.

If I switch to my Steam Deck and load a save, play for a few moments and then save, that does get syncronised  with the Cloud fine. Same as if I create a new save file on the Steam Deck, that gets uploaded to the cloud fine. On PC however if I try to create a new save file or save a game under a new name it fails and tells me I have no free space left in the cloud and to delete some files. Yet when I check on the Steam Deck it shows I have 956mb of free space.

For Football Manager 23 just 1 File is shown on that link 182.96MB in size.

In the Cloud Folder on my PC I'm seeing 4 files

On my Steam Deck I'm seeing 7 Files.

Also as of this morning, the Steam Deck is now also giving me the "Steam Cloud Error" everytime it tries to sync, so now both Steam Deck and PC are not working with Cloud Saves.

Hello, it's possible this could be a steam deck issue. For now could you try the following:

    - On both (PC & Steam Deck) turn 'Enable Steam Cloud' off then back on, start the game afterwards.
    - Any custom content enabled for FM; like skins etc. Please uninstall on both systems.
    - Make sure the latest update for Steam is installed:
To do so, open up Steam (not the webbrowser version) and click on 'Steam' at the top left.
Choose 'Check For Steam Client Updates...' and see if you have the latest version installed.
If not a window will pop up and you have to restart 'Steam'.
    - Make sure you are not participating in any Steam beta; shown at the first settings screen in Steam.

Done everything on my PC, Steam is up to date, I'm not in any betas and the PC client will still not sync with the cloud.

The Steam Deck is however working fine and syncing the saves fine which I can see online fine in a web browser.

Both PC and Steam Deck are using the same network and internet connection so it can't be a connectivity issue if one can sync fine and the other not.

I was wondering if perhaps it has something to do with the file size, as the save file the PC is trying to sync or wants to sync is 436,279KB in size, where as the files on my Steam Deck that are being syncronised correctly are at maximum only 186,446KB

Additional things to try would be:

Verify the integrity of your game files - https://support.sega.com/hc/en-gb/articles/9997753543185

Check to see if any anti-virus program and/or firewalls are configured to allow FM and Steam to fully access the internet. We’ve seen occasions in the past where this has been blocked without informing the end user.

Try repairing your Steam library folder:

To do so, open ‘Steam’ -> ‘Settings’ -> ‘Download’ -> ‘Steam Library Folders’. Make sure your game is selected via the checkbox, then click the more icon (three horizontal dots) and select ‘Repair Folder’.

If you find nothing above helps, please submit a support ticket using the link below and our team will try to help.

Hey there, have you found any fix at this point?

I am having similar problems and it's been driving me crazy. Uploading FM23 saves to Steam Cloud via Steam Deck has been extremely unreliable. It usually worked after re-trying over and over again.

At first I blamed Steam Deck for this, but I haven't experience the same issues in any other games so far.

And yes, of course I've gone through all the usual tips you find everywhere.
    - Restarting Steam Deck
    - Updating Steam Deck to latest version (non beta)
    - Disabling & Enabling Steam Cloud
    - Verifying integrity of game files
    - Repairing library folder

One part of the problem seems to have been the limited space available on Steam Cloud. Turns out I have only have about 1GB of Steam Cloud storage available which really isn't enough. Deleting some older files seems to have fixed it at first, but only temporarily if at all. After 8 seasons, the file size for a single save file is over 200MB, so I can barely fit one 3 File Rolling Auto Save (which is the second "smallest" setting) anymore - those 2 file plus the "last save overwrite backup.fm" already make up more then 800MB. And even after changing to "Single File" - which I'm not fully comfortable with - it's still not working.

I'm really running out of options and patience, and unfortunately the tips provided here aren't very helpful either (mostly more of the same). The only thing I haven't tried is "Any custom content enabled for FM; like skins etc. Please uninstall on both systems." - that is a no go for me, especially when there' no guarantee that it fixes anything.

Anyways, the problem is probably mostly on Steam's side here. Still wanted to post here, since the problem is FM specific for me. And that limit of 1GB cloud space absolutely has to be increased, refardless of the sync problems. I'm sure that is something you can affect?

    Best regards

If you are still having this problem or get it in the future a quick fix I found is go to steam settings the click "cloud" turn off cloud synchronizing. Then go to download and "clear download cache" or something like that this will log you out of steam but just log back in and this fixed the problem for me.

hi is there any fix for this yet, i was getting it on fm23 with unable to sync with cloud but it didnt really bother me to start with but it has started bothering me now as i have bought a steam deck now also and i want to continue my save game when out and about and i have also just went and bought the new fm24 to play and again the game is unable to sync with cloud it has been saved under tab cloud but doesnt seem to sync so again i cannot continue my save out and about due to this unable to sync error on both fm23 and fm24. i have tried the verify files and repair steam library and every work around i have seen on internet but still nothing, what i did notice is when i uncheck the sync with cloud in game properties on steam and load game up and try re-save it, it says i have not enough cloud storage to save said file. i have also tried the clear download cache option but still not working.

Hello. I keep getting this error as well. I didn't paid attention to it as I could play the game, as my files seem to be save "in the cloud" locally on my hdd. But when hdd become unaccesible and installed Steam on another machine I noticed that there were no saves there, in the 'real' online cloud on Steam. Oh, after writing this I noticed that the thread is for FM23 and my issue is for FM24 - however, as seen below no FM23 saves in my cloud either.

    Thanks
