  • Delayed 2021 MLS Cup Final - only allows 12 players to be registered for final

    Hi there,

    The 2021 Club World Cup pushed the date of the 2021 MLS Cup Final (between Inter Miami and Portland Timbers) beyond the Expansion Draft date (for Charlotte FC's league entry). This is because Portland played in that CWC competition, having won CONCACAF Champions League.  The implication is that the squad rules for protecting the 12 players (as part of Charlotte's expansion draft) means only 12 players can be selected for the final.

    Annoyingly, there was around 5-6 days gap between Portland finishing the MLS playoffs and jetting off to the CWC...so it could have been arranged pre-CWC. (not after).

    Thank you for raising this, we're looking to make changes to this soon now that the 2021 CWC dates were confirmed (they weren't at game release).
