playing two trequnista up top

Recommended Posts

It really depends on a ton of things. A treq is a very mobile player, operating in both the forward strata and the AM strata. With the right PPMs (and attributes to back those PPMs up, of course), they can be very dangerous; two of them operating by dropping back into the AM strata during the attacking phase (probably in a kind of pivot) with a shadow striker bombing into space could be problematic for a defence to handle. The issue arises from marking and determining who picks up which player - if one treq drops deep, a defender may follow him, opening space for the SS to run into. Someone then has to pick him up, and that leaves the other treq potentially open - or a wide player (like an IF) who can cut in.

The best example of a player extremely dangerous as a treq is Leo Messi, though I've only ever used him as a lone one personally.

It requires intelligent players, though, because you're banking on very clever movement disrupting marking. It's either going to be devastating or utterly pointless.

The big danger is that treqs do not really contribute to defence, at all, so having two players not defending probably means one of your wide players has to be more defensive than usual to make up the numbers in the defensive phase.

The treq will contribute defensively if:

1. Someone with the ball comes close enough to him

2. He has has defensive attributes like work rate

3. You set him to man mark

These three scenarios give you enough defensive options with work with a Treq so that he isn't 100% useless defensively. However, you don't want him too involved defensively anyway. He wants to stay away from the other team so that when you win the ball back, you can get the ball to him asap.
