if i loan a player out he wont get his HG status?

i was just wondering if the player can be loaned out, or has to physically be at the club for 3 years before his 21st birthday?

Any time a player spends loaned out won't count towards his club homegrown status, it will however count towards his nation homegrown status if loaned to a side in the country as your team.

Once you have loaned a player out the Homegrown view on the Squad Screen should update to reflect the new date a player is due to become homegrown if he can still become homegrown.

For example player is 18 and has one day left to become homegrown you loan him to a side in the same country for 365 days and he will become nation homegrown the next day but he won't become club homegrown until the day after he returns from onloan. (Though if you loan out a player for three years (doesn't have to be in one go) to the same team before 21 he will become homegrown for them.)
