Lack of motivation

Why are "quite a few of my players" struggling to motivate themselves whilst my world class player, with an influence of 16 and a determination of 15, is captain? He's captained a lot of matches with no problems before this.

I'm now completely baffled at player attitudes in this version of FM. Not much of it makes sense anymore with things like what I mentioned above, players losing confidence at half time to then come out in the second half and be playing with confidence and letting players know that they have been amazing only to end up upsetting them because they don't feel the praise is justified.

I don't know whats changed with player attitudes, or why it's been changed but I do know that it doesn't work very well anymore. Some of the things I'm seeing are just daft.
