Player mentality vs Match strategy

Can anyone explain the difference between the two above features and are they interlinked.

For example you could set your players mentality to be 15 -20 which on FM2009 was more attacking, but have a defensive match strategy, I dont understand how this relates.

Match strategy is a general term, generally you'll have less forward runs and lower mentalities. It's pretty defunct though as you can override things.

Thats exactly what I thought, I set up my team for a standard strategy but my assistant told me ' there was a gap inbetween midfield and attack' which meant on FM2009 that the mentalities on the players instructions needed adjusting to make the comment disapear
