CHARLTON ATHLETIC edited in the Create a Club Mode, same team just added the red bull logo & edited team name to Red Bull Charlton.
 

Red Bull have today officially taken control of 
League 1 club Charlton Athletic.

The Red Bull Group have been in summer long 
discussions with the club, Charlton are now
the 5th team owned by the Red Bull group. 
Russell Slade had been set to take charge of the 
club but the new owners have decided to go in
a different direction with ex player Tom Hosking
set to be named the clubs new manager shortly.
A press conference is expected this week for Hosking

The club will now be known as Red Bull Charlton.
Red Bull first bought a football club in 2005, 
taking over SV Salzburg in their home nation 
and rebranding them Red Bull Salzburg.

The company then bought the New York MetroStars 
the following year and rebranded them the New York 
Red Bulls, eventually signing Thierry Henry in 2010.

In 2007, Red Bull took over German fifth division side 
SSV Markranstadt and renamed them Red Bull Leipzig, 
who were promoted to the Bundesliga last season.






Tom Hosking has today been named as RB Charlton's
new manager after a brief role with the U18 Team.

Hosking enjoyed a distinguished career but retired
early due to various injury issues he had suffered.
He came through Charlton's academy before making his 
Premier League debut in October 2006 as a 15 year old
coming off the bench away at Fulham, he cemented his 
place in the team after December and played in 28 games
during the campaign which saw Charlton relegated. 

The then 16 year old spent the 1st half of 07/08 season
on loan after completing a move to Man Utd, he joined up
with Sir Alex Ferguson's team in January and became a key man
on the way to the club securing the European Cup & Premier 
league title, scoring important goals in many games. 
In 2009 he made his England debut as a 17 year old and scored
in the victory in Belarus, making 26 caps and scoring 3 times
with his other goals coming against Mexico & Germany.

The defender then joined Barcelona for 22 million euros at the 
start of the 2011 season winning another Champions League trophy 
in his maiden season, the 2011/12 season is when injuries started 
to halt appearances and Hosking left Barca at the end of that season
stating his body could no longer cope with the physical demands.

He re-joined Charlton in January 2013 who were in The Championship
at the time, he only managed a hand full of appearances before 
retiring at the end of that season at only 22 years of age.

Hosking spent the next 2 seasons learning various coaching methods 
working at many clubs including Man Utd, Dortmund, Barelona & Ajax.
He rejoined Charlton last season as a youth coach before taking charge 
of the U18 team until the end of last season before being approached
for the 1st team managers job at Charlton under the new regime.

Roland Duchâtelet the clubs Chairman who has been kept in place by Red Bull
said this morning 'The club is now looking to build for the future under the 
Red Bull ownership & Tom has a history with the club & a known pedigree in the
game that we look forward to seeing as our new manager, his age is irrelevant 
after you look what he did as a player and since his retirement as a player'

GK

DECLAN RUDD- On loan GK will be a solid no.1 also available EOS for free.


DILLON PHILLIPS- Not a great back up but young, will do for now.

CHRIS SOLLY- Captain & 1st choice RB, may sell if we get a good bid though.


KEVIN FOLEY- Contract is up in January but a good back up option til then. 


MORGAN FOX- Quality LB only 22 so I expect a few bids come January.


ADAM CHICKSEN- Only 24 but doesn't look anything but a back up, may loan out.


PATRICK BAUER- My best CB & best in the league by far but injured for most of Pre-Season.


EZRI KONSA- A top prospect, will retrain as a CM & try to play him as often as possible.


JASON PEARCE- Will start as first choice CB with Bauer injured, good player for this league. 


HARRY LENNON- Another young CB, May start but is injured for most of Pre-Season also. 


JORGE TEIXEIRA- There is real quality at CB here, out for 3 months but stats wise is quality.


ROGER JOHNSON- With Pre-Season injuries he will play but rather play Konsa & Lennon.


MF 

FREDRIK ULVESTAD- On loan from Burnley & key player, can also play a few roles in midfield. 


ANDREW CROFTS- Experienced player & versatile but need more options.


JOHNNIE JACKSON- More experience and more versatility in roles, has good ball quality.


EL HADJI BA- Decent back up option as a holding midfielder, though only 23. 


AHMED KASHI- Injured for 6-8 months so all depends how he gets on when he returns. 


ADEMOLA LOOKMAN- My best player at 18 & will be tough to keep beyond this season.


LEE HOLMES- Shame Lookman is on the left as Homes has quality, good rotation option.


JORDAN BOTAKA- On loan Right winger form Leeds, adds pace & width on the right.


AT

NICKY AJOSE- Will start most games up top, really good stats as a poacher.


LEE NOVAK- Back up to Ajose but play also play on the right wing.


JOSH MAGENNIS- Bit of a unit up top who again will also play on the right when needed.


K AHEARNE-GRANT- Youngster has good potential so may get a chance in the team.

TRANSFER SUMMARY

Transfers Out- Only 1 permanent departure, El Hadji Ba going to Rennes for 200k, Allowed me money for wages for other players I wanted to bring in. 

Transfers In- We needed a bit more cover and depth in the squad, selling Ba gave us some much needed funds to put in to the wage budget, I signed players who would help the team straight away or would in the future.

DIEGO POYET- FREE- Ex Charlton wonderkid, should of never left but will no doubt be a key player in CM.

 

KRISTOF TONNESEN- 28K- Norwegian LB, A go to signing for me especially due to the cheap price.

 

GEDION ZELALEM- LOAN- Arsenal player’s contract expires in July so hoping to get on a free EOS.

 

GEORGE SAVILLE- LOAN- Wolves CM also will be free in July so will sign depending on his performances.

 

CORNELIUS BENCSIK- 9K- Needed more depth wide and for 9k is a bargain for his potential.

 

CONOR MCALENY- LOAN- Everton winger who will re train to the RW, contract also up in summer.

 

HARLEY BLACK- FREE- Not quite there, may play but may need a loan move to reach potential.

 

YAROUBA CISSAKO- FREE- Decent RB with potential, will be a backup but again may play here & there.

 

VALMIR BERISHA- FREE- Good young striker, May play in cups but may need a loan move in January.

 

CAMPBELL-YOUNG- FREE- Good young defender, needs a loan to reach potential. (LOANED- Plymouth)

 

ZAKARIA FADOUCH- FREE- A potentially good AM/CM, may loan out til Jan. (LOANED- Notts County)

 

ALEX FINNEY- FREE- Has some good attributes, a loan move is needed though. (LOANED- Notts County)

 

TOM GAMBLEN- FREE- Rough diamond but could have potential but needs games. (LOANED- Gateshead)

 

JEREMY MAWATU- FREE- Young winger will play in the U23’s, again has some good potential attributes.

 

NANA OWUSU- FREE- Raw & versatile and can develop well but again needs games. (LOANED- Tranmere)

 

NIC PAGLIARINI- FREE- Doesn’t look much but re-trained a CM could be decent. (LOANED- Exeter)

 

ALBERTO RUBIO- FREE- Very similar as the above, needs a loan move. (LOANED- Newport)

 

IBRAHIMA SY- FREE- Good GK, will look to loan out and look at him next year. (LOANED- Colchester)

 

JIMMY TCHAEOULE-FREE- Has some good basic attributes for a CM. will see how he develops.

 

TONY TROPEANO- FREE- Good young GK, Will stay in the U23’s & see how he develops.

GEORGES TSILA- FREE- Has decent stats for a RB/WB will play in the U23’s and look again in January.

AUGUST FIXTURES


     
  

An undefeated start to the season with only 1 goal being conceded, A scrappy win against Burnley in the EFL Cup which rewards us with an away trip to Stoke in the next round. 
Fred Ulvestad started the season brilliantly but picked up an injury for 5 weeks so hasn't played since the Northampton game, We've had a few little injuries here & there so haven't yet got a consistent side out but still a great start.

SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER


Nicky Ajose continued his fine start to the season, 3 wins to start the month.

EFL CUP 3RD ROUND

An unfortunate exit from the EFL Cup, Stoke played their best team and were too good for us.
 

We continued the month with some good results, with a tight win in the CheckaTrade Trophy against Crawley although unfortunately not long after scoring int he game Lee Novak broke his leg!


Apart from an unfortunate loss against Gillingham, after Ajose picked up an injury youngster Ahearne-Grant scored a brace on his first start of the season, The FA Cup 1st Round is my next fixture.

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER

FA CUP 1st Round

A pretty routine yet hard fought victory in the FA Cup against Luton we will play Braintree or Plymouth in the next round, likely to be League 2 Plymouth. 
 

CheckaTrade Trophy


We qualified fairly easily through the group with 3 wins out of 3, I've taken the competition pretty seriously as its another Trophy and I hope to win it to be honest and have played 1st choice team in all games when I can, We will play fellow League 1 team Oxford in the Southern Section 2nd Round.

November was an undefeated month, Ahearne-Grant is still scoring whenever called upon, The whole squad are all becoming very dependable and have no qualms about chopping and changing if needs be as nobody has let me down so far. 
 

FA CUP 2ND ROUND

A routine win away at Plymouth for the team, we have been rewarded with an away fixture against West Ham at The Olympic Stadium in the 3rd Round.

We will play away at Orient in the 3rd round after a solid 3-0 victory against Oxford.

Another undefeated month, we are flying 12 points clear at the top of the table with January only around the corner.

JANUARY TRANSFER STRATEGY 



Red Bull Charlton directors and manager Tom Hosking have today
outlined the clubs transfer strategy for the January window. 
In the BBC exclusive the club have said they are not actively 
looking to sell any players and would only sign players who 
can help the club in the future not just this season. 
The club have loan players who's contracts expire in the 
summer and are hoping to secure those players on frees or
buy the players permantely, George Saville, Conor McAleny,
Gedion Zelalem & Declan Rudd all will be available for free
in the summer if they are not offered a new contract.

The club are looking for younger players ideally who fit the 
Red Bull business model and have a degree of sell on value,
They are not going to pursue any transfers of players who
they believe are only for this season, they are looking for 
players who can play Championship & Premiership football in
the future or could be sold on for a sizeable profit. 

The club have said they hope to keep hold of key assets but 
ultimately cannot reject a bid too good to refuse, Derby & 
several German teams are interested in Patrick Bauer who has 
been the clubs standout performer this year, Wonderkid Ademola
Lookman has been linked with moves to several Premier League 
clubs, Ezri Konsa still only breaking into the team is another 
linked with several top flight teams but as the club said they 
will not sell unless any bids are able to strengthen the team
significantly going forward and that any fees brought in if 
any at all this January will be saved for next season as the club
believe no matter who they lose if any at all they are in a strong 
league position and have a good quality squad available.

TRANSFERS OUT

3 players released as they were not playing and wouldn't in the future.
KEVIN FOLEY- Had Solly & Cissako at RB, looking for more cover going forward also.
ROGER JOHNSON- Only played 1 game I think, Konsa & Lennon were better options.
ADAM CHICKSEN- Loaned out but was poor and wont play going forward so released.


These 3 deals were good money I couldn't turn down, all with no real future apart from Fox. 
AHMED KASHI-900K- Was injured until December and was offered 900k, It will help the budget.
JORGE TEIXEIRA-500K- Injured too often, could of been handy player but worth selling before he loses value. 
MORGAN FOX- 2MIL- Wasn't looking to sell as he played okay but too good to turn down.

LOANS OUT- 
D PHILLIPS-Colchester- Gk needed 1st team football.
IB SY-Shrewsbury- Did well at Colchester, will now play in League 1.
HARLEY BLACK-Notts County- Only played a couple of games so needs 1st team football.
VALMIR BERISHA-Portsmouth- Has good stats but again needs games & goals.
ZAKARIA FDAOUCH-Bolton- Played well in League 2 and Bolton are struggling at the bottom of League 1.
YAROUBA CISSAKO-St.Johnstone- Again needed games after being bit part, looking to bring in more RB cover also.
CORNELIUS BENCSIK-Hamilton- Only played here & there, looking to bring players in so he needs game time. 

TRANSFERS IN
After raising a bit of cash I wasn't looking to blow it all but strengthen where I could but save as much for next years budget, I needed a couple of players but mainly just brought in cheap players with potential.


OVIE EJARIA-350K- Good potential & give Midfield options, will retrain as a winger also, a bargain fee also. 


TONY GALLACHER-120K- LB with potential and a good fee, loaned back to Falkirk as part of the deal.


JACK STEPHENS-LOAN- Needed CB/RB cover and could fit in nicely, scouts say he's available for 900k so may look at him on a permanent in the summer if he performs well, can cover Bauer and Solly.


JACK ROBINSON-600K- Was listed at QPR and after selling Fox I needed a replacement, Robinson if kept fit has Premier League potential and an upgrade on fox for a fraction of the cost.


MITCHELL BEANEY-180K- The young GK was available for cheap and will play here & there until the EOS, also needed cover with 2 GK's going out on loan.


TYRIAS BROWNING-450K- Stephens was flourishing at RB but transfer listed Browning was too good to turn down, has versatility like Stephens as well as good potential.


DEADLINE DAY- CHARLTON REJECT BAUER BID

I rejected the awful offer from Derby 2.3 Mil is an awful bid considering Bauer's form, He was uppset it was rejected and too be fair I had cover at CB with Pearce, Lennon, Stephens, Konsa & Browning but after a chat I said the offer wasn't good enough and how key tot he team he was, I dont know if he will like any bids rejected in the summer, I will offer him a new contract but will take 4 mil in the summer and rebuild with those funds.

SEASON UPDATE- 2 FEB 2017


13/16 Points clear of MK dons at the top of the league, Bauer has been standout performer int he league, Early season promotion favourites Bolton are surprisingly 24th in the league! Hope they go down and I will poach Josh Vela & Zack Clough on the cheap, though its tight down there so they will probably stay up.
