Entry-level contracts don't slide

Recommended Posts

It seems like if a player is signed to an ELC and then sent back to juniors, the game slides their contract like it should in real life. However, the ELC slide also applies to players signed to a contract that have played out their season in the AHL. For example, if a player plays 9 NHL games and then spends the rest of their season in the minor league affiliate (and they are 18 or 19), the contract should still slide. The game does not have this feature, which makes player development unrealistic.

Here is a link that describes the slide: http://www.colliganhockey.com/nhl-cba-entry-level-contracts-slide/

And another description from here: http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/6/14/4414710/getting-to-know-the-cba-episode-2-the-draft

"For 18 and 19-year old players, if the club doesn't use the player for 10 NHL games in a season where he's under an entry-level contract, his contract "slides" for one year. This extends the entry-level contract for one year under the exact same terms, unless both the club and player both agree to not make it slide (and why in the world would a club do that?) This is why you'll semi-regularly see a club start a highly-touted rookie for the first 9 games of a season before returning him to his junior club."

Yes, I've picked up this issue in my own tests as well and will have a fix for it in the coming updates. The feature for sliding contracts is in the game but there is an issue where in some cases it doesn't slide the contract as it should. It only affects players who have already turned 20 at the end of the season when the contract slide is checked.
