Left / Right sweeper gone?

Why did those two positions disappear? I know most people never use them, but where very helpful in making lines of 3 work. "Wing sweepers" acted as a midpoint between center backs and full backs allowing to the team to be wide, while keeping a recognizable line.

For example in a formation I made for FM12:

Looks 3-3-4, but on the field is more like a 3-4-3, with the right striker acting as a trequartista.

And you have the "wing sweepers" being quite wide, but without getting to attacking positions like FB would do.

It's a shame they are gone.
