You on the other hand didn't really need to have any input.

Actually, I’ve posted several times in this topic offering constructive feedback, plus also took part in the BETA and reported bugs in the forum. That’s my main point - SI are a small team. We should help them make the game better, they’ve provided us a platform for this.

I play matches with highlights of great chances, so it would be useful if the skip replay button was much closer to the top right corner (where the pause button is). This is because this pause button is where I keep the pointer during a match.

    Thanks

You can just use space bar instead of keeping your mouse pointed to pause a game.

Why are players so bad at penalties? Missed my last three, I don't expect to score penalties now. It's strange considering the high percentage of penalty goals that are scored. The odd miss or here fine but it seems like you're more likely to miss a penalty than actually score. In some throwaway saves I had one game where there were 3 penalties and they were all missed?

As I speak - been awarded another penalty which is missed again by a good technical player (Giuseppe Rossi, 16 at penalties). I just don't understand?

The one where the commentary goes "... almost got lucky with that" or "... certainly didn't mean that!"?

Definitely seems to be a common issue, seen loads of mentions of it on here. For me personally I see them almost literally two or three times every single match even just watching "key" highlights  (sometimes they get tipped over the bar as well as the near post ones). It's by far my biggest issue with the match engine currently, drives me nuts when you get a long build-up in the highlight, wondering where it is going... oh it's another mishit cross.

Crossing has been severely nerfed, as it was too easy in 17. But they’ve gone over cautious - no way those lucky crosses should be happening 3/4 times a game, maximum once or twice every two games imo, that seems more realistic.

The game is not harder than it should be, like any edition of the game its about getting a sound tactical set up and then maintaining high morale.

I'm finding the beta considerably easier than FM17 partly because of the absence of AI super power comebacks that were prevalent on FM17.

If pushed, i'd say the beta is a bit too easy although this is based on a small sample, 1 team, 1 and a bit seasons.

I’m curious - what tactics do you use? What team are you? What is the overall philosophy you try to go for?

You’re the first person I’ve seen on here call the game “too easy”.

  7. The 4 biggest problem in the ME are:

    1. Crossing is terrible. Defensively they’ve improved how they’re reacted to but now we have the problem of general crosses just not being good enough. Too many times do players cross the ball “luckily” and that just doesn’t happen in football - not if a player gets into space where they can carefully pick out a cross.

    2. Counter attacking seems to be very odd - you could have a 4 vs 2 or 3 vs 1 situation that just requires a switch of play from the player on the ball to exploit that numerical advantage but it doesn’t happen. Even the most talented players often make the wrong decisions and just try to continue to solo the attack and it ends up with long shots.

    3. Which brings me onto long shots. I feel like players are still too inclined in general to take a long shot when they have team mates in front of them whom they could pass to who would then be in a better position.

    4. Offsides are strange on the game. An offside trap is usually devised to compensate for a high line but even low blocks seem to be able to excecute it perfectly - we’re seeing way too many basic overlaps and through ball situations turn into offsides in my opinion.

  8. Interesting. I'm currently doing a Wolves save and wanted to create a possession based side and have achieved that quite successfully - however I am using a very fluid team shape (mainly because I want to "swarm the ball" and win it back instantly - not have too much spaces, keeping it a bit more compact). After about 40 games I am averaging around 62% of possession - which is incredible, never achieved anything like it in FM.

I have my team set up as a 4-2-3-1, with 3 playmakers (DLP(D), AP(S), AP(A)) in the middle and inside forwards (both on support). I have 4 players on attacking duty, 3 on support, and 3 defending. What really makes the tactic work is attacking fullbacks. So I have set my FBs on attack - and they sort of negate the compactness of very fluid and help me stretch teams out. I have currently scored the most goals in the league and also conceded the least, so it seems to be working. The slightest problem seems to be that my players aren't clinical enough - we seem to create 3-4 clear cut chances, maybe 4-5 half chances on top of that, and we'll score 1 or 2 of those, and we usually face the repercussions of that by conceding late on. Something I'm still working on. I have created 90 clear cut chances, and it seems we are converting around 2/3 of that, so that's something we need to work on. Not sure where I can find how many half chances are created. I think the issue is that my team is very young so they're still working on their decision making and other mental skills which would really allow them to be a lot more clinical. I'll give the tactic a spin with a more talented team soon.

    Here's how I've set up:

    TM: Counter

    TS: Very Fluid

    GK (D)

    FB (A)

    CB (D)

    CB (D)

    FB (A)

    DLP (D)

    AP (S)

    IF (S)

    AP (A)

    IF (S)

    AF (A)

    TI:

    Retain Possession

    Dribble Less

    Lower Tempo

    Close Down More

    Tight Marking

    Push Higher Up

    Play Out Of Defence

    Work Ball Into Box

    Roam From Position

    Whipped Crosses

I'm still tweaking it here and there, but I'm just giving people an alternative - it doesn't have to be a highly structured team shape for you to play possession football :).
