  1. I really miss the widgets and timeline in the matchday view. I use the 2D visualisation and it means that there's a lot of blank space around the edge of the screen now that I'd like to fill up with useful information like I've been able to do for the last few years. At the very least I wish that clicking the icon in the top left to get the stats was a persistent thing that didn't close itself.

Removing the timeline just plain sucks. I know it's been done because it's not realistic that you could re-watch things on the fly, but y'know what else isn't realistic? Me being manager of Everton.

  2. Yeah, I'd have no problem with switching to the 3D view if I thought it was worth it. But when I see things like the two managers shaking hands before the game with a clear foot of space between their actual hands, I take it as a representative sign that it's just not there yet.

It looks a lot better than it did originally, but it's been in the game for what, 8 years now? It doesn't look 8 years better.

  3. One day we'll get better team talks, right? My Everton team just won 2-1 in a pre-season friendly against Wolves and these are my options:

    1. I say nothing and get no reaction - may as well just stand there mute, staring at my players as they get changed.

    2. I'm not happy that you won a game you were always in control of.

    3. I wasn't expecting you to beat a team from the league below us, I'm delighted.

    4. I wasn't expecting you to play so well against a team from the league below us, I'm delighted.

    5. Don't get complacent in the next pre-season friendly.

In context, none of those options are that useful. Where's the "well played, you got the job done, let's go home"? I know this isn't exactly feedback on FM18 because this has been the same for a few years now, but this feels like something that was implemented ages ago and never properly revisited. Let's have some context-sensitive teamtalks!

  4. Minor annoyance with the player instructions screen:

    1. Why is the toggle for player instructions defaulted to 'position' rather than 'personalised'? I just spent like 20 minutes going through each of my players setting their specific roles without noticing that the toggle was even there, so none of the changes counted. I was just changing the 'position' instructions over and over and had to do the whole thing again, with the added step of switching every single player to 'personalised' instructions.

    2. Why can't I set personalised instructions for injured players? The toggle isn't even there.

  5. Not a fan of the matchday UI. The data analyst view isn't a good replacement for the 'new' 2D view if you want to use any widgets at all - I feel like I need binoculars.

I don't really get why certain elements have been shrunk down so much - the confirm changes button seems tiny.

Does the match timeline (not keen on it's random move to the top of the screen, fwiw) not work at half time now? Like, I can't get to half time and just click the goal icon to watch a replay?

It's funny I don't think I've ever seen one person say they use the "updated" 2D mode, I forget what it's called. I didn't even check this year is it still in the game?

I only started using it in FM17 when I realised how much I preferred it to 2D classic. And now it's gone. Dang.

I'll try using the Data Analyst view, but my first impressions are that you have to zoom out too far to get any widgets on the screen, making the ball tiny and the players completely obscured by their nametags.

  7. Anastasios Skalidis, cant remember which game! Was clearly a 'bug' player but oh so enjoyable to own!

Ah Skalidis, great shout - he scored a stupid amount of goals for me.

Also, Enzo Scorza, who single handedly got my Swansea team to the Premiership a couple of years ago.

My most recent favourite player is Alexander Rondon, who scores so many goals for me (again with Swansea) in FM08.

Eduardo Taboada a couple of years ago, brilliant young Spanish goalkeeper, not sure if he was actually real.

There's a couple of players whose names escape me right now - a Norwegian teenager a few years ago who could play in every single outfield position (I've been trying to remember so I could sign him in FMLive, but to no avail), and an Italian striker in CM03/04 who I played up front with Rooney for Everton and they both scored over 60 goals in one season. He was really obscure and I've never heard of him outside the game. Think it was Davide something...

I may actually have to reinstall some older copies of the game to find them again.

EDIT: Davide Moscardelli! That was the one! He scored so many goals with Rooney.
