Thanks for the feedback. Whoever mentioned "scripting" that isn't what I'm suggesting. Scripting, at least how I understand it, can be a lot more complicated and actually plays out more "real-to-life" most of the time than the results I've seen in my, albeit, very short time playing the game. It's more like randomized soccer animation. Not much AI application to real-life teams, players, personnel, scouting, etc. Perhaps, and I understand this can happen from playing OOTP and such, the code is so convoluted from years of mods and tweaks and such..and it just gets lost..disregarding the best intentions by the player? I'm going to give it one more season. This time I'm going to give it a real test to verify my suspicions "nothing really matters". I'm going to use the Shamrocks in the IPL. If they don't win, or at the very least finish in the top 3, I'm done with the game and that will have confirmed what the game ain't (true to life) and is (randomized with a crapload of switches, meters, algorithms, widgets, and tools that don't do a whole lot). I'm not sure I can get a better "control-test" since they've won their league 20 times and the last 3 years in a row.

I bought FM 2023. It "appears" most of what I do(strategies and manipulation) has very little impact on gameplay. It also appears the AI really doesn't come close to mirroring how other teams (that I don't control) perform in real life. Played the 2022 MLS season as Fire. My team did finish in the middle by beating teams they shouldn't beat and losing against really bad teams. No consistency just like a dice roll. The really strange thing is Austin and Philadelphia finished in the bottom third of the standings. Atlanta got 1st in the East. In fact, the standings seemed to be a slot-machine pull as well. Is there anyone else that's had similar results? I'm just not going to continue spending many hours tweaking, trading, signing, etc. to find out nothing really matters. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong in setup? Took defaults as much as possible. But, the most annoying (fun reducing) part is AI controlled teams don't begin to parallel the real-life counterparts. Believe it or not, I tried to find old discussions about this subject but failed.
