I think one cool way to further be able to customize your saves would be adding customizable club visions, for example if you wanted to make your clubs recruitment work like Athletic Bilbao you could add a custom club vision objective at the start of the save that would add a restriction to only sign players from X nation or you could add a restriction to only sign players above the age of 30. You can obviously add these restrictions yourself without the game but i think challenges like these are a lot more gratifying when they are supported by the game and you have a box ticked that works as "proof" that shows you're not cheating. I feel like custom club visions would help elevate a lot of complaints about the games difficulty and club diversity and since it would be completely optional i see no downsides with these changes. I know you can edit a clubs club vision in the pre game editor but personally it's bin a bit wonky and pretty restrictive and making it easily accessible and intuitive would help people doing custom challenges quite a lot.
