  1. here is one of my favorite tactics from FM22 that does not work at all in FM21. same team, league, similar players (some same players too), same PPMs. (just cant remember if i had counter-press or counter ticked and if i had prevent short GK on, i tried all variations but it didn't make a difference)

in FM22 it's silky smooth 1 touch passing, in FM21 its hot trash.

the biggest difference in my opinion is that in FM21 once a player makes a decision, he is going to carry on a do what he has decided even if the circumstances has changed that is why you get wingers and fullbacks that once they start running with the ball they don't stop even if they are running into 3 players. In FM 22 on the other hand when it lunched in the blog there was a portion that talked about "slices" and basically the fact that now players can change their decision if the condition is no longer favourable to what they initially wanted to do.

well, that sucks. I'm a Touch player and they've killed it off in 22, the Xbox version is pretty trash, and the above is a huge difference between the games. i might have to switch back to full fat FM after 6 years.

even with poor teams it's much easier to hold on to the ball compared to FM21 where they would just kick it long if there was a threat of them being under pressure.

unrealistically easy in FM22 I'd say

    1) You said in some games youre facing issues...But how many games? If there's 2 or 3 and satisfied the way they play most of the season... Its not so bad...

    2) When you're facing these issues, what kind of lineup you're meeting? Park the bus team? Because you play with much higher tempo and decrease it can maybe help you. You ve got only an attack duty to take space (the If),maybe you can test your winger on attack or change your F9 for a Dlfat.

    It's just theory. Good Luck.

before posting, we were crushing it most games. now it's almost every other game, no one's willing to make that final pass behind.

defensive sides. as soon as we score and/or they decide to open up a bit to try and score then its smooth sailing for us from there. i tend to switch my RCM to a CMa mid game if we don't find a goal.

  4. i've got my team playing pretty much the way i want them to for the most part which is quick pass and move plays, everyone's got plays one two PPM. the issue im facing in some games is that no one's willing to make the final pass. i'll have a couple players on the shoulders of the opposition defenders anticipating a through but my CMs, who have tries killer balls, continue to make short passes instead of trying a through ball, or even worse spread the ball out wide to a fullback (not a short pass) who lofts a cross (not a low cross), neither of which aligns with the TIs. the tactic is wonderful in games where they actually play through balls behind in the final third. i already took work ball into box off.

This is not approved in any way, but all instructions are related to their assigned mentality. A Higher Tempo on a cautious mentality will be different from a higher tempo on an attacking mentality.

I know, it doesn’t make sense and SI should really make that clear by naming it accordingly.

However, you can check this by looking at defensive instructions. Check out a higher line on cautious and compare it with an attacking mentality. You will notice the high line on attacking mentality will be slightly higher eventhough both are name „higher line“

    much confusion such wow

so if i wanna play at whatever shorter passing and normal tempo is at balanced but on a higher mentality, how would i do that? just eye ball it in game when there are so many other variables?

  6. not sure how we keep winning these big knockout games with "go for a big win" instant result. 1-2 SF away win over bayern just now

    1.PNG.1c21f00c23f617ba4374ed26c876fe1f.PNG

does the assistant manager take charge for instant result? hes a 2 star assistant with 7 tactical knowledge.

how do i check what tactic and adjustments were used in these instant results? it's so confusing that we keep getting pummeled from start to finish no matter what changes i make when i'm in charge but then win on instant result.

edit: second leg "go for a big win"

There are many ways to do that.  Use a lower Mentality; use a deeper formation; be more direct in your attacking play; re-jig roles and duties; don’t play with a high defensive line; some/all of the above; something else entirely.  With a small team you can’t expect to play the same way against all teams so you need to adapt, have a Plan B.  On the other hand if all you want is a different tactic, check the downloads page at the top of the forum.

i'm not good at analyzing during a match and making adjustments, it just looks to me like my players are amateurs. i tend to drop it down to balanced, DM to defend duty, RW to support duty, fullbacks instead of wingbacks, but then we just get pinned back all game, absolutely pummeled. at least being more aggressive, we manage to create some chances. do i just need to make a new, pure counter-attack tactic?

One other thing you can do: manage your own expectations. By any measure you are over achieving - name the last Polish team who got through the group stages let alone through to the semi final.  So good job 👌.

name the last polish team with a squad like mine. its no Real, but its pretty good i'd say. i actually threw the UCL group stages 3 seasons ago to go for the UEL title and won it comfortably. i can practically buy an all star team but whats the point if it'll have no impact on club rep and how large clubs approach us?

There you go.  You’re dominating the Polish league with a relatively aggressive tactic - you’re a big fish in a small pond and your small fish opponents will treat you as such.  But in Europe you’re a small fish and there’s a lot of sharks out there.  You simply don’t have the quality of player to play in the same manner against those teams, so your “positive” tactic is too optimistic.  Try being more cautious.

    well you got any suggestions?

i don't even bother against the barcas and madrids and just use instant result "play for the win" and it tends to work quite frequently. beat city 5-3 to reach the QF currently, 2-3 QF loss to them previous season, season before that i actually played those big games myself beating utd 4-0 and psg 4-2 with the above tactic and thought we can actually hold our own now and then lost SF 1-2 again to city in a VERY one sided thrashing.

That still doesn’t tell us who you are managing.

Regardless of the quality of your players, your opponents will tend to base their tactics on various factors such as your club’s reputation.  Real Madrid have a high rep therefore their opposition may tend to play fairly cautiously against them, which might require you to adapt your tactic in a certain way.  Whereas Cliftonville would have a quite low rep, thus opponents (in Europe) may play more openly or aggressively against them which might require a different tactical approach.

Anyway, looking at your posted tactic you are playing in a very one dimensional manner - your tactic is symmetrical on both flanks.  That may restrict variety in your attacking play and variety can be quite beneficial.

this club rep thing is a bit stupid. like if some oil tycoon bought a low rep club and bought all the mbappes and haalands of the world, would madrid still treat them like a small rep club?

anyway we're a 4 star club in the polish league and our tactic looks a bit different now, its this if i remember correctly -

Which team are you playing as?  There’s a difference between comfortably winning La Liga with Real Madrid and not performing in Europe vs comfortably winning the Northern Ireland league with Cliftonville and not performing in Europe, if you see what I mean.  That would affect any tactical advice given - for example you could play a more assertive tactic as Madrid instead of managing Cliftonville 👍.

also wondering how to encourage more crosses since most of my players are +6 feet, high jumping reach and strength, and i'd like to spam crosses to my 6'5" TM against stubborn narrow sides in the league. i have cross to TM on all my wide players but they don't cross a lot when they get the ball on the wings (WBiB turned off, switch IF to IW against defensive narrow sides).

Wow, that's a lot of goals scored!

Is Stamos the player who has the trait 'drops deep'?  if so, that doesn't mix well with Mez(a).  Midfield would work great for him but maybe better as an AP(a) or DLP(s), though DLP won't make as much use of his physical and dribbling ability.  Does he have the trait runs with ball frequently?  That'd be good for him.

Yeah, with Attacking, Higher Lines, WB(a), BBM, Mez, you are more exposed.  Or maybe it was just a bad run or lucky for opposition?

    1.JPG.81cbb7c188d5428c86127f0e82e57642.JPG

results since switching to attacking. no more than 1.5 xg in all but 1 game with the opponent creating more decent chances and having a higher xg. combination of getting lucky and being more clinical. for example, im currently in a game and we have 2 shots with .05 xg at half time and scored from a long shot while the opposition have 6 shots with a 1.01xg and should've scored one.

yea but i had to switch stamos with my CM who couldn't put away chances.

Hard to say but your most recent tactic has 2 playmakers, shorter passing and play out of defense, which might slow down your attack.

My focus would be on your LW.  He has really good Pass/Vis/Fl/Dec/Ant/Team.  He could be a creative master.  Might be wasting him as IF, plus 'drop deep' conflicts with IF, especially IF(a).  You could play him as an AP(a) or T(a).  With his ability to read the game, great physical ability and 'drops deep' (which compliments AP and T), he would find space between your opponents' midfield and defense.   Then he could make great passes to your midfield runners and maybe make a creative tandem with your striker.

I'd play him on AP(a) because support duty looks more to stay in the space and spray passes and with your LW's good drib/flair/acc/tech/agi, he should be looking to attack and disrupt, then pass to open teammates.  T(a) is like AP but does much less defensively.  If you can risk it -- and your defense looks solid -- T(a) might be worth the risk, but if your CMs both have 'gets further forwards', and your RW is also further forwards, you might be exposing yourself too much. But maybe not because your fullbacks stay back and you have a DM.

Because your D is solid and your RB/LB stay back, can you get a bit more aggressive with your DM?  If he has the Stam/WR/Pace, SV can really energize and offense.  If not, even DM(s).

You could also try a formation change.  4-2-3-1 is more attacking.

i had to switch my LW and CM around since my CM was getting into scoring chances and missing too frequently. ive made some further tweaks to get back into winning ways but also conceding more goals and chances. 2-1, 4-1, 3-1, 4-2 last four games. don't let the scorelines foul you, they were narrow wins.

  14. conceding about 1 long shot goal per game. it's impossible for my 2 CMs to close down all 3 of their midfielders, they're bound to get at least one press free attempt from long range and its never a poor long range shot regardless of who the player is as long as hes not pressed instantly. we usually restrict the other team to taking long shots with our compact defense which is how i want us to play.

  15. most teams press high since we're technically the underdogs according to pre-match odds due to our reputation being one of the lowest in the league but we have better players than most teams in the league due to some shrewd transfer deals recently. even as the 6th placed team we're regarded as underdogs against the 19th placed team. we tend to sit around 40% possession mark due to clearances and long balls. even when i switch the mentality to balanced and lowering the tempo to the lowest setting we can only increase our possession by 7-10% but the end result is the same - clearance/long ball. most of our possession is in our own half trying to play out of a high press, playing multiple pointless safe passes when better progressive passing options that can break the press are available. attacks are quickly squandered due to lack of patience. overall the passing choices made by my players are the wrong ones. they truly play with an underdog's mindset.

on the rare occasion we play against smaller sides, we dominate in possession but are incapable of creating clear cut chances and end up taking lots of long shots and hopeful long passes vs sides that are already defending deep instead of waiting for the incisive pass.
