  1. September-December 2023 So it has been an okay first half of the season, the goals have been coming in abundance.... the defence however..... Well we find ourselves in 10th, Not a disaster by any means but we have to improve if we want Europe, We've not lost very many until recently which can be put to a failed tactical change trying to shore up the backline, As before December we had lost 2 all season long, Very clearly though the backline does need shoring up having conceded 35 in 21 games (Also a little disproportionate due to a 4-3, a 5-0 and a few 3-3s) In the EFL Cup we went out in the 3rd round to Man City, I do feel slightly hard done by with it but I knew the moment we drew City that after last season they wouldn't make it easy for us A month later we had a West London battering to hand out, as Chelsea came to us hoping to be fighting for top 4 while we, at the time, held 3rd place in the league, we put the sword to them without much issue We then took on Man City another month later as we would give everything we had to try and put them down but we just couldn't do it, as it was match for match eventually ending in a 3-3 draw For the January window I'm mainly looking at signing a RB, a new back up GK and then potentially a new backup RCB
  2. Lmao yeah still going from 5 out of 10 to 10 and back to 3 lol, Honestly with the 3 sales just all not great so yeah, I rate Henry but needed the money and love Hickey
  3. August 2023 We've had a good start so far with the new system working very well allowing Aaron Hickey to arrive late into the box as another option in games, our first game came at Anfield against Liverpool which on paper would be considered a worse case scenario Football isn't played on paper though, After going 2-0 down early on we awoke and, inspired by Castrovilli, handed Liverpool a 5-2 battering with Castrovilli looking like De Bruyne from deep creating 3 clear cut chances (2 of which were missed by Viktor Gyokeres) and then capping it off with a 25 yard free kick being rifled into the top corner Our next game was back in West London, as we welcomed Brighton to the Brentford Community Stadium And we continued from the Liverpool game with another 3 points, as Castrovilli would score the only goal of the game to (briefly) put us 2nd in the league Next was a trip to the capital of wales as we travelled to newly promoted Cardiff City And we drew 2-2 after a late collapse, it was a shame but Cardiff deserved to take a point with them so well done to them, It was a poor result for us though After this was a West London Derby as Fulham would be our next visitors And it was all about Ivan Toney, as he would score and be sent off for a two footed tackle within the first 15 of the game, We did manage to get a 2nd from early sub Gyokeres but Fulham would just outplay us with the man advantage Next was Cambridge United away in the Carabao Cup And it was smooth sailing in Cambridge, as new signing Odin Thiago Holm would make his debut after signing from Norweigan side Valeranga as our last signing of the window Then we travelled to the Red Rose of Lancastershire to face Blackburn Rovers who were newly promoted after over 10 years exiled from the Premier League And it was more of the same from us after conquering Blackburn 3-0, admittedly the goals did come late but I wasn't worried So after this start I can say I'm quietly confident of maybe nicking a european spot whether its through the league or winning a cup, Let me know what you guys reckon, anyways I'll see you in January for the first half of the season update
  4. I might have but if I was relegated the challenge was failed so it'd be a tough one
  5. Well this has been a very interesting window Transfer Window 23/24 So I should start by saying that I am changing Brentford's transfer policy really, I still want to target young players for the most part for cheap prices however this window has been what I would call a statement of intent, the first thing was a change in system This is what we played the majority of last season, defensive in shape? yes, but we was surprisingly good in the attack having plenty of games where we scored 3 or more goals, however I knew the whole time this was just until I got to the summer when I could change the system freely This is what I plan to be playing next season with a clear idea on how I want it to look The idea is that the LB will invert to create a diamond in midfield with the LB at the base, the RB shifting across into a back three, with the front 3 being rather basic... press. Now some of you may be thinking we aren't Man City we can't do this and your right we aren't but I dont think it'll take that level of talent to make this system work, so I'll start on the outgoings David Raya was the first sale, having shipped him to Saudi Arabia for £8,000,000 which was a low fee I'll admit but I was happy to ship him out anyways, and you'll see my replacement is more than good enough to make up for him Canos & Ghoddos left on frees but it doesn't bother me, personally I think Sergi Canos is a good player but I'm not mad about losing him for free and I just dont rate Ghoddos Rico Henry left for Atletico Madrid for £18,750,000 maybe I should have gotten more but he was causing issues so bye bye Rico Dasilva got sold to West Ham for £16,000,000 same situation as Henry And thats basically the only notable departures but I;ll warn you now we spent heavy to make up for it starting with our new No.1 Robert Sanchez joined us from Brighton for £15,000,000 I believe it was a great signing for the cost, couple years younger then his countryman David Raya and for me in game at least a better GK, also Sanchez's kicking will be very important to us as he will easily be able to find Ivan Toney up top if needed Then from AZ Alkmaar we signed Tijani Reijnders to play as my No.10 freeing up Damsgaard to play on the left wing which is where I feel he's best, Reijnders very clearly has the ability to be a great no.10 but he also has the work rate to do exactly what I want him to do which is to press from that 10 position, he signed for £18,000,000 Now yes. I did break the bank signing Kilman, he cost us £35,000,000 from Wolves which is our record signing however I needed someone to come in as a partner to Ajer who wasn't going to hold him back, Nothing against Pinnock I feel he's a great defender, but on the ball he lacks, Ben Mee is too old to play regularly, I just feel that Kilman gives us the ability to successfully play out from the back when we want, he can pick out that 40, 50, 60 yard pass if he needs, he's comfortable bringing the ball out from the back, I just think I had to sign him, at 26 he's got a solid 5 years at his best so I paid what it took to get him in Our next deal was to bring in Charlie Patino on loan with a fee of £1,400,000 as I feel in that DLP role he suits it far better then the options I had at the club and I'm a fan of Patino I won't lie, I could see him go right to the top As of now, our last signing was Ridvan Yilmaz from Rangers for £21,000,000 to replace Rico Henry and act as the deputy for Aaron Hickey whilst also offering us a more traditional wing back if we feel its necassary Spent as of 23rd July 2023: £90,500,000 Income as of 23rd July 2023: £43,000,000 Net Spend: £47,500,000
  6. End of Season 1 So, I decided to just go to the end of the season and give a few highlights of the second half Premier League Season 1 It came close but we stayed up on the last day thanks to 2 draws against Chelsea and Man City in the last 4 games which means the save continues, I'll be aiming for top half next season if I get a good transfer window FA Cup Season 1 I'm happy enough with this, the game didnt save after the first game against Forest Green and they got a draw out of me the next time but with some luck I could see us winning a cup next season Moments to remember We did have some good moments this season that will give me hope, personally for me the game against Liverpool was very much our best game all season going 3-0 up at a time with no response End of season thoughts Looking back on the season I'm... satisfied with this, it could have gone much better I know but 15th isnt awful. What is awful is the point tally. 39 points from 38 games is absolutely embarrassing, now in fairness factoring in the first 15 games which i wasn't in charge for we got 28 points from 23 games which is better but still not great, Any other season thats very much a relegation point tally and we are lucky to still be a Premier League club, I have a good idea who I want out following Janelt's record £30 million departure to Brighton back in January, these people being David Raya: Not been good enough to be honest, Ik irl he's brilliant but under me he just doesn't seem to have that kind of ability in him Rico Henry: Nothing against Henry he was great when not injured but thats the problem. He's injured often and Aaron Hickey is waiting in the wings to get the call as my first choice LB so figure I'm best selling Rico whilst he still has most of his value Josh Dasilva: Just not played often enough since signing Castrovilli, feel selling Dasliva and Henry could easily fund my summer plans alone So I'll see you guys at the start of next season
  7. December 2022 & January 2023 After the World Cup we came back to a West London Derby in the EFL Cup We came back to a 3-1 loss which admittedly could have gone so much worse, Chelsea had bout 3 extra goals ruled out from offside, safe to say i wasn't very happy about the match Next was a visit to the King Power Stadium This was much better from us, having gone to Leicester knowing this would be a relegation 6 pointer I was ecstatic about the performance we gave, everything went right it felt like and if we keep playing like this we'll escape the relegation scrap by say February On the 29th December, Newcastle decided to try their luck in West London and just like the last game for the most part it all went right, on the brink of half time however Ethan Pinnock brought down Isak in the box and Newcastle were awarded a penalty, Schar stepped up to take it but Raya made the save which would allow a Mathias Jensen strike to give us the win over the Toon Next we had a London derby as Tottenham came to visit Against Spurs we couldn't quite keep up the good form as Tottenham managed to scrape by with Ben Davies getting a rebound off a corner for the only goal of the game Next we had n FA Cup & PL double against Leeds United, both at Elland Road In the FA Cup we drew 2-2 which turned it into a triple header against Leeds as the replay was scheduled for 3 days after the League Game, this game however was incredibly close and both us and Leeds will consider the other side lucky to have come away with a draw In the League, we had beaten Leeds 2-0 in a clean game that was rather quiet outside of the goals, not much to talk about really Then came the FA Cup Replay in West London This was very much the Ivan Toney show with Toney getting 4 goal involvements Leeds had taken the league and we responded quickly getting 4 goals before they scored the last of this series of matches with a chip over Strakosha (didnt fancy playing Raya for this one) Next was a game against Everton in the Gtec Community Stadium It was an extremely close match with basically nothing in it as Everton just got the better of us with a goal on the brink of half time with a low shot from just inside the box Transfer News: So obviously covering the January window as well we have made 3 signings this window 2 from Serie A 1 from the Championship Gaetano Castrovilli was my first signing, looking at him he very much fits my ideal box to box midfielder profile, at 6'2 he has the height and physical profile for it, hes great at carrying the ball forward with his 15 dribbling and 14 passing I honestly could see him being a very important part of my midfield for the next 5 years and for only £7,000,000 he was an absolute bargain in my opinion From Coventry City, we signed Viktor Gyokeres to play as a backup striker/partner to Ivan Toney, I play 2 systems a 532 which Gyokeres could easily go right into that AF or TF role to allow a rest for Mbuemo or Toney or he could go up front in the 4231 and he can also go into that left or right flank and I'm very happy to have got him for £13,500,000 all together Our third signing came from Spezia as Emil Holm came in for £9,000,000 as my new first choice RB, I'll admit he isn't going to be someone that stays around for a long time if I'm looking to win the league in 7 seasons but as the guy we have until we find someone good enough to win the league at RB
  8. Yeah icl the youth academy situation makes Brentford by far the worse team to get for this, thinking i might have to scrap the 1 academy player in the starting XI rule because i cant do it
  9. Just wanna quickly mention @Coxie84 and their SAF challenge with Brighton, I did plan this save before seeing their thread but felt like it's worth giving it a mention anyways, its a good read if you fancy it Oh boy SAF challenge, very exciting in the PL almost every team would be great to do, cant wait to see what fallen giant i get to raise up, ooh i hope i get a forest or a villa or maybe a Leeds- Oh. We got Brentford..... Oh well! Brentford Football Club is a professional football club in Brentford, West London, England which competes in the Premier League, the highest tier of English football. Nicknamed "The Bees”, the club was founded in 1889 and played home matches at Griffin Park from 1904 before moving to Gtech Community Stadium in 2020. Their main rivals are fellow West London-based clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. They are affiliated with the women's club Brentford Women FC. Brentford initially played amateur football before they entered the London League in 1896 and finished as runners-up of the Second Division and then the First Division to win election into the Southern League in 1898. They won the Southern League Second Division in 1900–01 and were elected into the Football League in 1920. Brentford won the Third Division South title in 1932–33 and the Second Division title in 1934–35. The club enjoyed a successful spell in the top flight of English football, reaching a peak of fifth in the First Division, in 1935–36, their highest ever league finish, before three relegations left them in the Fourth Division by 1962. They were crowned Fourth Division champions in 1962–63, but were relegated in 1966 and again in 1973 after gaining promotion in 1971–72. Brentford spent 14 seasons in the Third Division after gaining promotion in 1977–78 and went on to win the Third Division title in 1991–92, though were relegated again in 1993. Brentford were relegated into the fourth tier in 1998 and won promotion as champions in the 1998–99 campaign. The club were relegated in 2007 and won promotion as champions of League Two in 2008–09 and then were promoted out of League One in 2013–14. They had unsuccessful Championship play-off campaigns in 2015 and 2020. Brentford have a poor record in finals, finishing as runners-up in three Associate Members' Cup/Football League Trophy finals (1985, 2001 and 2011) and losing four play-off finals (the 1997 Second Division final, 2002 Second Division final, 2013 League One final and 2020 Championship final). However, Brentford won the 2021 Championship final to be promoted to the highest level for the first time since the 1946–47 season. SAF Challenge The Rules of the save: You have to stay at one club the whole save Aim to bring through youth players Get long term players to join the backroom staff Goals of the save: Win a domestic trophy within 4 seasons Win a league title within 7 seasons Win a league and cup double in 8 seasons Win a league, cup and a UCL in 13 seasons Rules to follow: No business dealing with your major rival, the game has listed this as QPR for me so not upset with that No more than 11 signings per season, 8 of which considered first team players Have at least 1 academy product/HGC player in the starting XI every match (if none registered rule doesnt come into effect until Jan 1st) Promote at least 1 academy product per season The Save Thomas Frank is a loved figure at Brentford however football is a ruthless sport, and with them down in 19th, Matthew Benham decided to say Thanks for your service Thomas, we wish you luck in your future endevaours and brought in a fella who was a youth coach a couple hours away at Millwall, Richards comes in having to prepare for a midweek game in the EFL Cup against of all teams.... Premier League Champions Manchester City (Just to clear up. I dont have a new season update and Toney is not banned in this universe) The Squad looks quite strong, hopefully will pull myself out the relegation zone after the WC break as its coming right after this City game I'm fairly certain November 2022: EFL Cup against Man City So first game and its a very good result, beating out Man City in the EFL Cup, obviously it's their B team but you can see that we got the win. Laporte opened the scoring from a deep City FK, great delivery to the far post and he met it with his head to give City the lead, 12 minutes later we had a corner and Norgaard made it 1-1 then was ver close up to a 67th minute penalty that Toney put away without issue to make it 2-1 Premier League at Home against Brighton For my second game, Brighton came to the Gtech Community Stadium and goals were found very quickly with it being extremely end to end and we nicked the draw in the dying moments of the game to the dismay of Brighton fans, This took us up to 18th in the table
