  1. Sorry folks, it's another Everton tycoon takeover! They've had it for a season or so, they've not really spent that much relative to amount of money they have, however, I am currently running a save with Shrewsbury and Brighton at the same time and I was about to sell Pedro Goncalves (from Brighton) to them for £86m, so I figured that I'd upload this before I hit confirm! Feel free to retire my Shrewsbury and Brighton managers. :)

    Season 23 - 2046/47

    Schedule / Squad / Transfers / Finances / Manager

Season Summary: The season kicked off with two super cups. As the Europa League champions, we faced Atlético Madrid in the European Super Cup. Although we managed to defeat them three years ago during the UCL league phase at the Metropolitano, this time we fell short against the reigning European champions, suffering a significant 3-0 loss.

Our next challenge came against Sudamericana winners, San Lorenzo from Argentina. We mirrored the previous super cup result, but this time triumphing over the South Americans with a 3-0 victory.

In the Champions League, we were drawn into a challenging group. Despite losses to Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter, and Galatasaray, we secured victories against Lyon, Salzburg, and Espanyol to advance to the knockout playoffs. Unfortunately, we were then defeated by Liverpool 6-2 at Anfield, following a goalless draw in Greece.

We finished 3rd in the regular phase and 2nd in the championship group of the greek league, earning us another shot at the UCL next season, though this time trailing by 10 points behind Olympiacos.

After 23 seasons, we've only clinched the league title twice and have yet to secure the Greek Cup title. This time we were defeated by Kallithea in the quarter-finals.

Greece has also slipped in the European rankings, losing two of the four UCL spots. Domestically, we continue to face challenges. Despite consistent European qualifications and now holding the second-highest reputation in Greece, we still encounter internal struggles. Olympiacos maintains a significant lead over the competition, while PAOK and AEK always prove to be strong opponents.

Our facilities rank among the best in the country with no room for improvement. Although our academy consistently produces quality players, the rising talents often seek transfers after a few years in pursuit of playing alongside better teammates.

Dimitris Tsoktouridis, 42c, claimed the European Golden Boy title, while Valon Hasani, 44e, was named the world's top wonderkid by NXGN 2027. Marios Thraskias, 43d, secured second place, with Babis Tasiopoulos, 45e, coming in 18th.

Marios Thraskias, 43d, also scooped up the best young player and best Greek player awards in the league. Alongside Dimitris Chatzigiannis, 36e, he was named to the Best Superleague XI, while I was honored with the Manager of the Year award.

At the end of the season, we'll say goodbye to a few important players in Kavala's history, that are now past their prime: Andreas Niniadis 25e, Christos Omiridis 30e and Gersi Kuqi 28h.

Youth intake: our youth team continues to showcase excellence, boasting a few exceptional talents from the latest intake, as Olsi Istrefi 47a, Ilias Giannikoglou 47b, Vasilis Papadopoulos 47cThodoros Bedrelis 47d and Thanasis Papapetrou 47e. With our youth squad dominating world football, the future looks bright, as long as we can keep the wonderkids with us...

Got some really interesting players on your save, feeling inspired to take this challenge on! What newgen facepack do you use? They look quality.

  3. Season 1 Summary

    Transfers In

Birmingham were busy in the summer anyway, however, that didn't stop me from dabbling in the market. We had a £1m budget and some wiggle room after lowering any proposed bonuses for League and Cup success.

    image.png.04bb060d5c5c95611726f8c848012998.png

    Transfers Out

We terminated the loans of Cody Drameh, Andre Dozzell, Emanuel Aiwu and Oliver Burke. Realistically because we were overpaying on wage contributions for all of them and there were much better options available either for free or a free/cheap loan.

Jay Stansfield's final contribution in a Birmingham shirt was a marvelous, scrappy goal. What dreams are made of!

  4. 144.png144.png

Highly decorated, prolific, iconic. A myriad of adjectives not necessarily afforded to professional footballers from Uzbekistan. Enter the fray Maksim Shatskikh, arguably the best Uzbek player of all time and the validated heir to the great Andriy Shevchenko at Dynamo Kiev. Despite never playing in one of Europe's elite leagues, he is the leading scorer alongside Sergiy Rebrov in the Ukrainian top-flight and was the first Asian player to score in the Champions League.

    484982.png Thumbnail

Although in the management universe, Shatskikh finds himself managing Paxtakor in Uzbekistan, the likelihood of him getting a top European job appears to be quite slim.

As such, the Uzbek decided to reinvent himself and following Wayne Rooney's turgid showing as Birmingham City manager, Shatskikh finds himself managing the Blues.

    image.jpeg.b481946ca6bf55ae19d3ba3a3ca07c80.jpeg

    Why Birmingham?

A club in complete disarray, despite new ownership expressing their ambition, with a target of a return to Premier League football, they are languishing (at time of writing) in 21st in the Championship.

    Any stipulations for the save?

Abdukodir Khusanov and Abbosbek Fayzullayev are two exciting players. I want any success to be built around them. Ideally, if I am to win a Premier League title with Birmingham, I want at least 3 Uzbek players in the squad. Amirbek Saidov would be the ideal 3rd player to complete the trio. Better yet, if I could start funneling Uzbek players through the youth system, that'd be awesome.

Been playing the save for a while now, but thought I'd update seeing as though I'm really enjoying it.

    Vanarama National League North

    image.png.290f50f43a2a742ccb9bc1acffe9590d.png

Found it really difficult personally, the starting squad was of course not very brilliant and some players left after promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier League due to unreasonable demands. Picked up Mateusz Musialowski, Ethan Wheatley and Rory Powell who were all revelations in their respective positions. Started the season as draw specialists, picked up towards the end but couldn't get close to South Shields and Spennymoor in 2nd and 1st respectively. Eventually usurped South Shields in the play-off final, rode our luck but embraced squad overhaul upon being promoted.

    Vanarama National League

    image.png.38beb7b3a532d79d08e389649aeab5b6.png

Simply just ran away with it after being shrewd in the free market. Mo Faal came in from West Brom and scored 38 in 44. Tommi O'Reilly from Man City was instrumental in our midfield with 23 goal contributions in 39 games. Rory Powell departed for £110k mid-season which generated a fair bit of income for us and we managed to draw in some money with a half-decent FA Cup run where West Ham stopped us in our tracks.

    League Two

    image.png.8472c1806d7ee45aa1841e954d649743.png

Started exceptionally well, hammering everyone which bodes well for another back-to-back promotion.

    Tactics

    image.png.b187f7040b86b562a8c692db6f074d3b.png

Squad has been assembled with pretty much all free transfers. Tactic is one I've used over the course of various saves and works a treat in overloading and creating lots of chances. Connor Gemmill is the only player I've signed for a transfer fee, who randomly popped in my inbox courtesy of my scout. He arrived from Cumbernauld Colts in the lower leagues of Scotland, how my scout found him, I have no idea but he was only £1.8k and I'd say he's potentially Championship standard at some point in the future.

  6. Has anyone managed to load up a save and get Hashtag United yet? Their reputation is pretty low, I'd imagine it's quite rare that they will get promoted but would boast quite the challenge.

On the contrary, I have started with Radcliffe, currently 6th in the league around the half-way point. Using an intricate tactic for Vanarama North but with a big man up-front, finding form quite nicely.

Cheers mate.. I've gotten into this first one as well. Sold off  what I could sell, Released quite a few yth and cleared the whole staff out too. Found this insane RW at Birmingham that I've been building the team around. £8m upfront.. 13 games 9 goals 2 assists (Needs to bump the assists up a little but great start to his Cardiff career)

What's he called? I might have to check him out.

I can't remember if you do because I uploaded an earlier save but I courted a Serbian newgen defender who ended up at Man United (my whole transfer policy was mostly Eastern Europeans) and went on loan to Cardiff on my save called Markovic, check him out. I'd check out George Young from Portsmouth too, he came through my academy, really promising.

I am not looking for a system that gives you 100% results. I am looking for a system where max potential ability scouts don't miss the top PA, of course, together with the false positives.

I quote from the OP: "consistent" and "effective", "expect false positives".

Low determination and bad personalities didn't fulfill their potential in other years either. 195 PA lazy arse with 4 determination as a youth means a lot of hard work to be able to make him fulfill his PA, it will take a miracle. Injuries will break the players too. Bad facilities, bad coaches, bad training schedules, playing time, etc, there are countless factors that will contribute on missing PA.

I am a 100% micromanager, absolutely nothing is delegated or put on auto or general, be it training, scouting, transfers, B team coaches, players, nothing. Pre season is hell each year managing A, B and youth team.

PS: I don't like managing small teams anymore, because it takes away 75% of the game for many years, until you end up big in the top league, and you can afford scouts, B and youth teams, staff, etc. In my opinion managing small teams is much more easier than doing a big club, it's way less work.

As I said initially though, I feel like those top PA players may get missed every now and then because of such large discrepancies between attributes relative to existing players in your squad. I am merely hypothesizing myself by suggesting that but I do feel as though it's a logical explanation.

  9. 8 hours ago, godzilu said:

The star system is definitely related to your players, but even if you end up having a team of superstars, you still get 5 star potential 16-17 years old even if they are not 190 like Mbappe, and they are 175 180.

But, I can't say anything 100% since I've never tested properly the new scouting/rating system since it changed a few years ago. I will do it this autumn, planning multiple tests, tactics tests, scouting tests. Depends on my time, scouting will be a priority. For tactics, I want to compare vanilla tactics against each other and see which one fairs better in which situation, that will require tho quite a lot of automation prepping, time will tell if I will have time.

I was curious if anyone had the time to devise a strong scouting system based on tests and observations, googling for such things returned no results.

In many ways, I feel like scouting is often hit and miss regardless. I don't think any system will necessarily be fool-proof and I think that adds to the realism, scouts can get it wrong in real life. There is never a guarantee with scouting - I actually find that less and less players even fulfill their potential on this years game.

    image.png.c0292dd3ac2d435dd7880d512cf55286.png

We recruited shrewdly after promotion from League 1 as ourselves and Ipswich secured back-to-back promotions.

    New Recruits

    image.png.1b35d66c5375e7efe3572b113dd40ebb.png

We brought in lots of new faces, essentially reshaping the whole squad, ready to push for promotion. Tom Bayliss was particularly impressive as a mezzala, while Timo Bornemann scored 28 goals in the Championship and Nikola Iliev once again showed his quality by scooping the Championship Young Player of the Year award.

    Promising Players

    Uros Kabic

    image.png.45fdec8e81d80d31b72a6a73e2b63487.png

Played on the right or the left wing fuss-free and had a hand in 17 goal contributions.

    Diego Moreira

    image.png.5a390f75e1e7f865ba7a4671095180ef.png

Similarly versatile to Kabic, Moreira was my biggest purchase after offloading £2.7m worth of deadwood. Although not as consistent as Kabic, Moreira's transfer value is an interesting prospect should teams look to pinch him from us.

    Star Loanees

    Nikola Iliev

    image.png.6056a0325adfb5bc7fa659e7e562aabc.png

Improving tenfold throughout the season, Iliev's 15 goals and 11 assists as a shadow striker dragged us into contention for the automatic promotion spots.

    Jan-Carlo Simic

    image.png.4e5f188b45789a75e10e0f6309682b87.png

Of Serbian descent, unfortunately, Simic is now a Borussia Dortmund player and decided against playing for us in the Premier League. However, his 7.04 average rating in the Championship was massively in ensuring Pompey were back in the big time.

    Commitment to Eastern Europe/Balkan Countries

    • Nikola Iliev (loan) - 2022/23 & 2023/24

I managed them in last years game and eventually got in to the Premiership, still got the save on going and have just taken up the Belgium job on a part time basis. My aim is to firstly win either the league cup/FA cup then get into European competiiton on a regular basis. It will keep me busy I think.

I've not played that save for a while not but I did manage to make it into the Premier League myself. Here are some of my star men:

    image.png.e787840d962d0dc9f9147df3b6428625.png

Missed out on him on a free when his contract at Bayern expired, he then went to Championship West Brom for some reason before I snapped him up from them after I won promotion to the Premier League.

    image.png.fed20ac5e52ce25bcd6d61fa9d614865.png

He had a torrid first season in the Premier League but he improved so much over the season.

    image.png.017a7dc8bf5d22109fc110fca5a1bbd7.png

Enes Sali is one of the main reasons that would bring me back to this save now, he's developed so well on this particular save. I actually signed him while I was still in the Championship.

    image.png.b08c647b7c2685008085d780886d2846.png

LOVE this guy, came through the academy, 6"6, shoots with power and a driven personality. He's absolutely absurd considering that I can't imagine his potential being that high for a player that came through my academy when I was in League One. 25 league goals in his first season in the Premier League by the way at 17 as he's just turned 18... he's crazy.

    image.png.adde97bcd4f3cc63bc55ee095cfb66ad.png

Retrained Guler to be a right-winger, such a lovely little player cutting inside.

At £13m release clause, Arsen Zakharyan is great but probably not considered cheap enough to be a bargain.

    Transfers in

Having outlined the needs and wants, obviously my first signing fitted in neither category. Although I was happy enough with our midfield, we were 'blessed' with a disproportionate number of ball-winning midfielders and were rather short on creativity. I had my eye on Lorient's Enzo Le Fee all season but had no immediate plans to sign him. Then a news report raised the prospect of him signing for either Man Utd or Newcastle, which rather tipped my hand. He was signed for £6m:

    image.png.cdee0664289f039c944c3502796fed4f.png

As a replacement - and upgrade - at CB I had been tracking Dinamo Zagreb's Josip Sutalo. He's good in the air and tough in the tackle, with good physicals and mentals - I was sure he was a player that would be worth the investment. He was duly signed for £15m.

    image.png.b3a3e1144ddc7abd46eb4efe88eba292.png

With lingering uncertainty over the future of Toney, and unable to re-sign Fer Nino, I was looking for a player who offered much of what those two strikers provided us. I found him in another youngster from eastern Europe, Augsberg's Croation striker Dion Drena Beljo. Ideally, I'd like a little more pace but, according to the scouts and coaches, he has plenty of room to grow:

    image.png.12fd21c4d3c8b3e74e34a734e82392ec.png

And finally - so I thought - we needed a replacement for the departed Wissa, although I'd already decided that we would play Keane Lewis-Potter at AML so what was needed was a backup to Brian Mbeumo at AMR. In came Portuguese youngster Francisco Conceicao, signed from Ajax for £11.25m:

    image.png.b162da995021371d7e110db9f527dd41.png

Having spoken a couple of days ago about my fears of relying on 3 players covering both AML and AMR while Mbeumo is out until early 2024, my hand was forced when Conceicao suffered a back injury just before the first game of the season and was expected to miss the opening month so I felt I had no option but to bring another covering player. I eventually found him - I hope - in Matías Soulé, a 20-year-old Argentinian who joined on a season-long loan from Juventus. He's "not far off first-team level" and should provide long-term cover.

     image.png.85123803237570fa2c5f362814078d45.png

Some really good signings here, Sutalo and Le Fee have been good squad players on my Everton save and Beljo is a dependable 'meta' forward on the game.

We had struggled with the core of our side and taking inspiration from this thread, our recruitment was Scandinavian themed. Morten Thorsby signing from Union Berlin and Sivert Mannsverk joining from Molde. These two signings complemented our tactical switch to a 4-2-3-1 Gegen-press with two ball winning midfielders and we have not looked back results or performance wise.

These two have been really good squad players on my save, Thorsby is technically a bit off but I've managed to get his key playmaking attributes to a respectable Premier League level. The pair of them have really good personalities too which helps a lot for influencing the wider squad.

  16. Season 1 - 2022/23

    image.png.27078d43f5aafc87c4e9afa6e000732b.png

    image.png.3273ff8276feee6967a2ebfe235a01d7.png

I have a lot of experience in winning promotions from League One and I find it is simply just a case of navigating the loan market well and rotating frequently. All other cup competitions were low priority and we bowed out of them early, so unfortunately no other silverware for us.

    Promising Players

    Ntazana Mayembe

    image.png.8ce7671309d1e820b17ee7b3f87cf821.png

Brought in as a youngster to play sparingly across the season, due to Dane Scarlett's fitness issues, Mayembe actually ending up playing 25 games and scored 13 goals which is a respectable tally for a free transfer.

    Zak Swanson

    image.png.1f8f5b44b56b402059e422dc8aa6dfd7.png

Swanson is really versatile and did a good job slotting in at either left-back or right-back all season.

    Star Loanees

    Nikola Iliev

    image.png.b553f3ea8536607e6b0d4a5442379d61.png

When I save that Iliev was available (and for a pittance per week), I couldn't help but bring him in. I'm aiming for players to replicate roles within Portsmouth's history and Iliev very much replicated the success of his countryman Svetoslav Todorov who was mercurial in Portsmouth's promotion campaign into the Premier League. Iliev scored 17 in 34 in the league with a 7.22 average rating, the Bulgarian was deployed as a shadow striker for most of the season but had some spells as a striker too. I will be looking to acquire Iliev permanently at some point but now we remain patient to see if Inter Milan will allow us to keep him for the Championship.

    Patryck Lanza

    image.png.2978bc307fb30479f13b5d9e5b964c90.png

Lanza was simply far too good for League One. Playing as an attacking wing-back, he finished the season with 8 assists.

    Notable Mentions

Stan Mills from Everton played well when called upon, as did Akinkunmi Amoo when we loaned him in from FC Copenhagen in January. Gabrijel Rukavina, Omari Hutchinson and Christian Mosquera were other loanees who came in and made an impact. Mosquera is out of contract in the summer but has chosen to join Manchester United. We were never in the running to feasibly sign him but we will be asking ten Hag about his availability upon his arrival in Manchester.

    Backroom Staff Overhaul

    image.png.adc01ccdd401ebbec9013f809c2bfe95.png

    Commitment to Eastern Europe/Balkan Countries

    • Gabrijel Rukavina (loan) - 2022/23
    • Nikola Iliev (loan) - 2022/23

The main issue has been attaining work permits for certain players so far and a lack of interest given that we've only just become a Championship side. As soon as cement ourselves as a Championship team or when we are a Premier League outfit, that is when I'll really start to overhaul the team and opt for Eastern European/Balkan signings.

  17. Who is the boss?

Dejan Stefanović had a fruitful playing career at Portsmouth between 2003 and 2007, captaining the side during their 7-year-spell in the Premier League. Arguably this stretch of time was the pinnacle of Pompey's history, Harry Redknapp led the South-Coast outfit to an 8th placed finish, a year after Stefanović's final year at the club. Stefanović was looked upon as somewhat of a cult hero during his spell at Portsmouth, proving to be dependable under Redknapp's as well as controversially speaking out against manager Alain Perrin inbetween Redknapp's tenures in charge. The Serb was a favourite of then owner Milan Mandarić and was part of what was something of an Eastern European revolution at the club at the time. The 48-year-old has since spoke of his desire to one day manage Portsmouth and even ended his career at non-league outfit Havant and Waterlooville, close to his home in Portsmouth at the time.

    image.png.e89b95e3513267e058cfa6113ffae3c9.png

    Key Principles

    • Propel Portsmouth back to the Premier League.
    • Recruit Eastern European talent.
    • Replicate Stefanović's on-field leadership with another Serbian defender.
    • Produce Eastern European/Balkan players through the youth system via staff members of Eastern European/Balkan nationalities as well as creating affiliations with Eastern European clubs.
    • Surpass the league high finish of 8th in the Premier League.
    • Look to become Serbia manager as well as Portsmouth boss.
