Odd thing, I tried the Benchmark A twice again same setup. 1st time 3m26sec , 2nd time 3m03sec. It seems there is some standard deviation going on. Not sure what would impact it as no background or other programs were running while testing...
I tried a 6 times or so the first time once it was about 15 seconds longer but the rest were all the same give or take half a second or so and again a few weeks later and got the same time. Each time laptop was in high performance mode (it always is) fresh restart no other programs running, full battery and plugged in was pretty consistent around the 2.49/50 mark even this time when I got the massive reduction in times I triple checked every setting and ran benchmark a 3 times getting 2.25 each time, I would expect a consistent performance though from a new machine with only games and launchers installed.
I would just check task manager and google any processes you are unsure about and that should confirm if it’s essential or bloatware running.

You will see certain gains in doing what you've done, just not in speed of the game processing.
The benchmarks would suggest otherwise, I’m not talking about a few seconds that could be explained by other factors. Benchmark A saw an improvement of 24 seconds and B was 3m21s. I saw an instant improvement on all games and general performance of the laptop after the ram upgrade but those gains must be explained by something else?
any suggestions other than the blanket statement that over the thousands of laptop and desktop configurations 8gb of ram in any format is more than enough?

It won't improve processing speed in FM - this has already been confirmed by the devs on this very thread.
So can a dev confirm that going from single channel 8gb ram to dual channel 16gb ram has 0 effect cos if so I just bought some magic ram

No, 8GB extra RAM will not improve processing speed. It will enable you to have more programs running at once and so drastically reduce the possibility of getting an out of memory error.
Although 8GB RAM would be seen as sub-optimal, you can still get by on 8GB RAM for most daily applications.
I saw massive gains going from 8gb to 16gb, windows 10 computers use 40% of 8gb just in idle leaving just over 4gb to run the game, definitely not enough these days.
is the 8gb single or dual channel? As in 1 stick or 2 x 4gb? I think there’s a few different factors which means you shouldn’t automatically dismiss a ram upgrade as having no impact on processing times.
im definitely not saying you will 100% see massive gains however it’s definitely worth researching because there’s also a chance you will see an improvement.

Genuinely I find that surprising if all you're running is FM. Be interesting to see if it's just yourself or if it's the same for everyone.
The difference could be attributed to less latency and the dual channels
Just want to be sure that's all before everyone runs out to to get larger RAM expecting a 30% performance boost
Yeah I get you that’s why I explained the issue with ryzen underperforming in single channel so not everyone expects the same boost.
Like you suggest a larger data set would be ideal but all I can say is it’s a new laptop, I have done 0 to it other than keep up to date with bios and drivers and then replaced the ram.
ive seen a boost on every game I play but as that is FPS increases and stability it’s a little hard to compare to fm21 with the processing times.

I guess the best way to test this is for one of the guys on this thread to take out a stick of ram and test the difference
The difference between 8gb and 16gb? I already did that the differences were huge

Yeah I don't disagree with you.. I don't think we are really understanding each other - I am talking about a cost / return perspective
Would depend on what you were starting with I suppose I just upgraded mine and posted on the benchmark thread, for £70 of new ram I’d say the gains were wholly worth it!

Type: Laptop
Model: ASUS TUF FA506IU
CPU model: Ryzen 5 4600h
CPU Base frequency: 3.0ghz
Turbo frequency: 4.0ghz
RAM: 8gb
RAM Clockspeed: 3200mhz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660ti - 6gb
Graphics: very high
Storage: ssd
Benchmark A: 2:49
Benchmark B: 14:07
New laptop purchased mainly for fm21 and I’d love some feedback from more technically minded people if those are good times for the system and if I could potentially get better for the price (£650)
Looking to upgrade the RAM to 16gb but unsure if this will make much (if any) difference?
Recently upgraded the ram to dual memory 16gb (2x8gb), same speed at 3200MHz and cl from 22 originally to 20 now and the benchmark a results were interesting.
Benchmark a - 2.25
Benchmark b - 10.46
Benchmark c - 14.34
Benchmark d - 30.30 -
I generally see a lot of comments explaining that ram doesn’t have too much of a difference but I’d say 24 seconds and 3m21s is definitely a difference!
one thing worth bearing in mind is it seems ryzen cpu’s typically seem to underperform on single channel memory and this can be boosted a fair amount by upgrading the ram to dual channel.

Some players won’t recognise your promotion until the following season starts (pre season not first league game) so if you buy now you could end up paying higher wages to encourage players to move to a league below where you will be next season

Does anyone else find the problem just goes away after a few months? If I try talk to the player I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance he will take it badly, request transfers etc but if I just decline to talk to him I might have some players wanting to discuss it, I just ignore them too. After half a season to a season and a couple more trophies in the bag they are generally happy to sign a new contract despite not playing more games or me having done a single thing to try sort out the unhappiness.

It takes a while for the club reputation to match Barca, Madrid etc, I’ve had players get unsettled by clubs I’ve beat 3 years in a row in the champions league and the honest answer is until you have had 5-10 years of sustained success and basically winning the champions league every season than the traditional biggest clubs will always be more appealing. I generally just make sure I have no release clauses and ask for the biggest amount of money I can + 40% of next sale usually scares them off. They can keep coming back with bigger and bigger bids though so just be wary if you aren’t a huge club the chairman can always overrule and accept a big bid.
If the player becomes unhappy just promise them silverware or more money if they get even more unhappy just win the champions league and it’s all forgotten.

Meanwhile in real life : https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/news/stadium-news-plans-for-new-5000-seat-kop-stand-take-step-forward
Seems real life Wrexham is far more ambitious in the Vanarama.
Didn’t Wrexham just get investment from Ryan Reynolds for a couple million? Next years game with Wrexham should be a bit better financially

Hmmm, I wonder what happens if I get promoted to the PL then, there are no stadiums in the vicinity I could move to.
In fm20 I had stadium problems with Hartlepool I had to play my initial champions league season at Middlesbrough then across 2 seasons of a new stadium being built I played at Sunderland for a season and Middlesbrough for a season in the end I had a new 26,000 seater stadium which was instantly too small and got into loads of debt with hardly any ticket money coming in, good times.
In terms of the game being over, depends what you want to achieve from the game, I normally take Hartlepool from vanarama to champions league glory and it’s normally tough in terms of investment until you start winning major trophies unless you’re lucky enough to get a takeover.

You said it doesnt matter if he doesnt get good ratings but you know he is playing good games. My problem is that you have to watch those games to know if he is your best player on the pitch, because ratings dont tell you the same story.
And I know what you mean, I see my DLP doing everything on the pitch...just to have a worse rating than the set piece taker lol
And yes defensive midfielders dont win ballon d'Or because their stats are not sexy at all. Still the ratings system is not about stats only, its about how well you play the position (SI said that they worked on it for fm 21). And since they dont have sexy stats, you NEED ratings to help.
Again it was not a problem in fm20, my dlp-d had better ratings (especially if we didnt score) because of how well he passes
On fm20 I won world player of the year 3 times in a row with Camavinga, he regularly finished the season with over an 8.0 rating and 1 in 2 goal contribution (g/a) so they maybe don’t win it in real life but they are definitely a whole lot worse this season along with the wide positions, I have trincao on loan from Barca playing amr with 35 goals and assists in 30 games, average rating? 7.1
First season in the premier league with Middlesbrough I’m top of the league with 3 games to go I have 9 players on average ratings on over 7 my goalkeeper is 7.2 and 2 strikers 7.3 so it’s definitely quite hard to understand.

I have played 3 saves where Spurs sack Mourinho after 10/12 games because Mourinhos tactics don't work with the match engine, Maybe similar at Leicester, They have struggled on my saves too
Just checked the most recent game I’m on, Gordon Strachan is manager. I’m a bit less shocked at the relegation now

I’ve played 3 save games now and Leicester have been relegated in the 2nd season every game!
Just wondering if anyone else had this on their game as every time I look at their squad I wonder how they go down.1 -

I've had a number of instances where I've sold a player and as part of the deal I have to still pay part of the wages of the player being sold. Firstly, does this really happen in real life as it's absolutely frustrating, but even more so is that fact I've never seen it work the other way round, when buying a transfer listed player. In other words, if I buy a player, I have no option to ask the selling team to contribute to the wages even though they want to get rid of that player.
Can some please enlighten me as to why this feature is in the game and if I am missing a trick in getting the selling team to contribute to wages?
When you make an offer to the club for the player there’s an option for selling team wage contribution under “additional clauses” with a maximum of maybe 40/50%. It’s usually accepted if it’s a high earner on the transfer list.
I wouldn’t even consider buying a player from a big club without this being included as the player will generally not take a huge pay cut to join a “lesser” team.

Having problems with sizing the screens can you help? For some reason the player profiles wont allow me to display faces and player information. The first photo is with 85% zoom out which is what works for me usually and the second is with 50% which is way too small to read.
Anyone know why this might be doing that? or ways to fix it?
I was having similar problems, check the windows scaling settings under display settings on your pc/laptop. Mine was set to 125%, change that to 100% and the game zoom settings at 100% and all skins should show up fine.

Skins need to go into the Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2021\skins\ folder not the graphics folder, you also need to make sure you haven't extracted the skin into a sub folder there are step-by-step instructions with images showing an example of how it should look here:
Thanks for your help, feel like a right idiot now haha! In my defence the instructions on footballmanagerstories (found via google) says to put in skins inside graphics.
either way it’s showing up now thanks again

Make sure you have re-installed the skin into the correct location (for example not put it into a sub-folder), if it is in the correct place then try deleting your cache files to ensure any trace of the old broken version has been removed;
extracted the zip file to graphics/skins and it all shows ok, when I load it onto the game it creates a skins file with a config file in football manager 2021 file same as it did the first time except now it only ever shows the default skin in the drop down box, I’ve cleared the cache, ticked unticked the right boxes 100 times over at this point!
I don’t understand how the problem persists on a fresh install of the game ( I made sure to delete all fm21 files on the system after the steam uninstall)
all I did was add the match score area panel to the tcs 1.1 skin and now I’m unable to add any skin at all

I'm on the same as you, what do you think is not showing properly?
It’s ok now I just persevered with 100%, bit of eye strain and a few headaches later and it’s all good

I tried using this with the tcs 1.1 skin (with added colour top bar) and it must be conflicting with something I ended up with a changed top bar, club badges but no team names.
spent a good few hours last night trying different things only to decide to delete the skin, download again and start over but now fm21 isn’t recognising the skin!! Any ideas before I re install the full game?I did manage to add the player face widget with no issues it just seems adding edited files to a skin is where my technical expertise is maxed out haha

It’s getting really annoying now! I could have swore it wasn’t happening for a while and maybe came back after the latest update?
On 23/12/2020 at 17:55, vacuumcat said:I get this after most goals.
If I go to tactics and then cancel it will remove the pop up
Best thing to do but occasionally I forget then see a goal has been scored, get angry I’ve conceded again before I realise that was the guy who scored 15 minutes ago and it was actually my team scoring this time!

So nobody else is playing on a 15.6” laptop and having scaling issues? I swear this is driving me crazy it’s the only game that has an issue with windows being set to 125% scaling and if I change to 100 I need a telescope to read some of the writing and just becomes a pain and end up skipping stuff

cant get u-23 team in fm 21 pls help
in Football Manager General Discussion

If it’s anything like fm20 I wouldn’t even bother, I got an u23 team created on 2 or 3 saves and they never got an invite to play in the league, just played friendlies every season and awful for player development with 0 competitive matches. Hoping it’s fixed for 21 when I start my Hartlepool save with the last update.
