  1. Hi,

I am fairly new to using the editor. How can I edit grant payments for clubs?

I used the editor to move Salisbury FC up into Vanarama National League South so that they become playable (swapped them with Hungerford Town). But I've noticed that Salisbury and one or two other clubs, like Weymouth, receive no grant money; meanwhile, all the other clubs receive £9750 monthly. That is the kind of cash that Salibsury desperately needs!

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Hi,

A noob question, but if and when the next FM 2020 patch/update comes out, will it affect my current save? For example, there's currently a bug which removes all work permit rules after Brexit happens for English League Two and above (resulting in all the clubs in League Two and above becoming increasingly populated over time with random street kids from Bolivia and the Philippines and so on). If this bug gets patched next patch, will the work permit rules be reinstated in my current save? Or will I need to start a new save entirely?

    Thanks for help.

  3. Using in-game editor,

    • I set all of a player's attributes to 10 and made him natural (20) in striker position and nothing (1) in every other position. I set his CA to the RCA of 63. The assistant manager gave him 2.5 stars and 'Fringe player'.
    • Then, keeping everything else the same, I made him natural (20) additionally in two other positions, left attacking midfield and right attacking midfield. I set his CA to the RCA of 69. The assistant manager gave him 3.5 stars and 'Regular player'.

If I have two identical players apart from the fact that one of them is a natural in just the striker position and the other is a natural in striker, left attacking midfield, and right attacking midfield, then even though they will both be equal in their performance as strikers, my assistant manager will rate the one who is a natural in the three positions more highly than the one who is a natural in just one position - so, even if I never ever decide to play the versatile player in any other position than striker, he will be rated more highly than the other player simply due to this versatility?

    Have I understood this correctly?

This point leads onto this phenomenon that I have found in my latest save, whereby one of my strikers who is actually slightly better than another striker is actually lower rated than the other striker simply because the other striker is more versatile and can play the attacking midfield too.

I loaded up an old save to play around in the editor and have uploaded an image to illustrate my point. I have an assistant manager with 'Excellent knowledge' on my players and set 20 for both judging ability and judging potential. I set two players to have 5 left foot strength and 20 right foot strength. I set them to have 10 for all attributes, except the first player (David Ijaha) has 11 for certain key attributes for an advanced forward. Then, the first player is set to be natural only as striker, but the second player (Danny Mills) is natural not only as striker but as attacking midfield too. I then set their CAs to correspond to their RCAs. The result is shown in the image. Look at the red circled bit at the very bottom.

I'm being told by my assistant manager that the second player (Danny Mills) is actually a better striker with 3.5 stars than the first player (David Ijaha) with 3 stars?!?!?! What is this?!?!? David Ijaha is clearly the better suited to the striker position. He has slightly higher attributes than Danny Mills. Is this a flaw in the rating system? It seems like stars for a certain specific position, e.g. striker, will be misleadingly skewed based on a player's ability to play in other positions. Players who can play in multiple positions will be unfairly considered better than they really are in a certain specific position relative to players who can only play in one certain specific position. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

  4. Hi,

I have recently started to question the effectiveness of training sessions that train many attributes, namely the 'Overall' or 'Outfield' training sessions, at least at the league level I am playing at (National League).

I suppose I can understand world-class players in the Premier League benefiting from it, i.e. those players who have green/16-20 for almost every attribute and want to keep all those attributes at healthy levels, or young world-class players who have the potential to have green/16-20 for almost every attribute and thus want to train up all their attributes to those levels.

But, for all the players that I am dealing with way down at National League, doesn't it make sense to try to get them, wherever possible, to spend what precious little current/potential ability they possess to invest in just the relevant attributes for their position/role, thus to make them the best possible at that position/role rather than average/mediocre at many position/roles?

It's a bit like considering, for example, I have a National League central defender who will never have the ability to play in League One but I might as well at least train him up to be a really good No-Nonsense Central Defender (training a few specific attributes) rather than train him to be a mediocre Libero (training many attributes with 'Overall' or 'Outfield'), right? Does this make sense? Isn't it a waste of their very limited potential ability spending it on improving all attributes rather than just improving a few relevant ones? Do you think I should stop with the Overall and Outfield training in National League?

I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks! :D

  5. No, I can't see anything that implies they're registered as players too (normally you would see 'player attributes' and 'staff attributes' under the overview tab right? I don't see that).

I suppose it must be a bug then? I checked their details in the In-Game Editor just now and it says £0 under wage and all the settings are staff settings (no player settings available to edit, like appearance fee).

Good question would like too now this also. And how do you feel about the assistants feedback on individual training he always says that my players should not train on what I choose because ”thats not a weakness in his game anymore”.

Even thou they have weak attributes in those certain areas.

Yeah, quite annoying. I take a lot of what they say with a pinch of salt.

I actually logged on to ask a question about additional focus. I was going to ask what the drawbacks were from setting an additional focus

Haha yes the same as my question.

  7. Hi,

In training, when you set a player's additional focus to 'None', you have the advantage of reducing his workload and thus reducing his injury risk. Are there any other advantages to setting a player's additional focus to 'None'?

For example, perhaps it gives him more time to work on training his position (so he learns the position faster)? Or maybe it gives him more time in team training (so team training is more effective for him)? Does anyone know if any of these things are true? Or is the only advantage of not setting an additional focus literally just to reduce his workload?

    Thanks for any help.

  8. Hi,

I am a new player and have been reading Guide to FM (https://www.guidetofm.com). I have searched the forums for an answer to this, but still cannot understand the issue ofhow the current ability mechanic affects match performance vs. how the attributes mechanic affects match performance. I'll write my rough understanding of the two mechanics below and then provide an example leading to my question.

    My understanding of current ability

A player's current ability is a hidden number set between 0 and 200, which is distributed to each attribute on a weighted basis depending on the importance of that attribute to the player's assigned role and duty. Higher current ability leads to better match performance in all areas.

    My understanding of attributes

A player's attribute is a visible number set between 1 and 20. A player's performance in different areas is affected by his attributes and various combinations of attributes. Higher attributes lead to better match performance in the specific corresponding area (e.g. Dribbling).

    Example:

    • A player has 84 current ability. He also has a Dribbling attribute of 3.
    • Let's say we assign him to Wing-Back (Defend). For this role and duty, Dribbling is considered important (highlighted blue on the profile screen).
    • Therefore, let's say quite a lot of current ability is thus distributed to Dribbling, e.g. Dribbling receives 10 out of the 84 current ability available.
    • Let's say we now re-assign him to Full-Back (Defend). For this role and duty, Dribbling is not considered important (neither highlighted as blue nor grey).
    • Therefore, let's say not so much current ability is thus distributed to Dribbling, e.g. Dribbling receives 1 out of the 84 current ability available.

    Question:

So, how is a player's dribbling performance on the pitch affected by the two mechanics of current ability and attributes? We can see with a Dribbling attribute of 3, he is pretty bad at dribbling and this should be reflected in poor dribbling performance on the pitch. But, due to the hidden current ability mechanic, does assigning him as Wing-Back (Defend) actually make his dribbling performance better than it would be otherwise?

    Thanks for any help.
