  1. I don't know, son... They certainly made a list of all the things that were working horribly in 20, and said "Why my dear gentlemen, of course it will be much more sophisticated this time, the improvement in quality will be astounding, I can assure you!", but excuse me for not believing they have managed to fix every one of these problems just like that...

After all this time, not even a good beta would convince me, I'll wait for next March's version to decide, thank you very much...

The ME blog has perfectly captured the issues with the FM20 match engine - especially central play, 1v1s, attacking movement.

Would have been a big problem if it didn't, the forum is full of months' worth of feedback about these issues... Saying "yeh it'll work" is nothing.

  2. Why  do players retire at the age of 27/28, after being without a club for a single season??? 3 players on my shortlist retired in march, not a long time before teams would start hiring people for the new season.

One of them was supposed to me my new starting GK, one of them my new starting towering DC. They knew there was at least one team interested in them, and of course there is no option to try and talk them out of their choice, because why would there be any useful conversation options? Oh, I'm sorry, I meant one besides the "Praise training" option which you have to laboriously visit periodically. Oh, and maybe a warning that people on my shortlist are planning to retire? Nah.

I've promised it 2 or 3 times this year already, but now I am done with this game for real, every single aspect gets ruined by something, nothing brings you joy while you are trudging through this collection of chores called a manager game. Team building was the last thing that I was moderately enjoying, now all the time I've spent on planning the next offseason was for nothing.

  3. :DDDDDD Of course I wasn't really done.

So, in the middle of an overachieving season with a great team morale, we lost our previous game because of some of the usual bullcrap, so early in the next week morale was in the greenish-yellow territories.

I wasn't gonna do a team meeting, 'cause we had one 2 weeks ago. My plan was to wait until matchday, and use the "praise conduct" lie option on some of my key players to help things a bit. Also, Tuesday, the board offered a new contract for me, and I accepted it. Since I have an excellent support of the players, I was hoping the game has a mechanic where the beloved coach's new contract will boost morale.

Instead by Friday, the whole team's morale was Very Poor, or Abysmal.

I had no happiness-reducing training scheduled, nothing else happened during that week.

It saddens me so much that one of the favourite games of my childhood is such an absolutely hopeless, unwilling-to-die farce now...

  4. so, apparently, I've given up on this game 2 days before 2.4, so came back, and it is different, less infuriating. but still not significantly better

a shot from 26 meters is still about as dangerous as a shot, or a header from 6

and after watching that boring gameplay for an hour, you grind out a 1-1 in the cup against a team in a higher league. in the replay, you control the game, you take the lead, but you lose 2-1 because of a 90+ minute long shot

what do you think your rating is after a match like that? yep, a C-

there is just no fun to find in this game

edit: oh, almost forgot the best part: so, in the replay against the higher league team, we were controlling the play, had a load of shots, the opposition goalkeeper was having a career game, we absolutely should have won about 3-1, so after unluckily losing 2-1 in OT, my team talk option was a passionate "despite result, this was a good performance", which of course made everyone confused, and they switched off

there. is. just. no. fun. to. find. in. this. game.

Honestly you guys will never be happy lol

It was dull boring and negative me before now it's fun entertaining not perfect me you guys still complain I don't think Sigames will ever make you happy!

a counter-argument, please, instead of a "u stupid lol xd"

    fact #1: dribbles are overpowered

fact #2: in your video, there was nothing reminding anyone to "central play"

Following this thread can get you in to a spiral of negativity and probably the vast majority of players don't see the negatives as bad as some do here and don't post here.

I am enjoying this version, but feedback such as this gets drowned out here. There's only so many times you can shout you enjoy the version.

Is it perfect? No, not to me, but it's more than good enough. There can always be improvements and maybe SI could have done better this version on release (annual releases aren't that groundbreaking).

I am using a tactic loosely based on Mr U Rosler's (find it in the tactics forum here) which suits how I like my teams to play and I'm not really seeing the ME problems as bad as some might be.

Now, see, this is the weird thing about it.

    • With the demo, I wasn't experiencing the "missed chances" issue. With the full game (same game version), in the same league, at a different team, with slightly better players, I do.
    • Neither with the demo, nor with the full game do I experience the "long balls over the top" issue, but a lot of the others do. Enough of them for me to believe that it's not always because of overly aggressive tactics.
    • Neither with the demo, nor with the full game do I experience the "missed penalties" issue, but a lot of people do.
    • I do experience most of the often mentioned other issues though.

I suppose the real problem could be with failing to make things work realistically  at all levels of world football, instead of a generic "THE ME IS BROKEN, HURR-DURR" issue.

I think there are –  broadly speaking – two kinds of FM players:

    • The ones who tinker with everything, who invest a lot of time into managing every minutae detail, and when you do that, you don't expect "more than good enough", because that's not enough of a payout. You expect every detail to have an (at least) slightly meaningful effect, just how it should work in complex strategy games.
    • And the ones who use other people's tactics. If what you put in wasn't entirely your work, you will be satisfied with getting back less.
  7. it's just another one of those things where some experience an extreme, and others a perfectly normal balance, and it doesn't even appear to be related to player levels.

For example, after one and a half Vanarama regional seasons, my penalty ratio seemed fine. Now compare that with others in the best leagues who see a low conversion rate. It can't be the penalty taker's skill, is it the goalkeeper's skill?

Because I would imagine the hardest thing about balancing this game would be making it behave acceptable both with semi-pro teams, and with Liverpool.

  8. Okay. See you in March – if the feedback about the next patch is gonna be good enough. If not - don't worry, in maybe 3 years, I'll be weak enough to buy again.

Between defensive positioning, headers on both ends, central build-up, wing decision-making, offensive finishing, and long shots, there are just enough frustrating issues to turn the entire experience into an insufferable, pointless slog.

  9. I have to learn how to put this game down. All the yellow lines are headers that missed the goal.

Sure, it's Vanarama Regional, but from a player (#9) with Strength 12, Jumping Reach 14, and all the other relevant attributes around 10, you would expect some headers at least hitting the goal every once in a while.

    20200202143310_1.thumb.jpg.d217a765ae0011a705519c74c2a1dd1a.jpg

edit: sorry, I didn't mean ALL of them were headers, that one from #7 outside the box obviously wasn't for example, but my target man won 17/19 headers, and most of them were lobbed over the goal.
He scored his one goal with his foot, ofc.

  10. I lose one more point because of an 85th minute, 25 yard volley from a dogsh*t Vanarama Regional player, and I'm done

edit: 2 minutes later my poacher got a through ball, and hit the post, but the ball bounced back to him, so he hit the same post again :D

this game is borderline a joke

edit 2: oooh, and also, it's another occasion where some shots don't register, so they don't appear in the analysis view. those 2 woodworks are nowhere to be found.

when so many tiny things are not working, across so many areas, it ends up making every effort pointless. why should I bother with analysis if events are randomly omitted?

  11. I feel weird for starting a topic for such a tiny problem, but the only "Quick questions" topic I could find was the one for tactics and training, we should probably have a general one as well.

So, I'm beginning the 20/21 season managing Darlington in Vanarama North, a semi-pro team with part-time contracts. Took over the team in December of the first season, so this is my first off-season with them.

My issue is that whomever I'm trying to loan out (all part-time players, all of them on 1 year contracts, one of them on a 2 year contract), I can't include the "Can be recalled" option in the deal, regardless of how long do I set the loan to be. As a matter of fact, the only option not greyed out is "Can play for parent club reserves", but I wouldn't use the other ones anyway.

Am I right the assume that this is WAD, and the reason behind it is the rule that you can't recall players in the same transfer window they were loaned out in, but in Vanarama North, the transfer window is basically the entire season minus the last month?

I have my concerns, because somehow my players never went to holiday, there was automatically 2-weeks of "pre-season early" training scheduled after the previous season, followed by a few weeks of rest, and then the rest of the pre-season, so I'm worried that the game is confused what a "season" is. :D

    This.

This is how the game should work by default, much more realistic than an absolute numerical value.

The range of 5 points per colour looks spot on, just enough uncertainty to keep things interesting i.e. is Foden's passing 16 or 20?

Great work wkdsoul, SI please take note!

God, please no, don't encourage them.

It would be the same thing as when they removed the sliders, 'cause "it'S NoT reAliSTiC!!4"

I have the opposite problem, I'm almost entirely reliant on my striker when it comes to goals.

He's also had the golden boot for 3 out of 4 seasons.

TBF, I also had a different experience in this regard with the demo, even though it was the same version as the full game

slightly worse strikers were scoring way more consistently in the same leage

what is this game anymore, I can't even...
