I wouldn't say never but it should be a lot more difficult. Player like Traore could actually be successful in for example in a counter attacking system where his end product is an easy one as he gets behind a defence. Like the one tap-in he provides quite early in this video. Otherwise you can see that teams can quite effectively defend against him with simple doubling up and providing an end product looks difficult to him. On FM it's quite a bit different as player like this can quite comfortably leave 1-3 players just standing and put in a pinpointer inside the box. I think that wide play in general was well balanced in the previous builds but this newest one 18.2.1 has made it totally crazy.

Another thing to question is, is Adama really that good at dribbling? Or is he simply running into the spaces the opposite team allows? From the video alone, there are numerous clear instances of the teams simply forcing him into the wide areas, knowing his crossing is poor. Whenever he has to dribble through the center he often draws a foul or loses the ball, kind of indicating that his pace is the main contributor of his dribbling ability. Players with actual good dribbling ability and technique can manoeuvre through those tight areas rather than kicking it past the opponent then losing it. So maybe his dribbling & technique in game are too high?

There's one popular review arguing there'd be heavy demand for "less realistic results" even (presumably sides not losing if they have more possession and shots, even if it's Liverpool, or forwards not missing 70% of their big chances, even if it's Arsenal, and even if thanks to Opta we know that's precisely what they do).

About this point. I don't think the stats are a reliable measure of the game's reality, seeing as there are still dubious numbers for passing, crossing, km run, chances created etc, as well as dubious defensive and offensive play in general. If we input these numbers the game produces and are still getting the same scores and the same shot conversions as real life then logically it doesn't make sense.

No, we won't be making vast changes to allow completely unrealistic scenarios with little evidence behind them work better. The user has edited the footage in such a way that it's not really much use to us. Potentially he's had 100 chances there and shown us the 10 out of 90 he missed. We'd really need a pkm and game-worthy examples to look into this further. Thanks.

Alright, I understand the lack of changes this close to release, however wouldn't you agree that an attack force of messi, suarez, iniesta, rakitic, dembele, and busquets should be scoring 100 out of 100 times? And besides that don't some decisions seem off? Like Messi dribbling to the byline and whipping in a cross with his teammates in acres of space in the middle. Or being unable to find each other for simple pullbacks while being completely wide open. It just seems like regardless of the situation this shouldn't be the case for a team of Barcelona's calibre.

I did such in prior releases often, and whilst it resulted in a few interesting decisions, the scorelines still went up as far as 20s and 30s. Also early FM 2015, where defenses were easily overrun all the time with up to half a team not tracking back simply based on a pick in duty, every second attack a goal/decent opportunity. Still an interesting watch, this.

Did the actions seem similar in this video to your previous tests?

Hopefully not, as it is an entirely arbitrary "experiment" which you only ever see in training drills and hardly ever in real football. FM aims to simulate "normal" football, and 2 defenders against 6 attackers is not common enough for SI to expend much dev time modelling.

Yeah but the fact that it's a possibility in the game means that it should be accounted for. Also, it highlights a lot of fundamental flaws with both attacking and defensive actions. The attackers especially seem unable  to make the obviously right decisions and that is mostly on the M.E, not the situation, especially given that it's Barcelona.

  6. Unfortunately Conte's 3-4-3 is one of the formations I think is impossible to emulate in fm17, because of the wide midfielder/ winger defensive positioning issue. Chelsea defend in a 5-4-1 with the IF's hazard & pedro/ willian coming narrow to help out the 2 CM's, but in fm17 they stay wider in defense by default, and thus the midfield is constantly comically overrun.

However, I have been using this formation to great success in fm 15:

    SK(D)

    BPD(ST) --- BPD (D) --- BPD(ST)

    CWB(A)------DLP(S)-------BWM(S)--------CWB(A)

    IF(S)------CF(S)--------IF(S)

    Standard, fluid formation.

Team instructions: roam from positions, push higher up, work ball into box, prevent short gk distribution.

    Player instructions:

SK(D): more risky passes, distribute to centerbacks.

BPD(ST): Close down much more, dribble more

BPD(D): Mark tighter, dribble more. (Your fastest cb should be played here)

CWB(A): Close down more, tackle harder, more risky passes

    DLP(S): None

BWM(S): hold position, more risky passes

IF(s): Close down more, sit narrower, roam from position

CF(s): Close down more, run wide with ball.

This setup plays exactly like conte's 3-4-3 but you have to remember that just like conte, you need to be flexible with TI's and PI's. For instance, if the 2 Cm's are getting isolated in attack, change CF to DLF, DLP to AP, and change one IF to attack, and the corresponding Wingback to support. Or drop the d-line if trying to counter/ playing a stronger opponent. Or change certain roles. ie. bwm to bbm, IF(s) to IF(a), etc to exploit space on the pitch. In short, remember that this is a very flexible formation. It can counter or control space very well, but PI's and TI's must be adjusted accordingly within each match. Also remember that it doesn't work control the midfield effectively on fm17, and I doubt any formation with wide attackers & wingbacks will.
