Talking in the present, and not ancient history, im with you on this. We care what is being done now, in this moment, not historically when the devs were much much more transparent and open to critique and actively engaging with the loyal playerbase. Historically, the games bugs were rectified and the devs more engaged with the community in terms of getting them fixed. (Not saying they are not working as hard as they can), but 'historically' means nothing when we have been given what we have been given this year, and the year previous etc etc in terms of bugs, data issues, issues that have been reported constantly again and again and again, and simply have not been fixed. I won't engage in this topic as to not get this thread hijacked, but I needed to let this out of my chest.

I think this is a big issue and SI need to address it or start to lose some members of the community.  The bug reporting is something I gave up on a fair while ago, it might be they work on them but a lack of communication and their 'update system' being so unhelpful puts me off contributing.

In recent years there does seem to be a bit of a culture at SI that isn't quite what it was.  I think we have heard a lot from Miles relatively recently about acknowledging mistakes and what they plan to do to rectify them but their actions are what I base my opinions on and I think they obviously have issues whether that is from the top or a disconnect with people below senior management I don't know.

Like in most cases it is wise to also look at what they do and do well but I now view FM features a little bit like one of my other posts, dog s*** on dog s*** and the SI office walking around blindly saying 'what's that smell'!  I appreciate they have their own bosses (Sega) to please but if you continue to ram poorly designed and implementable features on a game it starts to erode the really good parts of it.  It is like having a finely polished and honed engine then chucking loads of oil on it saying 'well engines need oil right'!  They do but the right quality and the right amount!!!!!

What do people really want or think is happening?  I think SI are quite open about wanting to be told what's wrong so they can go and fix it, but after that, what do people want?  Constant daily posts of "we're looking"?  With the best will in the world, reporting an issue is probably about 5% of getting it fixed, and in some cases that's generous. Complex-looking things might end up being easy, simple-looking things might end up being too costly or difficult to fix to be viable.

I'm struggling to think of a way they could communicate without it descending into farce and being ruined by a small minority.  A full roadmap and insight into the nitty-gritty would hold value for me, but I expect that would be ammunition for certain people to chuck coal into the hype-train engine so they can complain later when it doesn't meet their completely made-up expectations.  Timelines would be an absolutely mental thing for them to communicate for obvious reasons.  As a developer myself, I'd far rather they spent their attentions actually working to fix things than feel they needed to coddle people who need them to throw out comments just to show they're not sitting twiddling their thumbs. And those people probably wouldn't be happy then anyway.

I think they are open about bugs because the community does a fair part of their work!  When you look at the bugs reporting forum all you seem to get is 'under review' for months and months.  It may be that is the case but some people go to a fair amount of effort to make the game better and provide a range of data/evidence so a bit of a better system or focus on the feedback might be appreciated by some.  I think this games USP is the community, people are passionate about the game (some too much) and that does bring some unrealistic expectations but the series has been stagnant for a while and adding more 'new features' that don't work well, or 'press conferences' that are as unrealistic as you can possibly get (and better to make up in your head) for me is not the way forward.

Can we please have some work done on 'only commentary viewing'?

The boxes blocking the screen and the view of the pitch/stadium should be customizable, i.e. removeable, resized, etc.  They block too much of the screen for my liking.  Also can we please have the commentary box bigger?  It really is too small and it seems this area of the game (albeit I assume not many play this way) has been overlooked.

    Thanks!

UPDATE:  Just found out how to get rid of the boxes via the preferences function but SI can we please have the commentary box size increased still and the 'confirm changes' button bigger as well as easy to miss.

  4. I use commentary only for matches, is there any way to get rid of the cumbersome boxes that block out the view of the pitch, i.e. the 'match stats', 'dugout', 'touchline tablet', etc?

They are annoying and I just want to see the pitch and the stadium and have the text underneath as normal.  Is this possible in FM21 as I can't see any easy option to get rid of them?

    Thanks

hi TFF, by any chance have you updated the Cerber tactic to version V5?
I ask you because in the set piece video I see the Cerber V5 tactic selected.
in case where can I find it?

On page 77 the below has been added, TFF has indicated he isn't going to add a download we would have to do it ourselves :

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Just for you guys

The Cerber V4 with removing "Short Passing" PI from the WBL/WBR positions and the new attacking free-kick setup

Tell me if i have forgot something or do something wrong and sorry for my english... :P

I just checked my salary and it is lower than my head physio, chief scout, and assistant manager. We have a balance of 44 million, are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, have already made 21 million of profit this season, and the board is willing to give me a raise to 121 thousand after 5 successful seasons with the club. That would be the second-lowest manager salary in our league and less than 20% of the top manager salary. It's so insulting that I'm actually going to change clubs now out of virtual spite.

I feel your pain, I was at Man Utd and Real Madrid, over a few seasons after joining the clubs with only £20-30 million in the bank I had helped them get up to over £500 million via player sales, good buys, competition money due to successes, etc.  Yet every time they tried to negotiate a new contract with me it was far lower than most players were on and no flexibility was given to changing the amount offered even by the smallest of margins (Real Madrid refused me even a £1 increase in salary and no % increase per year even though we were the richest club in the world).  I pretty much follow your logic in that I eventually leave as I am fed up with what 'in my head' I perceive as disrespect.

Obviously it is 'only a game' but when SI seem to focus on so many different small factors that are irrelevant to gameplay (for me) they can't get the manager contracts right is quite bemusing especially as I haven't noticed this problem or the degree of it until FM20.

i completely agree with you pw75.

I have the same siutation \ experience on one of my saves and it really really bugs me that the games been developed in so many ways but i kinda feel like the manager contracts was forgotten about.

Another funny but super annoying aspect is when you leave a club and have been super successful, won throphies, your stats and reputation in the game is great but then your new club want to offer you peanuts?!?....like all you have done before counts for nothing.
Its like being an apprentice on bad wages, then you progess, salary goes up, your doing well....change company and then your offered apprentice wages again :(

Is there a way we can make a recommendation \ suggestion to Sports Interactive to update the game with an improvement in this area?

Yeah trying to immerse yourself in the game when you are by and far the most successful manager around yet your current team offers you a contract no-where near acceptable with no negotiation flexibility (then when you leave they appoint someone with a far worse record on more than you were on) or a new club approach you and again offer you a wage that isn't to the standard you are at but give no negotiation flexibility and then again appoint someone with a far worse record but on more money than they ever offered you.

I appreciate it isn't a gamebreaker for most but the immersion over a long career is lost and previous FM versions never had this problem.  Just frustrating and quite a basic area you would expect a fix could easily be applied (especially as in my most recent save Mark Warburton became the England manager after Championship mediocrity so its not like manager appointments are exactly perfect)!

  8. I'm finding Cerber v3 and Shield Wall v1 very effective at the moment.

It might be that as time has gone and I have now been promoted to Man Utd manager it has got easier due to the better players I have but I do feel these two tactics with the current ME offer a really good return (currently with MUFC got a 77% win ratio and coming towards the end of the season).

I would say that Fury v1 is very hit and miss for me though.  I normally seem to increase the likelihood of conceding far higher than scoring so I use it rarely and only if desperate.

Thanks for all the work TFF as this version of FM has been a bit of a struggle in finding the right tactics to offer very good regular returns.

  9. Got to say for me Raider v4 from the start, Phoenix v4 if behind, and time wasting tactic if ahead was just starting to give me good results.

Think I'm gong to stay with the above as before that my results were pants!  Be interesting to see the new tactics and how they fare though.

And I heard the lad was being punished to relegation zone using Punisher do you recon that maybe punisher is a less suitable tactic for spurs?

Anyhow decided to start a new Stuttgart save after..2 weeks ish of no football manager?

Will see how it goes. Will cut to the chase if doesn't go so smooth!

Spurs are now 15th, onwards and upwards!

Using Raider v4 and better results and feel of a game so far.

Guys, I've added tactics ranking to the OP so far it looks like this:

    The tactics ranking:

    1) Punisher V1/Pyromancer V1

    2) Raider V1

    3) Phoenix - Defense

    4) Phoenix - Attack

TFF are you absolutely sure Punisher/Pyromancer are the best ranked?

I've used your tactics for the last few years and although this FM version has been very up and down with consistency of tactics I've managed to overachieve with the teams I have managed.  Destroyer v3 was a decent tactic and worked relatively well but as mentioned before Punisher v1 has been absolutely terrible for my Spurs team (W1, D7, L7).  My team fits the tactics reasonably well and its not a bad squad but I find with Punisher v1 I might have 8 or 9 shots per game whereas with Destroyer v3 it was 15-25+.

Maybe its just worked that way for me but it feels like these newer tactics are massively weaker.  Not sure how others are finding them!

  12. Personally I can't use Destroyer v1 as it just wasn't working at all for me so I've come off the beta and back with raptor v4 which has decent (ish) results for me.

Definitely finding this version much more difficult to find any rhythm or consistency and I think from what i have seen it is more about 'over-achieving' rather than 'demolishing' teams/leagues you are in.  Hope any new versions are able to show a bit more consistency especially if you aren't one of the big teams.

  13. Hi TFF

I had very good results with Raptor with each version when released in general but did struggle a bit away from home and had patches where my form was a bit dodgy.

Only played the last few games with Raptor v4, won 3 and lost 1 and got Derby promoted from the Championship in 2020/21 as runners up when predicted to finish 11th and finished 15th the season before.  Early days with v4 but it did seem better to me so thanks again for all your work on the tactics and making it easier for people like me to enjoy the game.

  14. Just a quick update to say that Raptor for me is the closest I have come on FM20 to Gladiator that you had for FM19 TFF results wise.

It has given me a bit more love for FM20 as the tactic is great and I am having some very good results overall (9 games into the Championship and 1st with Derby County after finishing 15th season before).  Other thing I would say is that this tactic, unlike all others I tried, actually gets the strikers scoring!

    Thanks TFF.

Could you please give me some example of such "success" namely throphees won by the people and details as to which team and what season they have succeeded?

I think the tactics tables can be very misleading, I used the FM Base table and the top two tactics on there and both were very disappointing whereas (so far) using Raptor (and Zeus v5 before it) I have had far better results.

    Hi mate,

I would suggest going for Raptor instead Zeus.

There are many obvious why Raptor can't be as efficient as Gladiator was in FM19 but for me Raptor shows the best efficiency that I've managed to get so far in FM20.

Btw, guys the more I test, the more confirmation I get that Raptor is more efficient than Zeus.

Cheers mate played Zeus for a few games with decent results but now switched to Raptor for last game of season as Derby and we beat Birmingham City 4-0 away. Gonna keep with Raptor and hope it gives me some enjoyment and some decent success or at least over achievement!

  17. Hi TFF

Just wanted to say that you made FM19 for me and I loved the Gladiator tactic as I had about a 70% win ratio with it with a variety of teams.

I haven't found any tactic for FM20 that is anywhere near effective but I'm gonna give Zeus a try and hope it makes this game a bit more playable for me.

In relation to the 'controversy' I can only make my own personal comments which are that you made a mistake, you acknowledged it, hopefully have learnt from it and we all move on.  No-one died and this world should be about forgiveness and a measured response which from SI appears to have occurred so fair play to them.

    Keep up the good work.
