  1. Hi. I'm looking for a tactic for AC MIlan which will get the best out of a aging and slow moving Zlatan. I usually play gegenpressing or tiki-taka type formations, but don't think that will suit a forward lacking pace and teamwork. I don't have any experience of playing target men type formations so at a loss on how to go about building around him.

Idealy this would be a pretty attacking formation, and two up front would be fun - but also open to something based on wide forwards since Milan have options there.

he was there for a year in his youth, find me another player for PSG who isnt currently in their squad and ill happily put him into Monaco.

Well i would swap him with Layvin Kurzawa who you have now put back at Monaco if you can't find a better legend. Kurzawa is at PSG now and has at least made some appearances for them so is a better fit than Evra who never made it as a senior at PSG.

Also, you might want to look at upping the potential of Antognoni and Cervato at Fiorentina. Both are regarded as some of the best ever italians in their position but are both at 175 PA.

    Well Spotted.

During the course of doing the database I came across a bug with the original Fiorentina which I was unable to resolve.

For some very strange reason they had a full squad, but none of the players were in the squad. So i did a search for all the players contracted to Fiorentina and it came up that there were lots of players, and yet they did not show in the squad screen, only 2 or 3. so in loading up the game, i found that they had no players and despite have many players contracted to them.

Unfortunately this was unacceptable. Therefore i recreated them exactly the same as the original Fiorentina. and then deleted the original one. This solved the problem.

I was not about to let the bug get in the way of making progress with the database.

Cool. Certainly the lesser of two evils then.

BTW - just spotted that Patrice Evra is at PSG, but he never played there as far as I know. Should be Monaco.

    Hi Bittah,

As you know I recoded the whole game and we had all these debates out in 2014

I have a totally different way of viewing the ratings system to SI.

However i am always willing to listen... I don't think any player is overpowered based on my ratings system... however no-one is perfect especially in a database of this size.

You have to take into consideration that every single player is heavily researched before a rating and stat is given and unlike some players in the normal game, no player that I have coded is left to chance...

Ivan Campo was a great player and imo a 20 for passing... now you have to bear in mind that there is more than one stat for each player and the stats must be balanced within a certain current ability and therefore you can't be exact, but you can be as realistic as possible and there are so many factors that must be taken into consideration before applying each stat to a player.

I don't create a player to suit a certain role, I dont create a player based on who they played for and how much they achieved in their careers, as there are many players in the case of ivan campo who might not have had the luck to be at the right at the right time and we all know how many titles shearer would have won had he gone to united. campo mate was a great player.

I create the players only after heavily researching them and i give the stat as realistic as possible based on my ratings system which i created, and in 2014 i explained this and I explained that I believe the players is a bigger difference in the top 10 per cent, than in the 10 per cent below that and below that....

My ratings system is mathematically  based for ability and potential and i prefer it to the ratings system in the normal game.

I have raised Inzaghis potential ability slightly and he is now 22 instead of 24.

    I am leaving campo alone.

In terms friday, 180 is still 20 below the best possible 20, and in my opinion those 20 points are bigger than the 20 point that go down to 160..

so to give you an idea of my mind, 155-165 is more championship player.

180 is a good international player, so after researching friday, he had that ability mate, but where inzaghi has a massive adv is he got the lucky breaks, he has a much better personality, id be surprised if friday wasnt more of a liability than anything else.

You can t just base it on the career, there are many players unheard who were simply unbelievable because they just didnt have that career, but when i research i search everywhere and i find out everything or i dont create the player... and every player is created exactly as much as possible to the exact ability and potential of the player and they start again and this time maybe other players get the breaks instead and i try to be as fair as possible within my ratings system.

so the question i ask you, is the players in the normal game underrated? that is a matter of opinion...

i am happy with my version of the ratings and its mathematical system. :)

I know we had this debate in 2014 and in know you believe in the system you have  its your DB and with the work youve done it's definitely your call to make

without knowing your system, I still have to disagree with this. Regardless of how you've coded it, mathematically or otherwise, it's still ultimately a highly subjective call on what a players ability is - and no matter how you do it people will have differing views.

Personally though I do think that there might be an element of over romanticisation here.

Ivan Campo's stats put him at world class level - but he was never that. You say he didn't have the luck to be at the right place at the right time - but he was. He was at Real Madrid, but wasn't good enough to establish himself. As you say, 180 is a good international player - he wasn't that though as he only 4 caps testify to. His present stats suggest one of the best defenders of his era - but I have never seen anybody credibly claim that.

You can't compare him to Shearer - not only did he actually perform to an exceptional lever, the only reason he never made it to a "big" club is because he didn't want (though his move to then money bags Blackburn was hardly small time). It's well documented that Ferguson tried to sign him but got knocked back repeatedly.

Equally with Friday - he started off with big clubs but for whatever reason he couldn't make it there. He had the chance to prove himself but couldn't take it - whether that was due to attitude or ability I can't tell.

You our can argue he was capable of plying international football but we have know way of knowing if he could have replicated his Div 4 or 3 form there. It's one thing to impress in the lower leagues playing with relatively weak defenders and make things look easy - it's another to do it when faced with elite defenders.

When I raised Pippo Inzaghi, I wasn't saying he needed a bump - because I think 180 suits him. He was a legendary player - but he wasn't an all round player. He was a phenomenal goal scorer and penalty box player, and did a few things to the very highest level - but was otherwise limited.

But it one thing about Inzaghi is that we know he was tested at the very highest levels and passes with flying colours. It's ine thing to do it against a Division 4 defence - it's another to do it against the likes of the very best defences in what was then an extremely competitive Italian league with notorious defensive talents.

It's harder to score 10 goals in the premiership than it is to score 20 in Division 4, so just because he did it in the alter division doesn't mean he could have done it in the latter. The ste up is huge - ask Jamie Vardy. It took him time to adjust to the step ups in his career and his first season in the premiership was prett meh.

So if Friday was to thrive in the premiership or at international level he would have needed to step up his game - to learn how to compete against better, stronger, more disciplined and tactically aware defenders  - and do so on a one of basis. What he did in Division 3 wasn't good enough for division one (as it was then).

Perhaps he could have made the step up - but performing at that lower level isn't sufficient to say he was as good as top level internationals and European players.

If if you had given him a lower CA and the potential to get to the top, I would agree as it would be acknowleding that he was an unfulfilled talent with the potential to reach the top. Of course to realistically reflect him, he mental attributes would mean he would likely never reach that (much like the way Ravel Morrison never turns good in FM despite his potential).

  5. I know you have your own way of looking at these things, but are some of the U.K. Based players not a little over powered?

E.g. Ivan Campo has 180 CA/PA and 20 for passing? He was a good player for Bolton - but he still wasn't one of the top players in the league at that time. And he was mainly a squad player at Madrid, with only 4 caps for Spain (at a time when they weren't as strong as they have been in recent years).

Robin Friday had the same CA and PA as Pippo Inzaghi. While Friday might have been an very talented player, he was uncapped and played at 4th, 3rd and second division levels and even then his record comes nothing close to Inzaghi's (league, continental and international titles).

I realsie inzaghi wasnt wasn't an around player so his stats can only go so high, and not arguing he should be higher. Rather that a player untested at the highest levels and without an international recognition shouldn't be so high.

Perhaps a lower CA with a high PA to reflect his wasted potential.

  6. Love the daily updates the last few days. Nice to see a new team popping up.

One other bug I noticed was Edin Dzeko is back at Wolfsburg but his future transfer to Roma remains in place. Wolfsburg could definitely use him more than Roma!

The DB is understandably geared towards England but will be good to see the additional European teams done. Should make the DB more balanced and make the continental competitions more interesting.

  7. Just some further feedback on the latest update:

Steve Clarke is listed as the manager of Valencia - should be Paco Ayesteran (or Rafa Benetiz or Hector Cuper possibly)

Manuel Pablo from Deportivo has had his age reduced but is still set to retire at the end of the season. His stats could probably go up a bit too to reflect his prime.

David Albelda of Valencia has had his age reduced to 26 but is still listed as a non-player.

If I spot anything else will let you know.

    Hi mate,

I don't know, but I think what might be happening, is that when you load up my database in your editor somehow it is messing up the players, not your fault, this is a bug in the editor, The best thing to do is to send me the players you want to create and i'll do them for you...

It is going to save you time and stress. Otherwise I am not sure why that is happening, you should be able to load up the editor and create the players carefully.

There is obviously an issue with touching the editor.... so sorry about that, but the best thing i can do is offer to create the players you want... and put them on my list.

Well my plan was to try and do updated squads for some of the Spanish teams, as they are a bit under represented outside of the big two.

The plan was to do at least the following:

    Deportivo

    Valencia

    Atletico Madrid

    Sevilla

    Athletic Club

i know you have some players covered here, but not complete squads. I had planned on managing Spain but wanted to fill it out with legends a bit more to make it more competitive.

I realise that's not exactly a small task or something you can do too quickly.

    Hi mate,

I don't think it matter, when you enter the positions.... as long as it stays at 0, it shouldn't move from that as long as they are natural 20 in their real position or any other positions they may be natural in... however if your importing players in rather than creating them, it will just simply mess up alot of the positions which you will need to fix.

All i know is that once the player is in the editor, if you find he is natural in a position he shouldn't be you should set that to 0 again, and you will find it stays at 0 as long as he already has 20 in his real natural positions.

I don't know why it would show up as 0 and then have this as a natural position in the game because i have not found that at all in my experience and both pele does not have CB or jesus garay does not have striker in my database either.  I do know that centre backs not put in as a 20 it will auto put striker at 20.. it's a bug mate, not your fault, but you will need to either delete the database and reinstall my one, or go over the players you put in and fix the positions for the players affected....

Ok this is getting infuriating. I started again working off the update you posted last night  checked Pele and Garay on your DB and both have their correct positions set.

i started creating my own players again being careful to make sure I had positions set, going back every now and then to double check them after a while. All good.

loaded a game after a while and noticed the same thing was happening (again to Pele, Garay and maybe 150-300 others) - but worse I noticed their attributes had been corrupted as well (it had happened on the first attempt I did as well but hadn't noticed). For whatever reason their current ability is either being raised or lowered so the game has to make adjustments when loading a game. E.g. Garay had his CA lowered so his mental were destroyed when the game loads, Pele had his CA raised to 220 which also meant he didn't load right as the game had to bring him back down to 200).

These changes don't show on the editor unless I reload the DB. I looked back through the working saves I had made and the stat corruption seems to get progressively worse as I go.

Anybody any any ideas what's happening?

    Hi Bittah,

There is a bug in the Editor, if when you create a player, you do not put in his natural position (20) first then it will give the player 20 for defence, also if you put in a number below 20 for central defence first, it will also automatically make the player a natural attacker.

Therefore when I create a player now, I ensure that I put the natural position in first (20) and that stops the issue from happening. You may need to go back over players you have added to the database, if you go in there you will see that the number is not 0, but now 20, just simply remove it back to 0 to fix the issue. As long as they are 20 in their natural position, it won't try to give it 20 in defence or attack.

It is a pain i know, because i create the players in alot of detail and when i first started this project, i learned about this bug very quickly so I know that every player created does not have this issue.. i was hoping someone might fix it when the winter update came out but no one did.

It is with how you created the players because i know this from having experienced it while creating players myself.

When you say "enter the natural position first", do you mean immediately once it has been created and before putting in any other stats such as name?

In all cases I have put in the natural position as 20 - but usually after having done the general person details.

Also, this has showed up with some of our players like pele who now has CB as a natural position in addition to his attacking roles. I checked the DB though and he still has zero there. I have also seen the reverse pop in one of your players (Jesus Garay) who should be a cb but has striker listed.

I believe this is only happening on my DB (having added in my own players). I didn't notice it until i started adding players myself.

  11. I have been adding some players to the DB myself (though admittedly not at the same level of detail as you have).

When i start a game with my own updated DB however, i have noticed that some of the created players appear with CB set as a natural position, even though they have this set at 0 in the editor. This affects both the players i created and Fenech so i don't believe it should be with how i have created the players i have added.

Anybody know why this is happening?

  12. Thanks!

I have added leonardo to my list.

What would you prefer to see?

    1) Lots of little updates as I go along

    or

    2) 1 big massive update after some time.

Personally I would prefer the former approach (I.e. Lots of little updates) - at least initially to cover any bugs/errors that have crept in so we all don't have to go into the DB and make the same changes (e.g. The couple of Nationality issues, retirements etc identified above).

Particularly as I have been messing around with continental rules so would be great to get the update before I start proper!

  13. Hi Mate,

Welcome back and of course Burnley kept all their team.. I did miss Marcelo and i've now added him to my list.

I remember you helped me with the Burnley team back in 2014... many thanks your help with burnley was a great help.

One more to add would be Leonardo from Brazil's World Cup winning team of 1994, Sao Paul, AC Milan and PSG.

Fairly well regarded by fans of all three and a personal favourite of mine at Milan (though would be understandable to put him at São Paulo).

Is the update something you expect to release shortly or more longer term?

  14. yes that is intentional, the very best and fully developed players are worth about 20m now and it goes down in a very mathematical scale from there, so we did go back to a time when transfer fees and wages were cheaper and that is because this has to represent all the years since 1880 and also its much more fun, no point of a legends and stars game if you can't afford them. Also remember the flip side is that when you sell, you dont get as much either. It is the same internationally in the key countries in order to ensure equality around the main parts of the world where the legends and stars are congregated.. What i like is that you can buy players and afford them but also you can sell players too. The economy is booming and that is exactly what I tried to create and it has been successful... So i am pleased about that.

How do the transfer values hold over time?

I am testing some custom continental rules and holiday overnight. By 2024 some of the values were quite strange - e.g. Yuto Nagatomo was worth £45million (at a PA of 175).

Do the broadly increase across the board over time or was his reputation freakishly high?

  15. That is a good question and I am of course using the very latest patch as the base, the winter update...

The premiership includes clubs like Leeds, Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday, The return of WIMBLEDON, nottingham forest, burnley etc etc

I think it may well clash but i am not sure, and i think there are other members like kingrobbo who might be able to answer that more effectively, but yes i think it might clash, it might not be too much of an issue but the only way to find out otherwise is by trying it and seeing what happens. You can then make any fixes accordingly and hopefully it won't clash too much for you. Always keep a back up copy of the original editor just in case it doesnt work... Let me know what happens.

Balls. Think you are right. So if I want to set-up a legends super league using your DB, I'll need to edit your DB once published.

At least I realised before I completed all the work on it.

Another question - I assume you'll be including modern players as younger versions of their selves. Will you be editing their individual stats for this to reflect a reduced CA, or just planning on dropping their current ability down in the editor and letting the game take care of the rest?

I've noticed in some other (less comprehensive) legends databases I've downloaded that when they just drop the CA down without editing the individual stats down as well, the game can often just take the CA points off the physical stats leading to situations like a 17 year old Cristiano Ronaldo with pace and acceleration of 7!

  16. What database are you using as the base? 16.3?

I was doing a custom world league db in anticipation of this (based on one posted by chucklechuck, but a reduced number of leagues and teams to help run speed), using 16.3 so i'm hoping the files will be compatible.

I havent too much experience with the editor, so i was just wondering will the fact your DB has moved teams around leagues such as blackburn above clash with my file putting them in a new country entirely?

  17. Imre Schlosser-Lakatos (11 October 1889 – 19 July 1959) was a Hungarian footballer of Danube Swabian ancestry. He still holds the record as the highest goalscorer in the history of the Hungarian League.

Schlosser made his debut for Hungary on 7 October 1906, aged 16 years, 361 days, in a 4-4 draw with Bohemia. In a national team career that would last more than 20 years, Schlosser played 68 times for Hungary (the team won 70% of the games in which they fielded Schlosser), and scored 59 goals, a ratio of 0.87 goals per match.[1]

In his club career, Schlosser reportedly scored 417 league goals, a number believed to be the sixth highest of all-time

Hungarian centre forward Imre Schlosser-Lakatos was one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football during the early years of the 20th century. In a playing career which lasted almost 25 years, he set a goalscoring record for the Hungarian national team which would last until the country's golden era of the 1950s and a record for the Hungarian league which still stands today, more than 80 years after his retirement.

This is just a taste of things to come.... He was doing Hungary long before puscas and co were on the scene, COMETH THE HOUR, COMETH THE SCHLOSSER!

Does this mean you're almost finished...
