Any additional thoughts on this?  I am still trying to figure out how or why (or even if) the AI behavior is altered when using Daves realism mod.  I do have every league in the game loaded already with a large database, so my thinking is that there shouldn't really be any shortage of players to help the AI with squad building.  I am also running every league in full detail, which is also supposed to help the AI. (from what I have gathered anyway)

Any other thoughts or observations on this subject?  I find it interesting just because I am unsure how the mod could/would alter AI behavior?  I just got back from my holiday trip, so I thought I would go back to discussing this after a couple of weeks.

Daveincid's mod doesn't alter AI behavior. I'll list the changes he makes to promote more squad rotation from memory, so I could be wrong.

    1. He raises/lowers the manager attributes and tendencies that lead to more squad rotation and more use of substitutions. For example, there are manager ratings that influence: how much AI managers rotate the starting 11 for matches in low-priority cups, how much they rotate in general, and the likelihood of offering hot prospects on loan.

    2. He raises injury frequency to a more realistic level, which obviously leads to more rotation.

    3. In FM23 he also made several changes to boost how young players gain reputation, which influences their likelihood of getting playing time, but I'm not sure if he replicated this for FM24 yet.

I’ve said this more than once. SI should just open the beta branch again, so with the bugs they have fixed so far, the players could just get on with the features they paid for. Everyone would understand it’s a beta branch of the patch and would be a lot happier than without one. Also 2 birds 1 stone, as they would report the bugs they find in the beta patch, just as they do with the full release!

You have about 50 posts telling SI what they should or shouldn't do. What about some humility and letting the highly successful videogame company decide? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but isn't it a bit much when I can't read through a single page of this thread without reading your opinion of what SI should do?

You mean all this proof that has been provided, by me, in that exact manner than you describe?

Have a nice evening my friend.

It's awesome if you provided a lot of great evidence about there being excessive goals. Sincere thanks for the amazing contribution.

The posts I've seen and the ones I replied to are those to the guy with Fiorentina, and you made an objectively bad apples-to-oranges comparison to make your point.

It's about goals over the course of the season, and the amount per match over that period. Not specific results. Any team IRL can have a 4-1 or a 6-3. In FM24 however it's far too common.  It's pointless doing comparisons for one team. The issue is this will repeat itself for most in the league providing a huge increase on GPG over the course of a season. Also, Italy is one of the leagues closest to being in line and isn't the worst offender by ant means. But as seen as you asked...

Fiorentina in their last 31 league games:

1-0 results (either for or against): 7 (22.58%)

Games with 2 goals or under. 17 (54.83%)

    Fiorentina FM24 Screenshot (31 games)

1-0 results (either for or against): 1 (3.22%)

Games with 2 goals or under: 9 (29.03%)

For what it's worth also, of the last 31 league games for fairness sake Manchester City have had 6 1-0 results, meaning that approx. 1 in 5 of their games end in 1-0. Which is a lot nicer than the screenshot of 1 in 31 for FM24 Fiorentina on the screenshot, who are also arguably a lesser team.

    Next question.

The goals you are seeing in the game are from a Fiorentina in 2025 that is the best team in the world, so the comparison would be against the GPG Manchester City scores in the present.

Fiorentina in the game: 106 goals in 32 matches for 3.3 GPG

Manchester City last 32 matches: 100 goals in 32 matches for 3.1 GPG

Again, perhaps there are too many goals in the game. I haven't played or tested enough to have a strong opinion.

It would be nice if you and anyone else who is clueless about how to provide the proof would calm down a bit.

Simulating leagues and looking at the total goals scored is the way to do it. Some users have done it, maybe even yourself. SI are investigating. You can stop trying to drown every comment in this thread with terrible arguments.

No they're not, sadly. They're using "normal" tactics such as 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, even 4-1-4-1, 5-4-1 and 5-3-2 designed to be hard to break down and sneak a result.

Also your screenshot? GPG of 3.68. (league) Average in Italy over the last 3 seasons? 2.67.

You have one 1-0 in 34 matches...

If you are going to obsess so much about goals, you should at least know that GPG for the big teams is much higher than the average for the league. This guy is managing the top team in his game world.

How many Manchester City games finish 1-0?

  6. For XaW or anybody who may know, is it possible to use this file and only make the 1st-through-4th tiers playable?

I know on some of these files you need to load all the way down in order to avoid problems but promotions/relegations, so that's why I'm wondering.

Also, if you don't mind me asking something that I can't check for myself right now, is the 4th tier researched?  Or would I need to add players to playable teams?

Anyway, thanks for these leagues XaW!

I just strive for reality because you can't calibrate for everyone's taste of how many goals is "nice".

And what is "reality"?  2.4 goals/game like in the championship last season? or 3.0 like the prem this season? or 2.0 like the Spanish second division last season? Perhaps it's 3.6 like Bundesliga this season?

I'm from Argentina. Maybe we should do it like our third division, with 1.9 goals per game!

  8. If you have a specific league in mind that you want to play in, I'd recommend looking at the Bugs thread for that competition to ensure there isn't anything game-breaking.

You can find the competition bug threads here: https://community.sigames.com/bugtracker/football-manager-2024-early-access-bugs-tracker/competition-rules-and-schedule/

Other kinds of bugs can be resolved with patches on ongoing saves.

Outside of that, I'm echoing DD's comment above. This type of game will always have bugs that if you read about them, they sound game-breaking and stop you from playing. The final version of every FM ever has bugs that look massive if you read about them. Odds are you would never find out about them if you just played.

  9. I win leagues with "bad" teams and rarely use team instructions. The player roles and duties are the base of a tactic. In my experience, team instructions are for emphasis or for when you want your team to defend a certain special way, such as parking the bus or pushing up to pressure.

I swear this is not a brag, but I don't find it difficult to win the English National League South or North with the worst teams after minimal reinforcements by just playing 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1. This is without team instructions to start, but I do watch the matches in full and may introduce one or two instructions if I notice problems (mainly work ball into box if the team is being too wasteful, or I drop down the defensive lines if we are winning but struggling to defend).

The game is being released in 2024. If it releases a game with graphics akin to a 2015 release it will be laughed out of town.

The 2022 game released with 2005-level graphics. Was it laughed out of town or was it a record release?

Honestly, if FM 25 has graphics from 2015 AAA games, it would be amazing.

  11. When we use custom league files, most of the time we need to add players to playable teams, as otherwise the teams in new leagues will have few or no players.

The problem is that the option is global, so it adds many players (mainly youth players) to every active league, bloating the save. For example, non-league teams in England will all suddenly have full youth squads, which isn't realistic or desirable.

A possible solution would be to let us "add players to playable teams" as league-based option when we are choosing database options in the advanced league creation setup. Just like we have the option to "load all players based in nation" for every country, we could have an option to "add players to playable teams" in the same screen.

It was, as I said, from a yard out. Into an open goal

xG in the game doesn't necessarily know it's an open goal. Players tend to miss-kick often from crosses. Calibrating xG is incredibly difficult and there are choices to be made, both in designing it for the game and in real life.

Accusing the developers of "deliberately trying to hide unrealistically high chance creation and unrealistically poor finishing" is incredibly dumb and also offensive. Do you also believe that matches are scripted?

  13. Just like defenders will tackle harder if the referee allows it, Martinez will go as far as the referee allows to reduce the probability of a good penalty shot by the opponent.  He's not hurting anyone physically or mentally with what he does.

The off-field antics are for Argentinean fans, who enjoy a much more vulgar brand of humor than what is the norm for Europeans. Mbappe talked **** about South American football before the World Cup and crushed Argentina's cup dreams in 2018, so he's the enemy. Dibu could have done much worse than holding a baby doll with Mbappe's face on it.
