  1. Hi all. I've been looking to implement a gegenpress tactic on my first fm19 save. When setting the default tactic, it sets the pressing intensity to "extremely urgent" and yet my box to box midfielders and various others have their pressing intensity locked as "less urgent." Is this because these roles aren't consistent with extremely urgent pressing and thus that individual role's pressing is limited to "more urgent", and therefore the level of pressing will always be "less urgent" than the default tactical instruction for example? Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, I did try to search for a solution to the issue on these forums or whether it simply isn't an issue as such.
  2. Thanks XaW, I was relatively capable on '13 and '14 so I'm hoping I will get by OK, but if it's literally a case of not understanding how to use something, I won't hesitate to ask on the forums. I agree that getting players to fit my desired tactic is my first port of call. Whilst it might seem contradictory to my original rant, I actually agree with you here with relation to being in the camp of too much player info for those you don't have in your own squad. Whilst attribute masking means a hell of a lot more scouting needs to be done for example, it is not realistic to know a player's exact granular statistics for every attribute simply because a scout has had a look at them, as well as finding out how ambitious they are for example. Conversely, once you observe a player day to day, these attributes along with their personality would become observable. But they would still be fluid and you may not ever get a full idea of their personality until managing them for a period of years. Then again, saying all this, I often like to play the game with attribute masking off as I like to search for players myself. I suppose this highlights the difficulty SI have in keeping everyone happy!
  3. Thanks all, I think I was quick to jump the gun on this one to be honest, purely because I've found there is a hell of a lot of new stuff to get my head around. At first it seems like hassle but I'm sure the features are valuable in the long-run. As some of you have mentioned, delegation can always be used too. I think in an effort to get a hold on some of the complexity, I was annoyed at myself for looking a bit more in depth into player personalities and killing some of the mystery for myself. I guess it's always a balance of trying to know enough for the game to not be a slog but trying to leave yourself enough to discover (for which there is plenty for me!) Cheers for the insights.
  4. I’ve just started FM19 having not played a version properly since FM14. Obviously there has been a fair bit of overhaul in tactics, training schedules, squad cohesion etc. since then. As with the calculation of DDM plus relevant coaching stats to achieve 5 star coaching ratings, I feel as if a large part of the game is now requiring me to undertake research on “how to do it right” rather than rely on intuition and trying to work it out. I want to try and work out what training schedules to put together, and how to mentor players effectively etc. without needing to look it up, but I feel that, as with needing to research the importance of hidden stats like professionalism and ambition and how you can identify them by player personalities/media handling styles/other cues, some of these things are simply too long-winded to learn. They need to be researched on forums and guides to know the way to approach them rather than approaching it blindly yourself and hoping to rely on common sense and learned knowledge. Does anyone feel the same/understand where I’m coming from? I have tried to look up as little as possible so far and maybe I’m just overthinking the whole thing but I like there to be a certain sense of unknown that you can try to make sense of as you go along. I’m wondering if now it’s simply a case of researching “the best” training schedules and the tactics that are proven to work, rather than attempting to make sense of all these things yourself. There seems to be too complex a web of “rules” that one wouldn’t naturally come to the conclusion of, which reduces learning and discovering by intuition and experience. Maybe I’m simply overwhelmed and failing to try and adapt! But rather than borrowing “solutions” off the internet, having the tools to know a bit but needing creativity and logic to improve shiuld all be part of the fun right? Otherwise someone is simply telling you where to put the pieces in the jigsaw puzzle.
  5. I see, thanks for the thorough explanation Smurf, that makes sense.
  6. Thanks very much Smurf. I’ve ordered it. Noticed you liked the Asus Maxi brought up too which has a better graphics card. If only playing FM, will the graphics card only affect 3D match engine smoothness or something more? Maxi, if you did want the MSI you were previously looking at, I ordered it for £806 from Debenhams Plus today. It sounds like you’re not in a rush and will scout around but thought I’d let you know
  7. Hi all, Smurf, thanks very much for your help earlier on in this thread re: a suitable laptop for FM. I’ve had a think and have a couple of questions for you, Jordan, or whoever is willing to help! The attached 2 laptops are currently top of my list. The Medion has more Ram and a bigger screen. The MSI has a better CPU (according to the CPU link in your opening post it is 27th whereas the Medion is 141st) and an SSD. I am looking to play FM and also I will be using the laptop for work, moving files around both locally and on sharepoint as well as using office applications/browsers. I’m not too sure as to how much better the processor is on the MSI and whether it’s worth the offset to get more Ram. 27th vs 141st seems a lot but given it’s an 8th gen i7, I’m not sure if it’s that far behind. Furthermore whilst SSD isn’t important for FM, I understand it makes things faster if saving and moving files around away from FM (i.e. for my work purposes) ? My friend recommended getting 16gig of ram but the above points are making me feel the MSI may be a better shout. Secondly, I’m conscious that the only game I’ll really play is FM so the amount added in cost for a dedicated graphics card seems quite steep. However if I want to play 3D it seems necessary. Will a Graphics Card make any of the game faster/smoother other than the match engine? Thanks very much in advance!
  8. Hi all, I am looking to get a laptop with a budget of circa £800. I would push to £1,000 if there was a relatively large level of added performance. I want to play FM as well as being able to browse/do some work, none of which will be very high intensity. These are the three I have been looking at - MI GF63 for £800, HP Omen for £700 and Acer Predator for £700 (the Predator can be bought for £700 rather than the £1K in the screenshot.) With an i7 I’m thinking the MSI is likely the best option? However when scrolling up I also noticed some comments about how an i7 doesn’t provide much better performance than an i5 for FM? I thought it may help for multi tasking and future proofing though... Any advice very welcome and also whether building a laptop would be more cost-efficient/whether a warranty is generally provided with a custom build... thank you!

  10. In the last couple of games I've set my full backs to "marking specific player" on the oppositions wingers as they seemed big threats. Both games those wingers ended up getting free simply by running in behind my full back and scoring, so frustrating! Do others have this problem too? One of the goals conceded in my last game, my centre back was actually marking one of the oppositions wingers when my team had a corner; the resulting corner got cleared and one of my full backs who had also stayed back, rushed to said winger as he was set to specifically marking him, meaning one opposition player was double marked (who ended up flicking the ball on) and another player ran through completely clear and scored. This lack of intelligence makes me feel like maybe it's just best leaving this option alone? Cheers.
  11. Ok thanks Cleon, yeah I haven't changed the shouts as of recently. Maybe last season I did and/or brought in players which prompted the need to raise it through pre-match training again. I'll just have to smash out a lot more pre-game training to get it up again I guess!...what I found strange was that I'd brought in around 13 players including loans which didn't cause much issue (just a slow rate of increase) then 5 extra on the last day of the transfer window made it totally plummet! Anyway my fault for being too much of a whealer dealer haha!
  12. Having switched the formation I wanted to play with at the beginning of my third season with Watford, the tactical familiarity was inevitably low at the beginning of pre-season and slowly improved through training and friendlies. It's now September the 1st and it has suddenly dropped to an extremely low level with the formation, mentality, tempo and width suddenly dipping to "awkward" familiarity!? I've had a large turnaround in playing staff which I know isn't great for chemistry but I didn't think that would cause this kind of issue to such an extreme. Due to my steam being a bit dodgy, I had to re-do the final stages of installation before playing the game today, the game saves still seem completely intact as always when this issue occurs, but I was wondering if that may have caused a glitch or is it simply an in-game result of actions I've taken? On a side note when tactical familiarity levels are at full, do you find you have to do at least some pre-match training to keep them at premium levels? I stopped doing any pre-match training at all last season but within a week tactical familiarity had dropped and the assistant said I needed to increase pre-match training. Cheers.
  13. Thanks for the feedback guys. Biggus he could of got some games but was rather lightweight and young for a keeper so I thought it'd be better to play a better keeper, try to ensure promotion and hope he'd get 30 or so games there. Sosasoser yeah I guess the injury may have had a bigger effect than I thought, interesting to know that with your feeder clubs it's been fine to loan to non-playable leagues, I'll have to experiment with it again sometime. If I can improve stats at an impressive level in my under 18's/under 21's I'd be happy with sticking to that!
