  1. is a player's response to individual training randomised and/or built in from the start? I have a player that's 22, with a professional personality, keep complaining that the individual training i assigned him isn't beneficial. It's neither an attribute that is particularly low or high, and as far as i know he definitely still has plenty of room to improve. i had always had problems getting players to train their weakest attributes but this is new to me.

  2. What is the difference between Focus Play and Width? Is focussing play down the flanks with a narrow width the same as focusing play down the middle but wide width? If I'm not wrong, focus play has changed somewhat in FM21, yes? Instead of increasing mentality in the desired positions, it now does what it says on the tin and increases the number of passes into the area of focus? But I always thought that width did that, a wider width would see more passes to wide players and narrow to central players.

  3. Three questions

    1)

When a PI clashes with a player trait (e.g. More Direct Passing / Plays One-Twos), what happens exactly? Do they negate each other or does one override the other?

    2)

Do TIs clash with player traits (e.g. More Direct Passing / Plays One-Twos)? Do they it affect the way a player with "conflicting" traits plays vs. without?

    3)

Does the player trait "Comes Deep to Get Ball" have any effect on players closer to defensive strata? The flavour text says "This increases the frequency of a forward player dropping into midfield to get possession", so I find it weird that my assman would recommend my DM picking up this trait (reason: "Strong teamwork"), as he's neither a forward nor does he venture forward.

  4. Thanks! Got a couple more questions!

For the TI Overlap and Underlap, they "instruct players on the left/right flank to hold on to the ball". Does flank mean the entire half of the pitch or just the wide midfielder and fullback bit of pitch? For example, will my MCL look for the AML or WBL to overlap if I have Overlap Left switched on? Or, will my MCL look for the MCR to underlap if Underlap Left is on instead?

Also, not directly a tactics question but does the Vision attribute affect shooting and dribbling decision making as well? The description in-game mentions "potential openings" which sounds like it could be applied to shooting and dribbling too.

  5. Hi.

When creating a tactic, does the base tactical style matter? For example, if I created a gegenpressing tactic with the Gegenpress tactical style as a base and the exact same tactic (TIs, PIs and formation) with Park the Bus tactical style as a base instead, would they play differently? Also, does base tactical style affect training schedules if left to assman?

    Thank you!

  6. Has anyone got specific marking to properly work?

I've tried getting my full backs/wingers to specifically mark opposition wingers, or a DM to specifically guard a dangerous M/AMC but they always ALWAYS end up getting goalside of my players. Extremely easily, I might add. Once I remove specific marking, the problem stops. However, other problems arise (e.g. players marking other "less desirable" targets).

  7. If it is because they are improperly positioned, then it's a match engine issue that we hope will be corrected at some point in the near future. There are some defensive positioning problems with fullbacks at the moment that are the most evident when there is a transition play coming at you, or a break at speed.

Ahh, so that's why. Are the affected positions just the DL/DR positions? Or are the WBR/WBL positions affected as well? Also DCR/DCL in a 3-man defence? Or is it just the fullback player role?

  8. Yes it can- I use it regularly without a DM. However, I tend only to use it against a lone striker. With two striker formations, I found that there was too much exploitable space between them.

I might post a screenshot or a pkm later, but it was specifically a lone striker that I used it against. Although I did set my stopper to Mark Specific Player (Origi). He ended up losing Origi at every opportunity, allowing him goalside every time a long ball was played in his direction.
