  1. Ok, so it's been well over a year and I haven't posted at all. You may remember, the goal was to take Kettering and also do a youth only save. Something I now 15 months later regret. Having got to 6th in the Premier League in the 17 challenge, I was determined to do better and not to go to FM19 until done. So... First lovely pic (despite the mention of the Stripey Nigels) And here's how it went, including a rather disappointing relegation along the way... Here's my manager My 'Best Eleven' My Title Winning Squad With their home grown status and my best player, Jack White 1 last screenie - a Europa league in the season prior to the Premier League title. My final thoughts. I am NEVER completing a youth only save again. So frustrating to be progressing and then have your star players taken and also not be able to mentor to improve squad characteristics. It took probably 8 years to get a player who was the right personality and determination to tutor... I hate the Championship but once in the Premiership, I think I hate it more for the first two seasons. I think I discovered every little edge I could find in the match engine for FM18 along the way, finishing with a 3 x Shadow Striker formation. Now, Fm19 - and Sorry Dafuge but no challenge for me this year - see you in FM20
  2. So, finally first season done. You may remember, I've taken on Kettering with the added challenge of a "Youth Only" save. Well, Ouch. The season started pretty badly If I'm honest, struggling to get any form of result. Only when I switched to a much deeper defensive line and more direct football did I get anywhere. It all started to go well, including a 9 game streak of wins in all competitions. Come Christmas I was sitting at the top of the table, however... With a pretty bare squad and no way of recruiting there were a couple of alarming weaknesses. The main one was, CB's with an average age of 35 (hence the deep d-line) hitting some poor form, the other, a single outstanding player on the right of midfield and realistically, no cover. During the festive period, my star man got injured. This turned games where I'd be scrapping to tactically "mastermind" wins into games where I'd be scrapping to draw. To cut a long story short, injuries killed the second half of the season and I ended up 11th. Not bad from being predicted relegation but, oh, what could have been! On the infrastructure side there is some good news. Training facilities are Adequate, Youth are Below Average, You Level is 4, Junior Coaching is Adequate and Youth Recruitment is now Above Average. As for the intake, not too bad considering. Bags of potential, all PA 3.5* or above. Two 3* CA (a LB and CM) and one 2*CA (an AMR Winger) I just need to figure out how to build the talent into a cohesive team over the next few seasons and see if I can claw my way out of National League North. All in all, some things to be excited about but lots of work to be done in pre-season to pull this lot together. Cheers. Barnet.
  3. Well, didn't quite manage it on FM17 (although I did get to Europe) Off to FM18 to try again
  4. Late to the party as have been getting used to the new tactics. Now I'm done, I'm all over this challenge but to add a little bit more to it this year (as if already not hard enough) I'm planning to combine with a youth only challenge. I'm anticipating that it will take me a good few seasons to get out of the National Leagues (if I survive that long) so you'll see slow progress in this thread. The benefit is it should certainly keep me busy through to FM19 and the restrictiveness should see me adopt some interesting tactical approaches. Given the scale of the challenge, the size of their squad and my small amount of guilt as a Brighton fan, I'll be choosing Hereford. ...and rather brilliantly I crashed straight away after an hours work on the squad. This time, it's Kettering!

A very positive, if a bit of a yo-yo season due in part to a large influx of players totalling £58m, including nabbing a Striker and Captain for £40.5m. As a young side, we are struggling for consistency but this season we have really started to find our swagger, with long winning streaks followed by being unable to buy a win. A centre midfield who are 19, 19 and 20 are actually starting to boss poorer teams which is pleasing to see, a little bit more from them and it'll be very exciting. The first major highlight of the season was the first big scalp in October, beating Man U 3-1. THis was followed up in December by a 4-1 defeat of Tottenham and a very surprising 1-0 double over Man City (who seem to have won everything!) Arsenal however continue to smash us. I think I'll need a new answer to them as the 5-3-2 (Counter/Flexible) I'm using to get some solidity really is exposed by their quick passing and movement. But anyway, we've only gone and got into Europe! I'm hoping that'll help with the rep, which continues to be a stumbling block. At an infrastructure level, our stadium is being upgraded from it's 14800 capacity, Our Training facilities are now 2.5 star and Youth 2 star. Our reputation remains 3 star but at least we're now on a par with Championship clubs like Brighton and Birmingham. By now, we're almost exclusively newgens. Cameron James, Marc Guehi are the last two with us, shortly to leave at the end of the season, although both have managed some appearances. This season has also seen the end for Ivor Lawton who we released on a free It finally feels like we can compete with all but the top teams without defending for our lives constantly, which is a huge relief. So another seasons warchest and reasons to be cheerful as we push towards the premier league title which I'm aiming to have in my possession by season 29/30. barnet (MOTY) and "Legend"

P 38 W 7 D 13 L 18 GD -33 What a season! I'd like to say we were ready for the Premier League, we absolutely weren't. Coming up from the Championship is no fun at all, particularly with minimal budget and a poor reputation. Much of the squad we had assembled had reached their pinnacle in the Championship although Mark Guehi continued to perform admirably at Right Back for us (7.06) Everyone else was below a 7 which highlights the struggle we had. A 0-4 battering by Manchester United first game of the season was a sign of things to come and reverting to a 5-3-2 at times helped provide some solidity. We had to work hard to gather every one our 34 points! 40 points? Pah! Throughout the season we began to scout heavily for new arrivals and with only loans possible early on in the season, the TV money meant that in January we could outlay a whopping £5.5m on 4 players, 2 CM's, 1 CB and a striker - all under 23 and with some potential by then I feel our reputation had picked up somewhat but was still 3* A horrific run in of last 3 games of Arsenal at home, Man City away and Spurs away was always going to be a problem and 1 point from 9 never felt like enough. Fortunately it was. The complete ineptitude of Bournemouth, Southampton and Bristol City was staggering but satisfying. They all managed 0 from 9... Wow. So we managed to stay up which is amazing and unexpected news. It was horrendously disheartening at times getting ripped to shreds and without the necessary quality to mount any form of comeback, but what a sense of achievement! Stadium wise, we've moved into our 16,000 capacity sensibly named "Tonbridge Stadium" and I've immediately set out to expand it. Training upgrade in progress (2.5*) Youth in progress (2*) and given our wages are at the ridiculous end of low we are now "Rich" and making about £5m a month! WIth all the cash washing around, many of the club debts have been cleared. So on to the next season. I have had a full clear out. 12 of the squad have gone and I've been spent some cash. It feels like our reputation has improved (although still 3*) as alongside a small number of free transfers, 2 year long "free" loans and sub-£3m bargains, I've spent £40m to "release clause" a striker who wanted to come! Maicol Serni is his name and he is a monster. Det 20, Fin 18, OTB 18, Acc 17, Bal 17, Pac 16, Sta 16, Tea 16, Wor 16. Lets see how he goes! £50m in the bank, but I'll be looking to only add hot prospects or free transfers to the squad this season as I want to spend that cash on infrastructure. I will need home grown players if we're going to rock European competition. A pre-season of expensive glamour ties against top European competition awaits. (not sure they'll help with rep but I hope they might) Onwards!
  9. Challenge has taken a back seat for a while but in the premiership, so far, no good... 21 games, 15 points and -25 goal difference... Not sure I can recover!
  10. Bar the once a season two-footed challenge, he is. This season he came on in one game in the 63rd minute and was gone again 2 mins later! LOVE him

(woohoo) So I've defended my way to the premiership with the most miserly defence in the division, turning some of the draws from last season into wins. This season has the been the most pleasing tactically as I've had to adjust throughout the season from 4-3-1-2 to 4-4-2 (Diamond) and 5-3-2 with the occasional bit of leftfield tactical exploitation. The training of flexible young players has definitely helped in this respect meaning switches can happen relatively seamlessly and without substitutions. Best Player this season was Marc Guehi (7.36) and the most pleasing aspect of that is that he has been there from The Vanarama South, having signed on a Free after being released by Chelsea in 2017/18. He will be playing in every english division. Ivor Lawton is still our Captain and still about (7.02) having joined in the Vanarma National (after a season in the Vanarama South with Sutton United) having started at Coventry. Ollie Hartfield has been great at Left Back (7.35) but my coaches think theat for both, the premiership might be too far. Elsewhere of the non regens, Cameron James (7.31) is a rock at CB At the tail of last season I was able to use the money I had to scout and purchase 6 promising youngsters. 3 of these, A 20 year old Striker, Kovac (7.00 & 20 Goals) a 19 year old CB, Barry (7.09 & 4 Goals) and an 18 year old midfielder, Mitic (6.93, 1 goal) have contributed to the first team. The others have been out on loan but having performed well, ought to form part of the squad this coming season. So. Now the premiership dream is here. I'd really like to improve my BWMs in centre Midfield as these are key to the way we play. With 1 or 2 strong midfielders in the side and a Striker with some aerial threat as an outlet, I think we might stay up. In other good news - The team is moving to The Den for a season whilst we build a brand new 16000 seater stadium. It might kill us financially for a few years but looking forward to having a stand named in my honour

(woohoo) So, not a lot to shout about this season. Progress has been slow, but we are starting to get a little stronger although getting players with a 2star reputation is still not easy. We briefly flirted with the playoffs, again after a slow start but ulitimately missed out to much higher quality teams, Everton, Middlesbrough, Sheff Wed, Aston Villa, Reading and Watford due to a run of draws which we couldn't turn into wins. We have made some sales which has given us a bit more cash to play with at the start of this season (net -700k)and hopefully some more wages too. A Stadium in excess of 6000 should also make a difference. All in all, a bit of a frustrating season with the limited reputation and cash. I'm hopeful that our reputation will lead to stronger recruitment before next season begins. The Premiership seems slightly less far away but still a little out of reach for my mob.

Not much of a wage budget and not much quality wanting to to come to a Championship club with a League Two reputation. Started the season terribly and had to adjust tactically to a 5-man defence as Championship players were ripping me to shreds. Once we made this shift and gained familiarity, we built some momentum. This led to us only dropping 6 points in 11 games, this helped make safe in the league but it wasn't quite enough to get us into the playoffs. On the playing staff side, our Goalkeeper from the original Tonbridge team, Bradley Comins, still remains and a few of our Vanarama signings are still in place, Ivor Lawton, Gary Lennon and Marc Guehi. These are also renewed ready for the current season. Our reputation doesn't seem to have budged much *2*, so getting quality will be tough. Our stadium capacity is now a dizzying 3750 and we're always full and our training ground is now only below average but we plough on! The premiership currently seems a distance away but our run at the end of the season gives some hope. Our young squad will also now be a year older and whilst the cost of the team continues to grow, so for some of it, does the ability. A few strong additions and we could close the gap. I should also say, no-one is interested in my players, or ever has been. Could do with a big sale to kick us along a bit.
