I don’t think it makes a big difference, maybe that a team thats up 1 is defending more towards the end of the game, because they are afraid of two points.

I'm one of the old people that prefer 2,1,0 system. There is no benefit in an extra point for a win. but for the the main questions I would go for a 4,2,1 system. You basically get a point for playing a game.

I designed a League Cup for the Swedish top tier (Allsvenskan) that contains two group stages and two knockout rounds. But I do want to seed that directly in to a group based on last year. Group A: 1st, 7th, 10th & playoff winner; Group B 4th, 6th, 11th & 13th; Group C 2nd, 8th, 9th & runner-up tier 2 en finally D 3th, 5th, 12th en Champion tier 2.
