Why are contracted players for the Chicago Fire available on a free transfer?

This was true at the start of my save, but I looked up the player profiles and it's coded like this into the database itself (not just my save).

Federico Navarro (IRL under contract until 2025 + 1 year extension):

Did something happen with the Chicago Fire that I am unaware of or there is an MLS rule that would explain this in game? I'm managing in the UK for reference. I'm confused since it's repeated players at the same club.

Both player's are listed on the teams roster: https://www.chicagofirefc.com/roster/ and Navarro is actively playing games for them IRL.
