1 team short when testing advanced rules with no changes

Recommended Posts

Hi all, hoping someone can help me figure this out.

I’m in the process of creating a world super league, predominantly with basic rules, but I need to use the advance rules to solve a minimal number of issues. The main one being a relegation/promotion playoff. (The lower league was having a playoff, the winners advanced to a relegation playoff with teams above. However, when setting this in basic rules, it didn’t require the lower division playoff to complete first so wasn’t getting the correct teams. I sorted this without issue). I don’t think this is related to my issue.

i have just added another tier (while still in basic rules) of 8 groups. When I test in basic rules, it tells me everything is valid. If I switch to advanced rules, even if I test before making any additional changes, it tells me that this tier is one team short, only finding 191 teams rather than 192. Judging by when this error occurs, it would seem like it happens going into season 2. Can anyone think of any reason why this might be happening and where this team is seemingly disappearing to?

Any help much appreciated!

Additionally, if anyone can help with any of the following, that would be great too.

1. I have created a new nation from a formerly extinct one to host this league. I made sure they were not affiliated to FIFA, however, the national team still plays friendlies and their u21s appear in UEFA u21 championship qualifiers  is there anything I can do about that? I’ve not tried changing continent, but assume the u21 issue would happen everywhere?

2. Does anyone have any advice on a reasonable prize money / tv money set up? There’s a lot of travelling involved, so I need to make sure teams don’t go bankrupt but I also don’t want every team ending up with billions in the bank. Is this just going to be trial and error?

3. Is it possible to have a squad rule that requires a team to have a certain number of players from their base nation? Similar to how Canadian MLS teams have so many Canadians? Although, I’ve moved clubs to the league, I have not moved where they are located, so if possible, would love to have , for example, English clubs having 5 English players in their squad.

Thanks again!

After hours of testing and narrowing down. I’ve found the problem seems to be St.Louis SC. They get added back to the mls after the first season. Even if I delete the mls, it still pulls them from my league. Guess I’ll just have to leave them out.

Still open to suggestions for my other points tho

Yes - the expansion MLS franchises are hardocded MLS for a couple years after they enter the game. This year is the first year the issue doesn't affect Miami, Charlotte, Nashville and Austin. My preferred workaround is to make a copy of the team and insert it in its place, then make the old team extinct (and label it as such.) I'd wait until the 24.4 update to do that though, as you manually have to move players otherwise.

Thanks for this. I’m happy to just leave them out to be honest. It won’t make a huge difference (unless I get round to sharing my db and someone really wants to use them!)

I see you’ve done a lot of work on US databases, I don’t suppose you know how the Canadian player rule works and whether it’s possible to implement it in other leagues for teams based in one nation but playing in another?

I don't actually - the MLS is such a Gordian knot of rules that I just follow Alexander the Great's example (slice it to bits and move on.) Sorry I can't be more help with that - my guess though is that you need to look either in additional helpers or somewhere in the roster rules. If you have a previous version of the editor you could load up an fm23 database with the MLS advanced rules, and compare it to yours.
