Backroom Staff Cull at Arsenal

New Manager Wastes No Time Making Big Changes Behind The Scenes

Just days after his appointment the new Arsenal manager has already set to work shaping the club ahead of their new era. With multiple staff roles changed, but more interestingly many being let go, as a new closer-knit coaching system is introduced in what is being described as an attempt to provide more consistency within the club from the youths to senior level with coaches now working with both squads.

4 coaches have left the club along with 4 scouts and one physio. The latest word is that no replacements are being bought in.

Optimism Ahead of Season

New And Old Put Pen To Paper

With the season starting in under a fortnight Arsenal fans have every right to be optimistic after the club had been very busy at the end of July. New, exciting prospects were welcomed into the club and key players signed onto longer contracts to avoid a repeat of big names players leaving as has happened in recent years.

Vermaelen, Walcott, Van Persie and promising defensive midfielder Frimpong all signed new deals. Although deals with Song and Arshavin have hit complications in early stages it is believed.

Whilst on the 18th of July talented winger Shaqiri signed from Basel for a reported £10million, and promising Croatian right-back Sime Vrsjalko signed 2 days later for £2million expected to be understudy to French International Sagna.

It hasn't been just players coming into the emirates that have pleased Arsenal fans though, as out-of-favour Almunia headed back to Spain joining Malaga for £1.5million and young Sachez Watt joined Portsmouth in a deal worth a reported £500k.

Whether the club will be involved in any more transfer activity this month in unknown but they begin their Premiership campaign with a home tie against Newcastle on the 13th.

Victory

Second-half Display Seals Opening Win

Arsenal 2 v 0 Newcastle

Arsenal fans headed to the Emirates to see how their team would perform without Wenger against an always tricky Newcastle. Lining up in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation that has become common amongst teams recently, compared to the defensive 4-4-1-1 employed by Newcastle. After the build-up to the new season and all the fan-fare that comes with it the first half of this game definitely did disappoint with just 3 off-target shots mustered in the half all of which by Arsenal and never likely to cause Harper any trouble. It was the introduction of one of Wengers final signings Gevinho for his debut that changed the game as he replaced Van Persie who had been struggling with a knock picked up in the first half. 3 minutes into his debut Gervinho broke free down the wing and whipped in a devilish cross where Walcott took a touch away from the keeper in the 6-yard box and slammed home. Newcastle nearly struck back 10 minutes later when Marveaux hit a fierce shot which Szczesny parried away, this proved to be Newcastle's only shot of the entire game as Arsenal's defence put in a hugely impressive performance. A Newcastle player did make it onto the scoresheet in the 80th minute, however it was in the wrong end for them as Davide Santon deflected a Walcott drive into his own net. Arsenal comfortably saw out the final 10 minutes and could have added to their tally, but will be delighted to get the win.

Team; Szczesny, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Sagna, Song, Ramsey, Arteta (Coquelin), Shaqiri, Walcott, Van Persie (Gervinho).

Goalscorers; Walcott, Santon (OG).
