bestbrother
Season 2014/2015 Review: Expections: Board: Mid-Table Personal: Qualify for Copa Sudamericana Financially we find ourselves on hard times, so its a case of making do with what we have. However there is enough talent there to compete in the top half of the division and as such I would hope we can compete for a Top 5 finish to make the end of season Liguilla. Pre-Season With nothing to spend, pre-season left me with a chance to assess the squad at my disposal and look to the U20 system to see if anyone from there could do a job for us. Notably 18 year old Fernando Cornejo would make the step up to the first team, however in total 5 players would get that call and be a part of our squad for the coming season. Primera Division de Chile Apertura 17 games and with little time to get into our stride, we would suffer early in the season as we would face 3 straight away games that caught us short, as with just 9pts collected from our opening 7 games, the bottom half of the table appeared to be our destination. However we did manage to win at Cobresal in the first Clasico del Cobre of the season, as well as beating Colo Colo 2-1 in front of a vocal home crowd. Fortunately our defense became a focal point for the team and 6 straight clean sheets saw us win 6 straight games and immediately move into contention not just for the Top 5 place id hoped for, but as an outside shot at winning the Apertura title. Alas we would collapse at home as the TV cameras came to town, with defeats against Santiago Wanderers and fellow title chasing Universidad de Chile ending our hopes of coming first. We still have to clinch our spot in the Liguilla and would do sow, collecting 10pts from 12 to end the season, as we gave ourselves a shot at making the 2015 Copa Libertadores. Into Liguilla and our Semi Final proved comfortable as a 5-1 aggregate win over Nublense setup a Final against surprise package Deportes Iquique. Unfortunately for us, Iquique had our number earlier in the season winning 1-0 on our patch in the League, whilst also knocking us out of the Copa Chile. That hoodoo would remain, as a 2-0 loss in the first leg dented our chances, before we rallied but fell ultimately shy with a 1-1 draw at home. We had reached expectations, but fell short when questioned and it will be a case of looking back at the 'What Ifs' of a season lost. | Pos | Inf | Team | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1st | C | Colo Colo | 17 | 12 | 3 | 2 | 38 | 16 | 22 | 39 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2nd | | Universidad de Chile | 17 | 12 | 1 | 4 | 40 | 24 | 16 | 37 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 3rd | | Cobreloa | 17 | 11 | 1 | 5 | 27 | 17 | 10 | 34 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 4th | | Ñublense | 17 | 9 | 3 | 5 | 35 | 24 | 11 | 30 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 5th | | Deportes Iquique | 17 | 9 | 2 | 6 | 21 | 20 | 1 | 29 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 6th | | Universidad Católica | 17 | 7 | 7 | 3 | 21 | 12 | 9 | 28 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 7th | | O'Higgins | 17 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 23 | 20 | 3 | 26 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 8th | | Palestino | 17 | 8 | 1 | 8 | 37 | 32 | 5 | 25 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 9th | | Unión Española | 17 | 7 | 3 | 7 | 23 | 21 | 2 | 24 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 10th | | Santiago Wanderers | 17 | 6 | 6 | 5 | 28 | 28 | 0 | 24 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 11th | | Audax Italiano | 17 | 7 | 3 | 7 | 21 | 26 | -5 | 24 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 12th | | Universidad de Concepción | 17 | 7 | 1 | 9 | 33 | 33 | 0 | 22 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 13th | | Barnechea | 17 | 4 | 6 | 7 | 21 | 30 | -9 | 18 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 14th | | Deportes Antofagasta | 17 | 5 | 3 | 9 | 23 | 33 | -10 | 18 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 15th | | Huachipato | 17 | 4 | 5 | 8 | 28 | 33 | -5 | 17 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 16th | | Unión La Calera | 17 | 4 | 3 | 10 | 25 | 35 | -10 | 15 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 17th | | San Marcos de Arica | 17 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 21 | 34 | -13 | 11 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 18th | | Cobresal | 17 | 1 | 4 | 12 | 15 | 42 | -27 | 7 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Primera Division de Chile Clausura Back at it we came in 2015 with a couple of additions to the squad, mainly to bolster numbers as we had suffered with various injury crisis' that left us short in areas. Once again we started off slowly as Deportes Iquique kept us under their feet in the opening fixture, however we bounced back with an 8 game unbeaten run that saw us win 6, including another win over Cobresal in the Clasico, whilst we also completed a double over Colo Colo with a 2-0 win in the capital. A shock home defeat to San Marcos halted us briefly, but another 5 game winning streak put us on top of the table and looking good to win it all with just 2 games remaining and us needing 4pts. First up was a trip to Huachipato and we fell apart, 4 goals in the first half ruined our chances and an eventual 4-1 defeat put us on the backfoot. Then with us needing help elsewhere, we looked to beat O'Higgins at home in our last game... however another 4 goals flew past our normally watertight backline and our chances of winning the title had been blown apart in spectacular fashion. Off to the Liguilla we went again, this time for Copa Sudamericana places and again we made the Final as a 6-2 aggregate romp over Colo Colo renewed hope in the team. That would soon dissipate against Universidad Catolica as we would go down to another 4 goal haul in the 1st leg and only salvaging some pride in a 1-0 2nd leg win that had no bearing on the overall outcome. Once again we came close, but come away with nothing to show for our efforts. We will play in the 2015 Copa Sudamericana thanks to our efforts in the overall table, but will need to step up if we are to bring back success to Cobre' | Pos | Inf | Team | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1st | C | Universidad de Chile | 17 | 12 | 4 | 1 | 37 | 15 | 22 | 40 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2nd | | Universidad Católica | 17 | 11 | 3 | 3 | 31 | 12 | 19 | 36 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 3rd | | Cobreloa | 17 | 11 | 2 | 4 | 29 | 17 | 12 | 35 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 4th | | Colo Colo | 17 | 10 | 4 | 3 | 28 | 14 | 14 | 34 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 5th | | Huachipato | 17 | 8 | 5 | 4 | 42 | 30 | 12 | 29 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 6th | | Unión La Calera | 17 | 7 | 6 | 4 | 27 | 27 | 0 | 27 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 7th | | Deportes Iquique | 17 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 34 | 25 | 9 | 26 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 8th | | Santiago Wanderers | 17 | 7 | 3 | 7 | 37 | 35 | 2 | 24 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 9th | | O'Higgins | 17 | 5 | 5 | 7 | 23 | 27 | -4 | 20 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 10th | | Audax Italiano | 17 | 5 | 4 | 8 | 26 | 31 | -5 | 19 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 11th | | Deportes Antofagasta | 17 | 5 | 4 | 8 | 28 | 35 | -7 | 19 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 12th | | San Marcos de Arica | 17 | 5 | 4 | 8 | 27 | 35 | -8 | 19 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 13th | | Ñublense | 17 | 4 | 5 | 8 | 29 | 33 | -4 | 17 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 14th | | Palestino | 17 | 4 | 5 | 8 | 33 | 40 | -7 | 17 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 15th | R | Cobresal | 17 | 4 | 5 | 8 | 36 | 45 | -9 | 17 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 16th | | Unión Española | 17 | 4 | 4 | 9 | 26 | 41 | -15 | 16 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 17th | | Universidad de Concepción | 17 | 3 | 6 | 8 | 20 | 28 | -8 | 15 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 18th | R | Barnechea | 17 | 2 | 4 | 11 | 18 | 41 | -23 | 10 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Copa Chile An obligatory Group Stage to start the Chilean season is not the best thing to enter, however after a stuttering start we would edge through by winning our final 3 games to top the group and go into the last 16. There we would meet Deportes Iquique and a 3-1 loss at their place in the opening leg would prove to much to overcome and although we won 1-0 at home, our run in the Copa would come to an end. | Date | Time | Opposition | Venue | Result | Goal Scorers | Competition | Wed, 2/7/2014 | 20:00 | San Marcos de Arica | H | 1 - 1 | Diego Silva (pen 40) | Chile Cup Grp G | Sun, 6/7/2014 | 15:30 | Deportes La Serena | A | 0 - 0 | | Chile Cup Grp G | Sun, 13/7/2014 | 15:30 | Santiago Morning | A | 1 - 3 | Jair Reinoso (21) | Chile Cup Grp G | Wed, 16/7/2014 | 20:00 | Deportes La Serena | H | 3 - 1 | Diego Silva (pen 12), Cristian Gaitán (14), Jair Reinoso (42) | Chile Cup Grp G | Sun, 20/7/2014 | 15:30 | San Marcos de Arica | A | 4 - 1 | Santiago Barboza (24, 38, 72), Rodrigo Gattas (82) | Chile Cup Grp G | Wed, 23/7/2014 | 20:00 | Santiago Morning | H | 4 - 1 | Santiago Barboza (22, 26), Ignacio Herrera (29, 82) | Chile Cup Grp G | Wed, 10/9/2014 | 19:30 | Deportes Iquique | A | 1 - 3 | Rodrigo Gattas (7) | Chile Cup 2nd Rnd Leg 1 | Wed, 15/10/2014 | 19:30 | Deportes Iquique | H | 1 - 0 | Diego Silva (pen 60) | Chile Cup 2nd Rnd Leg

A mixed bag but all in all, something is there and its build able. At the back we impressed in the main and bar a few humblings at the wrong time, we looked solid. The keepers shared duties, but in the end Contreras looks to be our number 1. Whilst in the back 4, Diego Silva marshalled things as youngsters Galvez and Ramirez stepped up and pegged holes when needed. Across the middle is on loan Rodrigo Gattas that impressed with his creativity and it will be a challenge to try and hold on to him for next season. On the other wing Gaitan did all the damage and has admirers from further afield already hovering around the stands. Up top and its a case of Herrera and Barboza doing all the good work, plenty of goals and plenty of life in both of them. I expect they will test bigger and better things soon enough... but I hope for at least another campaign with the duo in Chile. bestbrother
Season 2015/2016 Review: Expections: Board: Be Competitive Personal: Qualify for Copa Sudamericana The reality was we were the 3rd best team in Chile last year, we should and possibly could have won one of the Titles but in the end fell short. Ideally we should at leas make the Liguilla in one of the stages if not both and hopefully go one step further and make the Copa Libertadores for 2016. Pre-Season 7 players would be added to the books as more than double that would leave the club in a revamp of the squad. The idea was too add more quality in our depth, rather than just have numbers. We would look to the rest of the continent as Almeida and Carvallho would arrive from Brazil, whilst Alex Jara (ARG) and Nicolas Diaz (URU) would complete the set. We would raise roughly $400K in sales, notably from Jose Perez making a $200K + move to Nacional (URU). However in the main we kept hold of the squad that had achieved last season. Primera Division de Chile Apertura We started well, infact it was fantastic as we racked up 3 wins and 13 goals that included a 6-1 away win at Union La Calera to put us firmly on top. Unfortunately we would go on to pick up just 4pts from our next 9 games and essentially ruin our season and leave us making up the numebrs for the final month of the campaign. We managed to turn things around in the run in by winning 3 of 5 games and finding our scoring boots once again, with 4 slotted past both O'Higgins and Everton (CHI). But it wasnt enough to take us anything more than mid-table and need a re-think as we head into the Clausura Championship. | Pos | Inf | Team | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1st | C | Colo Colo | 17 | 13 | 2 | 2 | 37 | 10 | 27 | 41 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2nd | | Universidad de Chile | 17 | 11 | 3 | 3 | 26 | 17 | 9 | 36 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 3rd | | Universidad Católica | 17 | 11 | 2 | 4 | 30 | 25 | 5 | 35 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 4th | | Audax Italiano | 17 | 10 | 2 | 5 | 36 | 27 | 9 | 32 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 5th | | O'Higgins | 17 | 8 | 4 | 5 | 28 | 21 | 7 | 28 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 6th | | Santiago Wanderers | 17 | 8 | 4 | 5 | 34 | 28 | 6 | 28 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 7th | | Universidad de Concepción | 17 | 7 | 4 | 6 | 35 | 41 | -6 | 25 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 8th | | Deportes Iquique | 17 | 7 | 3 | 7 | 31 | 26 | 5 | 24 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 9th | | Deportes Antofagasta | 17 | 7 | 3 | 7 | 28 | 29 | -1 | 24 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 10th | | Cobreloa | 17 | 7 | 2 | 8 | 35 | 26 | 9 | 23 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 11th | | Unión Española | 17 | 5 | 7 | 5 | 29 | 24 | 5 | 22 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 12th | | Everton (CHI) | 17 | 5 | 3 | 9 | 31 | 42 | -11 | 18 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 13th | | Unión La Calera | 17 | 5 | 3 | 9 | 19 | 38 | -19 | 18 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 14th | | Ñublense | 17 | 5 | 2 | 10 | 31 | 39 | -8 | 17 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 15th | | Huachipato | 17 | 4 | 4 | 9 | 30 | 31 | -1 | 16 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 16th | | Palestino | 17 | 4 | 4 | 9 | 20 | 28 | -8 | 16 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 17th | | San Marcos de Arica | 17 | 4 | 3 | 10 | 22 | 35 | -13 | 15 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 18th | | Iberia | 17 | 3 | 3 | 11 | 31 | 46 | -15 | 12 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Primera Division de Chile Clausura With hopes high for us to recreate our form of a season past, we instantly disappointed and left ourselves with little chance of making the Liguilla, as we would lose 5 of our opening 6 away games that once again left us in the bottom half of the standings. Finally we would turn things around in the final run-in and push close to 5th place as Colo Colo almost fluffed their lines, but it wasnt to be and although it was a slight improvement over our finish in the Apertura, it wasnt enough to make any difference to the fact that this season was miserable and a write-off for the club. | Pos | Inf | Team | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1st | C | Unión Española | 17 | 13 | 2 | 2 | 44 | 17 | 27 | 41 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2nd | | Audax Italiano | 17 | 12 | 2 | 3 | 36 | 26 | 10 | 38 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 3rd | | Universidad de Chile | 17 | 12 | 1 | 4 | 40 | 17 | 23 | 37 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 4th | | Universidad Católica | 17 | 12 | 1 | 4 | 31 | 15 | 16 | 37 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 5th | | Colo Colo | 17 | 9 | 4 | 4 | 30 | 21 | 9 | 31 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 6th | | San Marcos de Arica | 17 | 9 | 2 | 6 | 32 | 28 | 4 | 29 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 7th | | Cobreloa | 17 | 8 | 3 | 6 | 29 | 24 | 5 | 27 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 8th | | Santiago Wanderers | 17 | 7 | 4 | 6 | 34 | 28 | 6 | 25 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 9th | | Deportes Iquique | 17 | 6 | 5 | 6 | 30 | 27 | 3 | 23 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 10th | | Everton (CHI) | 17 | 5 | 5 | 7 | 23 | 33 | -10 | 20 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 11th | | Ñublense | 17 | 4 | 5 | 8 | 19 | 30 | -11 | 17 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 12th | | O'Higgins | 17 | 3 | 7 | 7 | 17 | 20 | -3 | 16 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 13th | | Deportes Antofagasta | 17 | 4 | 4 | 9 | 22 | 34 | -12 | 16 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 14th | | Universidad de Concepción | 17 | 3 | 6 | 8 | 28 | 33 | -5 | 15 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 15th | | Unión La Calera | 17 | 3 | 6 | 8 | 18 | 34 | -16 | 15 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 16th | R | Palestino | 17 | 4 | 2 | 11 | 23 | 36 | -13 | 14 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 17th | | Huachipato | 17 | 3 | 5 | 9 | 18 | 33 | -15 | 14 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 18th | R | Iberia | 17 | 2 | 4 | 11 | 25 | 43 | -18 | 10 | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Copa Chile Once again we were slow out of the blocks in the Group phase, relying on our home form to edge through as we collected 3 wins from 3 on our own patch. In the last 16 we again faced Deportes Iquique and although we would lose the 1st leg, a 4-1 home win would assert some revenge over the team that had our number in the past year or so. However our run would end in the Quarter Finals, as following a goalless draw in the away leg against Deportes Antofagasta, we would blow our chance by losing 3-2 at home and ending our hopes of silverware. | Date | Time | Opposition | Venue | Result | Goal Scorers | Competition | Wed, 1/7/2015 | 20:00 | Deportes La Serena | H | 1 - 0 | Santiago Barboza (35) | Chile Cup Grp F | Sun, 5/7/2015 | 15:30 | Unión La Calera | A | 0 - 1 | | Chile Cup Grp F | Sun, 12/7/2015 | 15:30 | Deportes Antofagasta | A | 2 - 4 | Ignacio Herrera (7), Nicolás Díaz (45+2) | Chile Cup Grp F | Wed, 15/7/2015 | 20:00 | Unión La Calera | H | 3 - 1 | Angel Cofré (3), Rodrigo Gattas (7), Yashir Pinto (28) | Chile Cup Grp F | Sun, 19/7/2015 | 15:30 | Deportes La Serena | A | 1 - 1 | Nicolás Díaz (38) | Chile Cup Grp F | Wed, 22/7/2015 | 20:00 | Deportes Antofagasta | H | 2 - 1 | Santiago Barboza (3, 60) | Chile Cup Grp F | Wed, 9/9/2015 | 19:30 | Deportes Iquique | A | 1 - 2 | Rodrigo Gattas (23) | Chile Cup 2nd Rnd Leg 1 | Wed, 14/10/2015 | 19:30 | Deportes Iquique | H | 4 - 1 | Rodrigo Gattas (33), Santiago Barboza (81), Nicolás Díaz (83, pen 87) | Chile Cup 2nd Rnd Leg 2 | Wed, 11/11/2015 | 20:00 | Deportes Antofagasta | A | 0 - 0 | | Chile Cup Qtr Final Leg 1 | Thu, 19/11/2015 | 17:00 | Deportes Antofagasta | H | 2 - 3 | Nicolás Díaz (pen 5), Ignacio Herrera (30) | Chile Cup Qtr Final Leg 2 Copa Sudamericana Our brief flirtation in Continental football would end with us failing to win any of our 4 games. We would edge past Penarol in the 1st Preliminary round, as a last strike saw us snatch a 2-2 draw in Uruguay to advance on away goals. Alas in the 2nd Preliminary Round, we would lose at home to Alianza Lima, before almost snatching success in Peru as we led 3-2 before a Suarez 91st minute own goal would put us out. | Date | Time | Opposition| Venue | Result | Goal Scorers | Competition | Tue, 28/7/2015 | 21:00 | Peñarol | H | 1 - 1 | Ignacio Herrera (88) | Copa Sudamericana 1st Pre. Lets look at the positives and firstly its Nicolas Diaz, a new signing and a huge contribution from the left with 18 goals and 15 assists. Gaitan and Gattas again proved their worth with solid efforts, whilst Herrera continued to score goals with another 18 to add to his tally from last year. Overall though everything is mediocre and that showed in our results and end of season performances.
