Training Star glitch?

So, i sacked all the majority of my coaches, as i'm sure everyone does.

Signed a bunch of new better ones, and assigned them to whichever specific area i signed them for.

Then i exit the training screen (in order to check news on the other coaches i have signed) and go back to the coaching screen and the computer has auto assigned the coaches and my star ratings for defending etc are way less than when i assigned them myself

edit: i know this was "a thing" for FM11, but i'd rather turn it off, if that's possible. Or have i missed some "save coaches" button or something?
