SteakAndChips
The Leagues: England, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy and Brazil. The aim: To go from an unemployed manager in Brazil (former Sunday League footballer) to gradually make my way to Europe and dominate club and eventually national football. The beginning:I went on holiday with settings set to apply for any jobs in Brazil and after a year i was offered the job at Ferroviario, a professional, financially insecure club who play in the Ceara State Championship Table which is incedibly one of 16 regional leages in the third tier of Brazilian football. Club History: The club was founded after two amateur soccer teams, named Matapasto and Jurubeba fused, and after RVC (Rede de Viação Cearense, "Cearense Traffic Net"), a railroad company, wanted to have a team playing in Campeonato Cearense. On May 9, 1933 the team was founded as Ferroviário Foot-Ball Club. The club changed its name to Ferroviário Atlético Clube after some time. In 1937, Ferroviário won its first title, the Campeonato Cearense Second Division, being promoted to the following year's first division. In 1945, the club won its first state championship, the Campeonato Cearense, after beating Maguari 3-1 in the final. In 1968, Ferroviário won the Campeonato Cearense without losing a single match. On December 6, 2005, a Ferroviário player, Alessandro, died during a training at Vila Olímpica Elzir Cabral. We have a stadium capacity of 5,000 yet still manage to have two ultra group; Torcida Falange Coral Ultras Resistência Coral. Oh the name means Railway workers in Portuguese. The squad: complete overhaul all players brought in have been on frees or brought in on loan. This is the current squad. http://tinyurl.com/yjsczxk And here are the profiles of my three best players: Dede (handsome boy) http://tinyurl.com/ykso7d5 Edilucio: http://tinyurl.com/yln3rj4 and Tiago Sousa: http://tinyurl.com/yfhdqdd. Oh, this is why I have not spent any more. The man running the club is clearly a plonker. http://tinyurl.com/yzate2o. Note the worm sinking rather quickly and yes I am £650,000 in the red and I am operating at a loss of 365%. The season so far: The media predicted that I would come third and after a pre-season spent what I felt was an excellent squad (four and five stars galore) I realised what i was up against. http://tinyurl.com/ye4p877. Tor a comparison Tiago Sousa is my most valuable player at £85,000 Anyway, I have made a good start to the season and am third about to face the league leaders in the mid-way point championship final (I have no idea how the Brazilian championship works). http://tinyurl.com/ycpnwhk http://tinyurl.com/ycpv98c. As you can see I have a big match coming up and I will keep you all updated with how that goes and how the rest of my season pans out in due course! Thanks for reading and full steam ahead.... WH
Good luck mate, Are you planning to do season updates, monthly or weekly?
SteakAndChips
Cheers . Every six month or so, but if the interest is there I can certainly do them more regularly.
SteakAndChips
I managed to make it past the first two league stages but I was knocked out in the first knockout round on penalties. The game went straight to spot-kicks after 90 minutes in the second leg and I had no idea that they were the rules. A very disappointing end, but my job is 'untouchable' and they are delighted I made the knock-out rounds considering they only wanted me to make the top half of the original league. http://tinyurl.com/ye5r63a here are my fixtures. WH
Maybe you could explain how the league works in Brazil as it always looks rather confusing to me.
SteakAndChips
Maybe you could explain how the league works in Brazil as it always looks rather confusing to me. I'd love to tell you but I have no idea myself. It's ridiculously confusing from my POV
b_marsiaj
I've never played a team from Ceara State, but usually in Brazil there are two different leagues a team can play in. One (normally played early in the year, from around Jan-April) is a State League, where teams play only other teams in their own state. Each state has its own set of rules, and it serves the purpose of determining a state champion (I'm not sure if in FM it has any outcome, but normally it serves the purpose of qualifying for the Brazilian Cup, as well as state bragging rights). Later in the year the team can play in one of the National Leagues (in your case, the Third Division), which is not related at all to the State league of earlier in the year. Promotion from the Third Division takes you to the Second Division, which is a normal league format with fixtures against all other clubs, home and away, promotion for the best and relegation for the worst without group stages and this magical formulas. The First Division is also like that, with the top teams qualifying to the continental competitions (Copa Libertadores for the top teams and then the Copa Sudamericana for some others). I hope you enjoy the ride and better luck next season!
