Game Notes: This is a Liverpool FC save game with the top tier loaded from England, Spain, France and Italy plus a medium database. I will also be using Wally’s update which mainly sorts out the January transfer window. This will probably only span around three seasons and in that time Frodo, with the help of his able assistant Samwise Lee, must win the English Premier Division plus succeed in Europe. Failure to do this will see the evil of the football world secure their realm and the poor little hobbits will lose.

Pre-Season Round Up

Upon arrival Liverpool seemed to me to be a bit thin on the ground in terms of squad size. They also begin the game with quite a few injuries to key players but they should all be back for the start of the season, maybe one or two games in at most. I was certainly bolstered by the transfer of Edin Dzeko who I am a big fan of. In his first game as a Liverpool player he scored three goals against Frieburg. I am very excited about the return of Torres to make them two partners up front. I do however have a headache even without the return of Torres. N’gog and Babel have been playing really well and are really pushing for a first team place. I am very pleased with the lack of goals that we have conceded, just the two against Frieburg plus of course the highly pleasing 21 goals scored in what were all away fixtures.

On a bad note though, I am not very pleased with the performances of Degen at Full Back and I often resorted to bringing him off for Carragher. I simply cannot wait for Johnson to be back to full fitness.

You may or may not have noticed the change of formation back to a standard 4-4-2 which Liverpool have not used for a long time. I thought that the previous formation put a lot of emphasis on the DMs of which we only have Mascherano, Lucas and the youngster Plessis. The standard 4-4-2 fits the squad better with no less than six players who can play in the centre of the park. It also opens up another forward slot for my in-form strikers. I did however mix it up a bit for the Northampton game which saw us facing very weak opposition so I went for that unconventional formation. It was highly aided by the narrow pitch we played on which was the main stimulus for the experiment.
