As far as I can see the Ryzen processor is going to be more performant (and possibly more power efficient if you're away from the wall). That's hardly surprising because it's newer and has more cores. On the other hand, a "new" laptop ought to have a longer warranty and you won't have issues like a partly worn out battery.

Thanks, Gangor. I've taken the risk and gone with the refurb.

Nothing wrong with it.  It's probably seen a price drop as it's a previous generation i7 now, but it looks a good deal for the money to me.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a toss up between that and this refurb Aspire 5: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-5-15.6-refurbished-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-512-gb-ssd-grey-excellent-condition-10246542.html

  3. Hi all, my laptop unexpectedly died this week so on the look out for a new laptop with a £500-600 budget.

Looking for something like a Ryzen 7 or i7 with 16gb of RAM and some form of graphics but finding this a tough criteria to meet. The only one I found that seems to meet the criteria is below, which makes me suspicious that something is wrong with the spec which I'm not seeing: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/asus-vivobook-15-x1500ea-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-black-10240153.html

Any help would be much appreciated.
