  1. I'm going to be travelling with a friend soon on a long flight. We have a network FM22 save and wanted to play on the flight. Problem is, we both have the steam version of the game and as far as i know, we need to be on the internet to play.

I was planning on just creating an AD-HOC wifi network so we're on the same network and play. Is there a way to play a network game when an internet connection is not available, just local network?

Worth noting all bar one is conceeded in the 2nd half and mostly at the 60+ min mark so I think some of this is tired legs. This is probably being exacerbated by a system which is VERY reliant on your right back. You are focusing play down the right but not putting any extra players there if anything having your RW as a IW you are taking players away from the right wing. This will cause even more issues when you lose possession as your entire right flank will be empty and CMs and CBs will have to run out of position to help out.

I'd recommend trying a Carrilero as your RCM (Basically same as his current role but stays wider) and maybe even a stay wider instruction on your RCB will give your RB a lot more support both on and off the ball and hopefully mean your entire team isn't as tired later on

I haven't properly tested these changes you suggested yet. I am going to try to change my RCM to a Car and i'll give my RCB a stay wider instruction and see if it improves my defence. I am concerned however that the stay wider instruction will open up a bigger gap between my CDs and exacerbate the problem I am trying to solve. But if this somehow prevents the pass that splits the defence, I'm all for it!

You said something very interesting, that my formation is extremely reliant on my RB. I never thought of my system in this way. I was under the impression that despite having a IF/IW combination on my AML/R positions, this is still considered a wide system, those players will stay wide until they receive the ball. And once they do, then they will make their runs at goal. In my mind this is what I want them to do and my RB can come higher up and provide a supporting/passing option so my team can maintain possession. And I do see them coming back to defend, but they're not very good at it, just an extra body.

Are you suggesting that I abandon the IW on the right and instead use  a AP/Winger on that role so they stay on the flank permanently with the idea that those players can then provide better support to my FB in the defensive phase? Is a Winger better than a IW defensively?

  3. Unfortunately, the problem still persists, albeit not as drastic as it was at the start of the season.

    Thanks for the video.

It seems that the problem is your offside trap. Did you try without it?

Maybe you should try your IWB def on support too. In my opinion it will cover more your left side.

This exact pattern of play has come up a few times on the forum recently. Your team is pushing up to close down which is leaving space behind for fast players to run into through balls. Typically before the goal happens, you'll see a highlight or two where this pattern of play starts to develop but then fails. Like the opponent's winger is isolated with your fullback and either the pass is bad or your fullback beats them to the ball this time. At the first sign of this pattern, I drop my line of engagement and defensive line to standard. And if my fullback that is being isolated is tired I bring in a sub for them. Since I've started doing this, I've basically stopped conceding these types of goals.

I removed the offside trap, dropped my defensive line to standard, my line of engagement to lower. I set my pressing to standard and removed prevent GK distribution. I am defending narrow.

My hope was to create a defensive block in the middle of the park, avoid getting my guys pulled away by pressing too hard. Unfortunately, this did not work. I still conceded goals in the same manner as above.

My next try was to change my DM position from DM-d to Anchor, I set the individual instruction to press less, NO tight marking, tackle hard. The idea is that he sits in front of and close to the defence so he can maybe cut out the through balls. I also removed the tight marking instructions from both my CD-d so they don't get dragged away from their position.

Alas, this has not worked. I am still conceding goals where diagonal ball comes in and either the their AMR or STR gets behind my LCD and scores. But at least, now the other teams are finding more ways to score than just this one so i suppose that's progress in a way lol

I am now left wondering if the problem is not my tactics and perhaps its just the players I am using.

Tomori is my CDL (the guy who keeps getting beat)
    Lacroix is his partner CDR
    Mbemba is my main RB
    Augello is my LB

I find it hard to believe that my center pairing isn't good enough. They are both very fast, have good acceleration, good in the air, and good positioning.

    Edit: @prched55
You said to look for our my LB getting isolated. I kept a closer eye on him this last game I played and i saw this weird movement from him where he'd drop closer to my CD to cover the gap and then run back out and keep repeating. I realised this was because he had the tight marking instruction which was pulling him wider. I have since turned that off on both my LB & RB. Perhaps this was another cause for the gaps showing up in my defensive line. I will test more and report.

  4. Thanks for the tip. I will try playing without the trap and see if makes a difference.

In the first season, my defence was quiet poor, lost nearly half my away games and always struggled to keep clean sheets at home. I had my DM and both defensive flanks on support.

My defence got better after I switched my DM and my IWB to Defend so I had 4 players that were with defensive duties. I chose the IWB instead of the FB because my left sided CM is on Attack. I figured when he moved up the pitch, he left space behind him. I hoped that my IWB on defend would cover the space that he left behind. I used a DM instead of an Anchor because I wanted the DM to support the IWB on the flanks if needed.

I wanted my right sided full back to be more expansive because I'm trying to create an overload on the right. With the IWB on Defend not pushing too high up, I was hoping to create a lot of space for the CM-a & my IF on the left.

I will certainly try the support role on the IWB and see how it  works. I hadn't really considered it as I was rigidly holding on to the idea that I want to open up as much space as possible for my two goal scorers on the left.

  5. Hello,
I'm in my 2nd season with Newcastle, the team is playing well and I've managed to win 8 of 9 matches so far with 1 draw. I am very happy with how my tactic has played out. However, I have conceded 5 goals so far and all 5 goals have had almost identical build up.

    1. My opponents gain possession and pass the ball about.
    2. The ball eventually falls to one of their CMs.
    3. Either the ST(r) or the AMR makes a run at the space between my two CDs.
    4. My CD(l) is caught out by the through ball and the attacker has a fairly simple goal.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxGoQ8v0ktI

I recorded all the goals and uploaded them to YouTube so everyone can see exactly what happened. I was very surprised to see this pattern repeat itself with different teams.

I've attached screenshots of my tactic. My basic plan was to play the ball out from the back on the right hand side. Hopefully create an overload and draw their team to the right so that my main scorer has some space on the left. While that has worked well so far, I did not expect that I would simultaneously also create a clear weakness in my defence which teams seem to be exploiting well. The problem I have is that I am not sure exactly how to go about fixing this issue. I am not sure what exactly I have done wrong in my defensive setup so I don't know how to approach fixing this. I would appreciate some assistance on figuring out exactly what I have done wrong.

    Explanations for the tactical choices:

    In possession:

    • Short passing + standard temp + Play out of defence
I want the team to not be too hasty and loose possession.
    • Focus Down the right + Overlap + Work ball into box
I want the ball to go down the right hand side but not too fast and hopefully draw as many of their players to the right side of the pitch.

    In Transition:

    • Counter-Press
I want to win the ball back higher up the pitch if possible
    • Don't counter/hold shape
I felt that Counter would push too many players higher up and potentially leave me short handed if I lost possession.
I felt that Holding shape would result in wasting an opportunity if the counter press wins possession
      So let the players decide
    • Slow Down pace + Distribute to back line
Synergy with In Possession instructions of building play slowly from the back

    Out of Possession:

    • Higher LoE & Defensive Line + Trigger press more Often
      Help with Counter press
    • Prevent Short GK Distribution
Hopefully get their GK to kick the ball long where my midfield/Defence can win the aerial battle
    • Standard Defensive Width
No preference yet on if i want to funnel their development down the middle or flanks.

  6. I wanted to know if I was missing a setting or something but despite having setup position based opposition instructions, I have to do the following every game.

All the opposition players default to specific player based instructions which are not set. I have to manually select everyone and then click on one of the Apply position based instructions. Is there a way to automate this? I'd like to have to avoid doing this manually for every game.
