  1. Tried this a few times as YA only and Sammarinese only but always get to a tipping point where the enjoyment fades before the club is capable of competing, decided this year just to focus on getting the club up and running in Europe and dragging the rest of the teams along with me long term.

Been running the San Marino challenge in FM23, playing as Juvenes Dogana (& NT manager) -

About halfway through Season 3 and suffice to say club management is simple, have been raiding the free agent market pretty reliably and have had a strong team in place across all 3 seasons (after my first round of signings I think I was 1-50 on to win the league and has been shorter odds than that since) -

Season 1 - Campionato Sammarinese & Coppa Titano Champions - 58 players signed (15 sold),
Best signing - Seybou Koita - 20 Goals in 15 games - 7.89 Average Rating
    Koita.png.6413af13de0cabbfca823f111642402f.png

Season 2 - Campionato Sammarinese & Coppa Titano Champions again.

Ater falling at the UEFA Champions League 2nd Preliminary Round to Valur (Iceland), proceeded to beat Lincoln (GIB), Rakow (POL) & Shkupi (N.MAC) in the Europa Conference League Qualifier's and qualify for the Europa Conference League group stage, a nice £2m bank balance boost and approx 3-4 seasons earlier than expected.
A Europa League group of Sevilla, Genk and Olimpia meant I didn't hold out much hope of progression but did upset the apple cart a little at home, only losing 2-1 to Sevilla (who scored a 92nd minute winner), and beating Genk & Olimpia 1-0, although despite this we still finished bottom of the group (2nd-4th all had 6 points)

Thanks to the sudden massive boost in funds tried to persuade the board to go Semi-Professional but was turned down, much to my frustration, did get a couple of youth and training upgrades through though.

    38 players signed (44 sold)
Best signing - Andres Garcia - 31 Goals in 23 games - 7.62 average rating
    Garcia.png.105c995b0f727b9b5992a0ef46ae5c93.png

Season 3 - 17 players signed so far (11 sold)

Beginning of season 3 and the board came and offered an upgrade, always expect these to be increased wages for Physio's or some such nonsense, in this instance I was pleasantly surprised as they requested to turn Professional skipping Semi-Professional altogether, which I have never seen in all my years of FM.

Able to tie some of my key players down to contracts, but have been very stringent with the budget and have set £1,600k p/w as max wage I will pay (before the CL qualification), means half our players are still on Amateur contracts, but have been buying any promising 16/17yo San Marino youth players to try and improve them and drag the National team up a level as well in the next year or two.

Still the lowest ranked nation in UEFA club co-efficients, so taking the long route to European qualification but suffice to say the boys were up to the challenge...

    ChampionsLeague.png.bab99a7b4a4933d033124e1226db8ce0.png

Qualifying for the group stage of the new Champions League, an unexpected £12m payday that should secure the future of the club for many years to come.
Blessed with trips to Monaco, Astana, Dortmund & Juventus, while welcoming Wolfsburg, Real Madrid, Benfica & Lazio.

Arguably the crowning moment of the season so far, a 3-2 win against Wolfsburg in our first ever CL game proper, after being 2-0 down at HT. Lost 5-0 away in Monaco before turning over Astana 3-1. We sit 16th after 3 games above such notable names as Juve, Napoli, Real Madrid, Dortmund, Arsenal and Liverpool, crazy.

Kicked off the league winning 11-0 and 10-0 in our first two games. something tells me I'm on for a three-peat.

Yes, but not as a zero-sum.  Generally France isn't competing with Algeria for players (I mean, they are, but that's already sort of modeled in-game).  It's football competing with rugby, handball, basketball and other domestic activities. So increases in Country A don't necessarily need to be linked to decreases in Country B -- in fact, increases in Country A could theoretically lead to increases in nations associated with Country A.  French success could lead to an increase in French Guiana, Dutch success as a boost for Suriname...  A rising tide might not lift all boats, but maybe some of them!

Oh I agree, just as English success may lead to other home nation children becoming determined to see their country prevent that (or some such).

I was caught between explaining an idea and trying to prevent my post becoming too long.

Its attempting to tread the line between reality and the game. i.e FM doesn't consider length of time passed alongside the development of countries/or the potential fluidity of economic factor and rather has fixed values, for instance under./over achievement on the international stage could trigger an international FA investing into grassroots (increasing FA Financial Power) to somewhat counteract the reduction in NYR or boost it further, or vice versa and reducing funding.
Game Importance increasing if a country does progressively better as more people tune in.

Its truthfully all hypothetical, just different ways to look at the problem.

I'm currently in 2039 in Latvia so that might as well be your control. NYR has gone up to 65, but hasn't changed in a few years now and I just won Champions League. I suspect the minimal increase is due to me signing a bunch of foreigners over the last 10 years, which I haven't done lately as my scouting has gotten more accurate. Might as well give it a go and just sign 40-50 wonderkids next off-season to see whether it does anything. Seeing as I'm required to have half my squad be Latvian though Latvia looks kinda doomed for developing youth rating.

Thanks, you've saved me and my slow as laptop about 7 hours of staring at the progression screen.

I think, what "we" hoped/anticipated the DYR was going to be and what it is are opposite ends of the same street.

I think that a majority of people are satisfied with the YR system in historical versions of FM and this is a step into the unknown for SI, hence the seeming glacial rate of change to NYR.

I'd say we know more than we knew yesterday, and although one swallow does not a summer make, we can seemingly force NYR improvement for our countries of choice by making the changes I have, albeit by changing fixed stats that I'm unsure what affect this would have in game truthfully.

If we can find a way to "supercharge" this increase, i.e double it by creating a perfect set of circumstances, then it would perhaps mean we can take more enjoyment from committing to the longer saves we are either already doing or planning.

I guess there needs to be a finite number of NYR points to go around, SI don't want every country with 200 NYR but perhaps performances on the international stage could have more of an impact over the next 5 year period say.

I would say for a young person to be captivated by international success, the change in interest is more in the 10-14 age group rather than 6-9 (captivated yes, likely to retain interest - probably not) or 15-18 (again captivated yes, but a reduce difference in potential ability vs 10-14 year olds), meaning a progressive growth from the start of international success (relative to the countries current success levels) would be interesting.

For any country to win the WC/Euro's is a massive achievement and should generate a boost in YR, for a smaller nation (San Marino/Latvia/Scotland) to win their Nations League, Qualify for a Major Tournament should trigger some additional YR, then it just needs to be adjusted/pro-rata'd depending on current NYR rating and implemented over a 5 or so year period. I realise this is talking implementation on an idea that I have rather than an SI idea but just seems this would be the best solution to the question at hand.

Plus for every successful country there is a country that underachieves and could see the reverse.

  4. Hi All,

Following the DYR "reveal" in the bugs thread yesterday, I've been running a holiday save on FM22.2 in Latvia as follows -

    Large Database

    Latvia as the only league

I took Latvia's existing SoD/EF/FAFP/GI (Developing/14/10/Important) and increased them to the max level across the board, I have then tracked the NYR to see what development there is.

I have made no adjustments at club level regarding Training facilities/Youth Facilities/Coaching/Youth Recruitment.

I have also added a few other countries to the spreadsheet after 15 years (it didn't occur to me prior to this truthfully - but thought it may direct me as to why the increases have occurred),

    245284364_LatviaTest.png.adf0732ce34e0aaaa1f661b780a5a6cc.png

As we can see Latvia have improved at a similar rate to the 2 other major developers and overall a couple of rises but no drops on the other countries I've reviewed. I've also added the results of the WC & Euros since 2020.

SI advised it wasn't relevant to National Team Ranking, Holland who have had prolonged success on the international scene are still 100 NYR which indicates to me this is true (not that I believed them to be lying).

    2081931105_LatviaEURO.png.685c97798cebd7628211472d6b2525c1.png1359547682_LatviaWC.png.3933d311a83012ac4b44c157992b9272.png

On a European front, from a quick look Latvian clubs have progressively done worse in Europe from qualifying yearly for Europa League/Conference League to not progressed beyond qualifying for either the Champions League or Europa League, with few ventures into the Conference League, and have seen minimal increases in training/youth facilities & youth recruitment (+1 on all over the 20 years for the most successful club).

But given the success on Spanish teams on the European stage (4 in the top 10 European Coefficients) I'd presume Club European/International performance isn't affecting anything either.

I've considered running a control version but I expect there would be no or minimal changes to NYR in Latvia.

As the changes I have made are, AFAIK, fixed values that do not change during the game, (all countries SoD/EF/FAFP/GI are the same on a new game as they are in 2041) do we have any other ideas where the "decision" is made aside RNG.

Hope this helps, even if it just shows what we want to improve to create "our" realistic DYR.

    Edit - "Improved" English.

  5. Hi All,

Any assistance would be much appreciated, after many years of trudging along with each new FM on my aging laptop I feel it has come time to upgrade, I have created two laptops (custom built), one AMD, one Intel and am hoping that you may be able to assist in advising the best option for me with FM in mind, and even possibly for other games (see below).

For a bit more clarity the laptop will be used predominantly for gaming but with multiple apps running simultaneously generally, any other gaming would more on the management/sim side/strategy/CRPG's (i.e Cities Skylines as I've not played and want to) rather than FPS's (EFT/Valorant maybe at a push as not available on console) presently, but with the option to play other games when released in the future. I know that throws a rather large caveat in but I won't be looking for Ultra HD Graphics at any point, and would just like games to run smoothly and for FM specifically, process more leagues in a quicker time, I understand this is all relative, what is quick for one person isn't necessarily quick enough for someone else, but with a generic league setup, just to progress through a season with some speed.

Know the RAM is 100% overkill but the cost now versus the need to upgrade at a later date is pushing me towards it.

  6. Before the end of season two we had the small matter of the madness of European qualification, first game 22nd June, near 3 months before the start of the season. After failing to progress beyond the first preliminary round in our first venture onto European competition and the board expecting us to reach the first round of qualifying proper, the boys performed admirably.

    First Preliminary Round

Suffice to say we did it in style in the preliminary rounds, on to the new season (officially) and the rest of qualification -

    1094084269_SocietSportivaSanGiovanni_Fixtures.thumb.png.520121431e143ed248da247d8f970bf6.png

Not sure where we fall in the scheme of things but definitely feel we out-performed my expectations to reach the Europa Conference League Group stages, our reward trips to Nice, Plovdiv & Koprivnica.

     620155356_UEFAEuropaConferenceLeague_Stages.thumb.png.42ee3fb81ae52a6f1b86e4d4c2c31c7c.png

The £2.5m payday enabled an increase in training facilities (£750k), although they won't start construction until next off season, time to see if I can turn semi-professional in the meantime.

  7. End of season two, out in the Preliminary qualifiers for the CL - Glenavon (0-1) then in the Europa League qualifiers to FCI Levadia (4-2 agg.) , but both provided a healthy boost to finances. Won 18, Drew 1, Lost 1 over both stages of the season, but comfortably won both 1st Phase and subsequently Group 1, can either see my tactic is being adapted to or teams are picking up better players on free signings as we weren't as good towards the end of this season. 3 players scored 20 goals across all competitions but not taking our chances certainly noticeable in our draw and defeat.

Scoured the other San Marino teams for any sign of talent (I love free transfers with no wages), and picked up a couple of Sammarinese international prospects on loan from Italy (Fabbri & Capicchioni).

The finance boost allowed some investment into club structure (Youth Facilities x2, Training Facilities x1, Youth Recruitment and Junior Coaching x2), hopeful the next financial boost will allow a further Training Facilities upgrade then possibly looking at turning Semi-Professional (not financially viable according to the board).

Couple of updates, including one I missed first time.

    Have a player score a hat-trick in a game:

  8. After having some success in FM18 managing in the San Marino League decided to give this a crack in FM20. Last time round I did YA only, this time have made it a little easier and using purely San Marino players (outside those in my starting squad), after completion of season one have managed to complete a few of the challenges

    Win a game (!):
Win a competitive game (includes Nations League):
