    That’s impressive, congratulations!

Are you now at a stage where players with dual citizenship chooses San Marino over Italy?

Some players yes, but not the best. Usually when they reach 24-25yo and still don't have an international game with Italy, they sometimes come and play for San Marino instead. But they're not exactly starting 11 players anyway. The only one that made a difference was Marco Tisseli (his player profile is on a post above on this page).

I've had a weird issue with 2 naturalised players though. San Marino does not produce a lot of good keepers, but I managed to get 2 naturalised after 12 years playing in the league. They accepted to represent the country and I took them for the World Cup. I didn't give them any game time but technically they are World Champions. Anyway, after the competition they refused to come back in the national team and they are now considered Italians again.

A while back I also had the issue of a young player who decided to switch nationalities even though he had a few appearances with the San Marino team. He came back a few years later though.

  2. Oops, I did it again.

    Oops.PNG.8040c92424dc0418e10a008cc147fd0e.PNG

An easy straightforward run to the final that allowed me to put good rotation and keep my best players fresh throughout the whole competition. B team played South Korea, then all of the games were decided at half time during the whole playoffs until the final.

The team was carried by this player who scored 11 goals in the competition.

     image_2023-11-22_113033251.png.e1a38f506b8181990b3e15361956e104.png

The team now has 14 straight victories in the World Cup, which is a record. I thought this would be my last WC but I might push for the next one, see what happens. A new generation is coming in, probably a bit better than the generation that is now retiring.

  3. They have done it ...

    image_2023-11-03_142718200.png.bf2baf519bef6bfb7512d5a524946822.png

It comes as a bit of a surprise, my personal goal was to reach the 1/4 finals for the first time ever and preparing for what I believed could be a potential victory in the next WC with a golden generation coming in.  But anyway, I enjoyed a fairly "easy" run until the 1/4 finals, I had the opportunity to put a good rotation in place and so my best players were all fresh for the last 3 games, which may have made a difference.

I've always felt that some weird things happen sometimes in big Tournaments. I didn't just win those games, I dominated the xG/shots game. Here's the stats for the semi against England for instance:

    image_2023-11-03_143326894.png.83982003df8052af72140689fee8f644.png

To be clear, one of my DCs scored 5 goals in the playoff stage and yes, I do (ab)use a Corner formation that allows him to score quite a lot.

Here are the key players of the team:

    Berardi.PNG.6e4cf9eec0d6f72793057de8914363f6.PNG

    DeLuigi.PNG.9342b71e85aca52ff9d14bf273063f10.PNG

    DiVincenzo.PNG.52632ecc98f38abf83c457cb9e24e082.PNG

    Selva.PNG.34eba13cb2f34b6e9f54522344fd1560.PNG

    Tisselli.PNG.136933331a004754b1de4258fc671340.PNG

Next to them I have an interesting supporting cast. A group of maybe 12 players, roughly at the same level that are a bit interchangeable. This allows the team to stay roughly at the same level when I go into rotation mode. They're not world beaters by any means but are capable to hold the fort when required.

For me the key point to doing this challenge is to go to Victor at some point, win a few Serie A, a few Champion's leagues, because they will absolutely produce incredible players for you. In my 26 players squad for this WC, 19 of them were produced by Victor. Half of those players being produced during my time over there when I was winning everything. Doing this challenge without improving Victor's status seems next to impossible to me when I see all the players they've given me. Even many, many seasons after I left, they still produce future superstars such as this guy:

    Gualtieri.PNG.dc976d7d1ef59af569d2eb637eae03dd.PNG

With the San Marinese teams, I have occasionally produced great players (Di Vincenzo, for instance), but not consistently. I have also struggled during the whole game to have 2 San Marinese clubs capable of producing world class players simultaneously. Even if it is possible to produce those great players, it's a lot more unreliable than what Victor can do. In any case, to me it looks like there is a direct correlation between the results of a club in European Competition, and the level of players this club produces. The year after a European win, I always had at least one superb player generated at my club.

So with this, this is the end of this challenge for me. I'll keep managing the San Marino national team for a bit, but I'm going to stop focusing on them. I've never won the Nation's League, never been world #1, but that's ok. Good luck to everyone.

Blimey @jerzy59. I've no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I'm 40 odd years in now, with perfect youth facilities and great coaches, etc at 2 clubs now (Tre Penne and Tre Fiori), and haven't had any players anywhere near that standard. Really frustrating on my side but great work on yours.

Right now I have 3 teams with perfect facilities in the San Marino league + Victor in Serie A. Inter also has produced a really good youngster for San Marino recently.

I have noticed that every time a club performs well in Europe, their next youth intake has at least a very good youngster. In any case, with those 4 clubs there's pretty much one very promising player coming up every year.

We have done it. 8 years after losing in the Finale, San Marino is European Champion. It was the last major competition for the players of the first great generation and they retired with a bang. I didn't think I'd be able to go that far with a team that's in between generations. The group stage was what I expected, tough games against teams that I used to beat. I can't really explain how the team transformed into machines once we reached the playoff stage.

And to top off an amazing season

    Wesh..PNG.91e31968dc1f690f27b31c01709df50e.PNG

I won the Conference League with Tre Fiori.

  6. I have left Victor to go back to the San Marinese league. The regens Victor has produced since I have left are incredible. Way better than those produced when I was there. It was the same at the beginning after I left Cosmos.

The national team is in good shape and the future looks promising. Qualifying for the European Championship is pretty much a given now and I have won my Division A Nation's League group 3 times in a row. The team isn't strong enough to win the competition though and I finish 3rd or 4th.

Bit annoyed that the National Team still plays in the San Marino Stadium. Victor now has a 35000 seat stadium and it would be nice to play there.

@jerzy Can you see your youth rating in the editor?

Through Genie Scout yes. It's 36. And reputation is 6500.

Youth Rating is important but it's clearly not everything. If you were to set Brazil's youth rating to 1 and Bhutan's youth rating to 200, Brazil would still produce the better players. Reputation clearly has something to do with it at country level. I'm not entirely sure what comes into play at club level, but as I said, I have a suspicion that performances in European competitions have a strong effect.

  8. San Marino qualified for their third international tournament, the 2044 European Championship. And we did fairly well.

    Results.PNG.7a5421c6f24719dcd3445b5200e8ebbe.PNG

Solid group stage. Very surprised that the B Squad managed to grab a draw against Spain. We finished first and then beat Scotland in a game that should not have been that tight. Bit frustrated with the loss to Germany, I was dominating the game until my center back got a red card at the end of the first half. From there it was too difficult to do anything really. France won the tournament.

With this,  San Marino is now sitting at 29th in the World Rankings.

Here's the key players of the team.

    Piacentini.PNG.ba6b0490413b271892270b57b220af21.PNG

Andrea Piacentini Produced by Cosmos. The Superstar. Current Golden Ball holder. Cosmos produced him the season after I left. I managed to get him at Victor and he grew with the team.

    Finardi.PNG.f38c5d19d50a6e20500c2983f2f595e6.PNG

Riccardo Finardi: Produced by Cosmos. The first world class player produced by a Sanmarinese team. He was paramount to get the team in the Top 100 in the World Rankings and now he also get to play major tournaments. He's nearing the end of his career and will be difficult to replace.

    Barberio.PNG.bdd4d3e4fc9f6e857dcd7d00c2154c5f.PNG

Pierangelo Barberio: Produced by Cosmos. Well, this guy appeared right when Colombo, the former GK, was retiring. 20 international goals as he's my penalty taker for absolutely no reason. He scored one in the 2040 Euro final. I'm lucky with this guy as the country has failed to produce any other decent keeper. Should be in the team for 10 more seasons. Will likely reach 200 caps.

    Bottone.PNG.e22806c5df2aa446c068fdc987481449.PNG

Giovanni Bottone: Produced by Cosmos. I poached him as soon as Cosmos produced him and trained him myself. Solid striker. This player pretty much forced me to play with 2 guys up front, which has been going well anyway.

    Zavoli.PNG.c2dbc724ce512e74bdae7973360974d4.PNG

Alberto Zavoli: Produced by San Marino Academy. I poached him as I was still coaching Cosmos. Part of the first generation that helped with winning the Nation's League C and B.

    Imperiale.PNG.5460db94c339e8e25488f4eed007cfe6.PNG

Michele Imperiale: Produced by Cosmos. Produced the same year as Finardi. Also part of the backbone of the national team.

    Ceccoli.PNG.1acc108d73485f0326e28218dea5e5f9.PNG

Riccardo Ceccoli: Produced by San Marino Academy. He's not really a key player anymore, but he's a Legend. Paramount in all the early success and the growing process. I still start him in friendlies to have him reach 150 international goals.

Some of those players are getting towards the end of their career and will have to be replaced. With Victor, I'm starting to get decent prospects for the future. Maybe not at that level just yet but it's looking alright. Cosmos, however, has not produced anyone interesting in a few years now.

Which leads me to an observation. I have discussed this with people doing a similar save in countries like Liechtenstein and Faroe Islands. The quality of the players that are produced seems to be directly related to how the clubs from that country are doing as a whole in European Competitions. It seemed weird to me at first, but when it was brought up to my attention, I made the same observation. In essence, all those players here were produced when San Marino only had 3 teams going into European Cups. Then, with good performances from Cosmos (they still reach the CL Group Stage 12 years after I'm gone) a 4th team started to play the Conference League. They never did well though, so the average performance from San Marinese clubs dropped. And the quality of players produced also dropped. Then with Victor, I've had everything maxed out for a while now (except the usual youth academy that no one can max out anyway) but never really produced anyone interesting ... until I reached the Champion's League final. The quality of the players Victor produced has massively improved since. I did not change my HoYD, didn't have any more increase in infrastructure and such. I really seems like European performances boost massively the quality of players.

Everything is going well with Victor. I've won 4 Serie A in a row, 3 cups and the Champion's League. I'm getting confident that the club will survive without me so I'm probably going to go back to the San Marinese league to improve other clubs. Maybe try to have 4-5 clubs maxed out, see if it helps.

Okay interesting, how good were your facilities at that point?

I have maxed out training, youth recruitment and junior coaching, with 2.5* youth facilities now and some brilliant youth coaches, but just nothing coming through. Even reached the Round of 16 in the CL with Tre Penne this season - really frustrating.

I had everything maxed out except the youth facilities (there's some issues around those).

Do you also have a good Head of Youth Development ?

  10. On 07/06/2023 at 15:44, foolsgold said:

Yep I'm now over a decade in with Tre Penne and I must admit it's getting a little stale...

I've previously had success with the San Marino challenge by taking over San Marino Calcio in the Italian leagues and having a super long-term save with them. Decent San Marino regens came through and all was fine.

The issue here is that I'm yet to have a decent Sammarinese regen come through at all in over 10 years, and that's despite upping the youth recruitment and junior coaching to the max. I'm now in the CL group stages every year, and have made the knockouts once, so the club is in good health with perfect training facilities and a ton of money (although still only 2* youth facilities). But I wonder if there is just an inherent in-game feature meaning you will never get a decent Sammarinese regen through in the Sammarinese league, no matter how good your youth recruitment/coaching and youth coaches are.

    Has anyone found any different?

I did 10 years at Cosmos and after 5 seasons I started to produce at least one "good player" (for the San Marinese standard) per season. Even produced a proper wunderkid at one point. Around that time, San Marino Academy also was producing useful players for the national team. Then I moved to Victor San Marino and at that point for a few seasons, Cosmos started to produce a major player every season.

I'm now 10 years in at Victor and I'm starting to produce decent level players.

Made it to Serie B with Victor San Marino, really enjoying this challenge, but my finances are nowhere near what I'd hoped in Serie B.

I've just made it to January and am £250k in the red!

I was hoping that Serie B would see me more profitable to have some cash to improve the training/youth facilities and sign players for a fee.

Guessing this only happens in Serie A?

When I was on my way up I definitely had the feeling that staying more than two seasons in Serie B might very well bankrupt the club. At that stage you don't have enough money to get a new stadium, your 700 seater doesn't generate any money and the prize pool in Serie B isn't all that great either. And because of the balance always being slightly in the red, you can't really improve your facilities either.

  12. Historic day for San Marino !

The team did an incredible job in away games with massive victories in Turkey and Netherlands. Getting the upper hand against Turkey in those games was crucial as it allowed us to stay in front of them almost the whole time. The victory in the Netherlands was the cherry on the cake.

    Classement.PNG.44a04b639e6dd3bacd20e87ee9dac6e8.PNG

With that, we're now sitting 80th in the world rankings. I'm hope we can get out of the group stage during the European Championship and keep on improving the ranking to get an "easier" group for the WC Qualifiers.

    Hello,

Are there people than can upgrade the youth facilities because after one update i cannot update anymore for 5 years.

How many years do i wait to update?

I have everything excellent but i cannot upgrade the youth facilities only the senior facilities

Are there more peeple that have that problem?

Yeah I ran into this issue, first with Cosmos, then with Victor after I moved there. Getting the first few in is ok, but at some point the option to keep upgrading does not appear anymore. Apparently it is related to having a new stadium being built.

  14. 7 hours ago, G_D_K said:

The real problem facing me now is the bug that occurred at the end of the previous season --- we are now operating out of Aquaviva --- a 750 capacity stadium, and are losing money to the tune of about 80k€/month.  That was after playing our first serie B season in the San Marino National team stadium and packing about 2200/match.  We had a takeover (after two or three failed attempts during this past season), which put us in the positive for about two months, at the cost of a 1.4M€ loan against the club for which we are now paying a 16K€/month payment.  That means this coming season we'll be losing about 100k€/mo....something not sustainable.

I was fortunate enough to only spend a year in the Serie B with Victor but I did notice the same things. I was losing money left and right until I reached Serie A.

I’ve never got past season 7 on this challenge in past FM’s, so I’ve never won the World Cup, or the Champions League. Not even come close.

Can anyone tell me, is it possible to ever get a decent sized stadium or even a new sized stadium? Do attendances ever increase due to the club getting a much better reputation?

I’m going to start a save later, probably Cailungo. I’d love to get to 30-40 seasons this time though.

When I was at Cosmos I had a new stadium build, 5000 seats, so not exactly big. I was only filling it to capacity in the Champion's League.

At Victor I have a 15000 seats stadium currently being build, not too sure how full it will be in Serie A games.

  16. My 11th season is in the books and boy, some exciting things are happening.

I moved to Victor San Marino and easily won the Excellenza league I was in. And as expected, the people who took over at Cosmos dismantled the team and I must admit it had a massive positive impact on the San Marinese national team as few of the youngsters have moved to bigger clubs and they are improving fast.

    Zavoli.PNG.4c421aab1549bfb863d7785959c2399a.PNG

Those 3 have massively improved, probably from moving to bigger clubs. And so ...

    LDN.PNG.475b8ac6d39a43f8662f26d8d0987152.PNG

Did well in the Nation's League. Was kind of hoping I could beat Kosovo but they easily won the group, winning their 6 games.

Then the qualifiers for the World Cup started.

    Rersults.PNG.af74132d949b3adaee03822ca43b55e7.PNG

Some amazing results here, but the worst part is I'm actually disappointed to have only drew to Czech Republic and Georgia. Against the former, they received a red card in the very first minute, played all game 11v10, scored first but conceded a late equalizer. Against Georgia away I was up 2-0 at the 75th and I'm feeling a bit like those two are massive missed opportunities. Also, not sure how I managed that against Guam

    CDM.PNG.c89255aa7aa6e40ab2e89c985ea75bc9.PNG

We stand 2nd in our group and the two home games to come against Czech Republic and Romania are going to be absolutely massive. I probably need 6 points to sneak into the best 2nd and that's unlikely but it's awesome to be in this position late in the group stage.

At this stage I'm probably one or two solid players away from maybe qualifying to a European Championship. The latest youth intake produced a very promising GK coming from Cosmos. The future of the national team looks bright.

  17. I finally played my 10th and last season with Cosmos. Decided to leave and go to Victor San Marino, see how it goes over there. I guess I got a bit annoyed at losing some of my best players without my say so. I feel the team was financially sound enough to not have to sell my best player for 3 millions outside of a market window.

    Classement.png.707f1b57cc544f4cae63a7d07b3da84e.png

Easy win in the League. Didn't beat any team record but my Sanmarinese striker Ceccoli beat the record for number of goals with a nice 53. Won the Cup and the Trofeo also.

    LDC.PNG.16ef6bb1767993caed2dbab502407809.PNG

Bit of a tough draw in the Champion's League but some good results anyway.

I leave the team with everything maxed out except the youth training facilities. I'll be curious to see how the AI is going to destroy everything I did during those 10 seasons. Hopefully the club can keep producing an occasional good player for me to play with the national team.

    Speaking of which:

    325424263_SMResult.PNG.613de8f878782b333ca30bc1a786f6b6.PNG

A little bit disappointed to have lost in Luxemburg, but winning those two home games was important. I think Macedonia is the highest ranked team that I have beat.

    1140114371_SMGrtoup.PNG.e51bf4134f844b1a492f5ed0272dfe74.PNG

    Amicaux.PNG.2fe082e2e643cc272555cad427e8c48f.PNG

Solid results in the Friendlies. We're now 160 in the rankings. Unfortunately there hasn't been anyone interesting in this year's youth intake. So probably a bit of stagnation coming unless some of the youngster keep improving (some of them seem to have hit their potential recently).
