You hired him. He works under you, and you have allocated these roles to him. Therefore, the buck stops with you.

I don't get the sense that if I hired any other GM they would do anything differently. Also I gave the role to hire everyone to the President who first hired the General Manager. So I didn't really hire anyone at all. Plus I'm pretty sure the President is above me in the totem pole.

  2. Hi everyone,

I recently started playing FM2017 cause that's the latest version I have and I've hit an interesting snag: I wanted to avoid having to deal with any of the finances so I give all of the financial responsibilities to the President. We were already at full payroll so I figured it'd stop there until the financial situation improves. But he then hired a General Manager and I handed all of the responsibilities to him. Half a season later the guy hired bunch of staff and a couple players and we're about 1.5x times over payroll (our financials have gone below 0) and the board is giving me the following: "Their main complaint is that you have not taken tough enough measures over the size of the club's payroll." So... since other staff is responsible for the payroll hires/fires - why is the board angry with me about it? Why did the President and General Manager go so far over the payroll?

My main question if this problem still exists in FM2020? Have you guys tried starting with a small money team (I did Bukovina in the Ukrainian 2nd division) and let AI control the finances?

  3. I have a youngster who came through my academy and was labelled one of the best players of his generation. I put him on the youth and then development training schedules when he reached 17 but his stats have not moved at all in over a year. the only thing that has gone up a bit is determination through mentoring (which is now at 18).

Other youngsters seem to be progressing fine.

Does anyone have a theory on what is going wrong with my guy?

As i said he has high determination, his character is determined, high work rate, happy with his training, high potential from my scouts and no problems with work ethic identified by my scouts. He has been making the odd appearance for the 1st team from the bench and is a regular for the reserves. he's certainly getting as much if not more 1st team expsure than other youngsters who seem to be progressing well even though my scouts suggest their pa is nowhere near as high as my man.

    Any ideas?

What is his mentality? He likely has poor values in key hidden attributes: Professionalism and Ambition. Tutoring him probably helped him a little bit unless the player you tutored him with had low values in that as well. After he's done being tutored by the current guy you can try getting him tutored by a player with a high Professionalism mentality such as 'Fairly Professional, Professional or Spirited'. There's a couple of others but I don't remember them off the top of my head, you'll need to look em up in the Mentality thread. Barring that you can try to play him even more and hope of the the best, or try to cut your losses and try to sell him, as a high potential youngster he's likely to sell decentely.

  4. Not sure. I put my target men on STR and other forwards on Cf, following the old Fm logic of ST/FC.

Really? I always assumed it was the other way around since a Center Forward is normally used to hold the ball and distribute it in advanced areas (what you would expect a Target Man to do) while non-creative Strikers are expected to run onto the ball and score with it.

Either way, I just put all my CFs and STs on the Striker training schedule as I want their Shooting/Attacking attributes to be as high as possible.

  5. Therefore provided it didnt drop too low, the difference in additional CA from training alone would be minimal, and if it meant players were fresher, played better, got injured less and possibly had better morale it would probably be worth it in certain circumstances.

It could be worth considering if you have a young Ledley King or James Vaughan!

You're probably right, but remember that his test was done with FM09 and on 18 year olds with 20 Professionalism, Ambition and Work Rate. It's possible that this works differently in FM10.3, or that older or less Mentally gifted players need higher levels of training to improve.

  6. On a side note, does anyone really know the amount of CA that can be gained through training (or even if it can at all?!). I have read on here that it is only a very small gain (as opposed to match experience CA gain) but would it be worth toning down some of the schedules to definately avoid injuries and excessive tiring (especially in congested times or if you have a smaller squad).

For example the developing CF schedule has the following focus:

    Str - 4

    Aer - 4

    Tac - 3

    BC - 3

    Def - 2

    Att - 3

    Sho - 4

    SP - 0

In theory could this be halved and still produce the same results?

Catafan did a study on FM09 where among other things he found increased training levels did affect stat increases, just not as much as one expected.

    Here's a graph he provided (source: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=111311):

  7. I've saved the training scheduals in the scheduals folder but when I go on the game and try to upload the scheduals there is nothing there, any ideas why?

Its a way the game is installed on your computer, usually there's a bunch of the files saved where you told it to save it, but also a whole bunch of files in the Documents folder somewhere. Usually the files in the Documents folder are the ones that are used when looking up training schedules/tactics etc. So when you're trying to import these trainings, click on the folder you're looking in to see the whole path to that folder and you'll see it's looking in the wrong training folder, after you point it to the correct one you'll see the trainings there.

  8. Ah dammit. I deleted the injury schedules cos I didn't understand them. Now I've got players coming back after 2-3 weeks out and promptly getting injured in their first first team game back :(

As far as I remember they're pretty intense too since SFraser was trying to force the recovery or "saving" of physical attributes via the injury recovery schedules. So to do that he had to make them very physically intensive and that can lead to a quick injury once more.
