  1. Any thoughts on why players just run to the corner with the ball despite having a numerical advantage on the break?

That's actually something that gets mentioned quite often in this forum. It might be a flaw of the match engine where they play too selfishly in such situations, but it may also depend on their instructions (having throughballs on rare and run with ball on often for example) and having a low teamwork attribute. A thing that I've read could help in this situation, though I'm happy to be corrected if this is wrong, is the PPM "prefers to pass rather than shoot".

The two things you could try are shouting "pass into space" to ensure that more throughballs are played, and buying players with higher teamwork attributes who will naturally look to play the ball to their teammates more often.

  2. I am not asking for your tactic but just tell me what's wrong with mine because obviously something is wrong.

Going off your previous post with your formation and roles I'd say there's a couple of things wrong with your setup:

-Isolated striker. Your lone striker won't be getting much of the ball playing off the shoulder of defenders with the poacher role. Depending on how you want him to play any of these, ranked from most creative to least, would be better with a support duty: CF, DLF, TM and DF. Attacking duties could also work, but you might have the same problems as with the poacher role. Give a few of those a try and then look at what works best for you.

-Little movement in midfield. I'm assuming that you have the DM on support duty with the defensive midfielder role, if not feel free to ignore part of this point. The roles you've selected for your two central midfielders mean that you're not committing men forward through the middle which adds to your stiker being isolated. I generally prefer to have at least one midfielder making runs forward in that formation, with the other playing slightly deeper. Central Midfielder (Attack) is the only midfield role which sets forward runs to "often", but several others set them to "mixed". I'd combine the CM (A) with one of those. While your two CMs currently don't have any forward runs, the defensive midfielder does, so I would change his role to something else.

I'm sure people will be able to give you much better advice than mine about your tactic and roles, but those things stood out for me as being potentially disruptive to your system and being the reasons for your lack of offensive intent. Hope it makes sense.

On another note, if your defenders are passing back to the goalkeeper you may want to set the defensive midfielder as the team's playmaker so that they pass the ball to him more often since he should mostly be free from markers. Avoid doing this when you're up against a team with an attacking midfielder.

  3. I've got a FM10 saved game of his in year 2023 somewhere. He sent it me to look over his training and tactics as he had a lot of questions and had made about 1k notes which accompanied them in player profiles etc. I'll have to see if I can find it when I get the chance. I'm pretty sure it was at this time he wrote Meet The System.

    That would be brilliant!

What about which version of FM the PKM is from? Does it matter?

The version is FM10. I doubt that the PKM's will be compatible with the newer games, though it might be worth a try.

  4. Good work Romanista.

Have you got a list of the posts that the PKM's refer to? It would be pretty cool if I could choose a PKM to watch and then read the accompanying thread too.

I don't remember what post they came from exactly, but iirc the Cardiff and West Brom matches were from 'Creativity and Flair' and both Barcelona and both Liverpool matches were from 'Meet the System'. The rest I'm not as sure about, but I may just have another read of his threads soon to see where they came from.

  5. This great thread has been lacking one thing: the PKM's that SFraser posted in his various threads. I have a number of them here and I've re-uploaded them incase the original links don't work anymore. I don't know if these are all the matches that he ever uploaded, but it should be the vast majority that were otherwise scattered in various threads and occasionally lost in his massive posts and are now all in one place on the forum.

Here are the links to the PKM's (on Rapidshare):

They're certainly worth looking at for the brilliant team that he assembled over the years in his save and the brilliant football played, but also just for the level of depth that he went into in his game. An example of the latter is how he set up his goalkeeper distribution: it's normally set towards the most technically able fullback, but whenever a youngster like Patrizio Cerra comes into the team it is changed to give him the ball and guarantee a number of easy passes throughout the match to build up confidence and help development.

    Enjoy.

  6. Thanks mate, there are no specific rules are there in italy? I thought it was similar to the prem? Also just been reading a blog about Pro Vercilli on FM and he mentions co-ownership deals. How do they work?

2 non-EU players from abroad per year is the main rule in terms of transfers and there is no registration.

Co-ownership is basically that you sell half of a player's playing rights and retain the other half. You can choose which team he stays with during a period of 1 or 2 years after which both teams make an offer and the player goes to the highest bidder (current team if offers are equal). During the period each team can buy the other's 50% share, while a third team would have to negotiate with both to get the player. Useful for limiting risk on transfers as a big team and equally useful for small teams to get some money in without losing the player.

  7. I know this isnt tactic related but I didnt want to create a brand new thread in the general discussion. Who are Pro Vercilli, somebody mentioned them yesterday and said they are a good team to manage. Why is this? Are they special in some crazy way. Sorry for my complete ignorance ;)

Pro Vercelli were a major force in the early years of Italian football, but had since dropped to Serie C1/C2 and it's basically one of those fallen giants games. They were promoted back to Serie B last year, however.

  8. what is the difference between a player with attacking Role and normal mentality compared to support role and attacking mentality? (for example for Wingback, DLF and CF)

and does running "sometimes" mean the player will decide for himself when he runs? or does it mean .. 50% of the time he runs? how does it work?

Mentality changes his position on the pitch as well as his propensity towards more attacking/defensive decisions (higher meaning the player is pushed up and likely to choose an attacking pass). The role affects other sliders such as passing length, closing down, run with ball and run from deep. It makes much broader changes to a player's behaviour.

In the case of running sometimes you're spot on with your first suggestion. It depends on the player's decision making and other factors like whether he sees the move (creativity) and is inclined to risk it (flair).

  9. lol' date=' its a lot easier than it may initially look.

Basically it's 3 games in one:

    - 8 people are playing an OOTP style game like wisla and Bamble have done in the past

    - 8 people are doing a 'fantasy football nation creation' task

    - The rest are creating a player and following their nation.

Hopefully that's what I've written above, but in 3 lines! :D[/quote']

    Ok, thanks for that. :)
