So the MLS boards are a bit wonky. Some context, I'm in a journeyman save, dual manager. In this instance, NYCFC and France. There were two instances this season where the board pulled a Darth Vader on me by altering the deal on me.

First I migrated over from a South Korean club in the K League to the MLS and joined Chicago. About 1/3rd through the season. The negotiated expectations were top half of the table. Around the 4th round of the US cup the press approaches me on my job being in peril. I checked the expectations, the MLS shield expectations jumped to top 4. (What's even more absurd is that season preview was 6th) No e-mail in my inbox notifying me of the changed expectations. After a regular season loss to New England, the Board wants an emergency meeting to discuss my future, I tell them to shove it and resign. Because at this point I just assume I got a power tripping boss.

Around 2/3rds through the MLS season I sign with NYCFC. Negotiated expectations were "not judging" in all competitions. Things were going smoothly. Game immediately after an international break I get told my job is in peril again by the press. I check and expectations were top 6 in supporter's shield. And that was the only competition they were giving a damn about, see the attached picture. On top of that, while still mathematically feasible, it would require basically everyone ahead of me to have a dramatic and total collapse.

Since the last repost I just powered through the regular season and the playoffs, thankfully I signed a two year deal, and they seem to have gotten over their tantrum for now.

    Some further context:

    1. I'm using a database that adds the lower US leagues as playable, if that matters.

    2. I did make some "warm body" signings to get ahead of any injury crisis or depth issues I had in both Chicago and NYCFC. The fans weren't happy about those, might have cascaded an issue.

    3. I have a full star's worth of reputation on all MLS teams.

  2. Board expectations in the MLS are borked.

Context: Journeyman save, I'm NYCFC and France dual coach.

I joined NYCFC about 2/3rds through the 2037 season and the contract was initially "not judging" in all competitions. After an international break I'm suddenly being judged by my predecessor's initial supporter's shield performance goal and nothing else. Notably, not the MLS performance. I didn't get an e-mail and I didn't think to check until I was approached by the press for job pressures.

    Other context:

    1. I have a database that enables the tiers below the MLS.

    2. I have a higher rep than NYCFC if it matters.

    3. This isn't the first time it happened to me this season, I was initially with Chicago and they changed their expectations from mid table to top 4 randomly.

    4. There was no e-mail indicating expectations changed.
