  1. Thanks for all your help guys.  I’ve played with the numbers and think I’m set on this for £680 (Decided to up the processor  to one with 12 threads).  Spot any obvious issues? Or am I good to go?

AMD Ryzen 3600 Six core CPU (3.6-4.2GHz)

    16GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM

    4GB NVIDA GEFORCE GTX

    1TB HDD

    256GB PCle M.2 SSD (1900 MB/R 1100 MB/W)

    Here's an alternative: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-home-office/tucAkXkfNN/

Better CPU than the previous one (very similar to the Lenovo), dedicated graphics card which will be good for what you're looking at.

You star.  Right I’ll go to 600 I think.  Can I ask two more questions.

    1) on both of your builds you haven’t selected a 1st storage drive.  Why is that?
    2) is that build better than the acer Nitro?

The Lenovo one is decent and very well priced in fairness so if you can stretch to it, then I would.

But if it is over your budget, then I'd suggest this: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-home-office/HRDHG3XKnk/

Decent integrated graphics which should work for both FM and Sketchup.

cheers mate,  the Lenovo one says it’s available, but I can’t find anywhere to collect it from.  Might have to go with your option.

What else would you be doing with the computer, ie, any other games?  And do you play FM in 3D?

Thanks for getting back to me.  Your advice is great.  This is the first time in 10yrs I’ve returned to CM / FM, so happy to give 3D a whirle.

I will also use the pc for architectural design work and basic 3D modelling (sketch up)

Good morning! I am looking to gest a desktop PC, as i think these will be more powerful than a laptop (pls correct me if I'm wrong!). I currently have a Microsoft Surface Book 2 laptop (Intel Core i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90 GHZ 2.11 GHz with 16 GB installed RAM with Windows 10.

The reason for looking to run FM21 on a new machine is because i found this machine to get very hot when playing FM20. I'm not sure if FM21 will cause the same issues or not? Is there anything I could buy do you think to help with this, extra memory or anything like that?

I would like to run the majority of the leagues with a full selection of all the players in the World being generated. Money is not the most important thing so am happy to spend in excess of £1,000 for the right machine. I would really only be playing FM on this machine and Civilization 4.

I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions if money is not the object to play this game with all the leagues loaded and players in the game operating at a good speed without overheating and using the 3D match engine. If it is better to get the computer built with specifications it would be amazing to know what i should be telling a shop to build for me?

Yep ive come to the same conclusion as you over desktop / laptop.  My budget isn’t as big as yours, see the link above to a Lenovo one.

  6. I’m now thinking a desktop pc may be better value for money?  I don’t really need the portability of a laptop anymore.

    found this one,

But it’s over my budget, any decent suggestions for a desktop around £500?

if not and if the leneovo one is decent I could be tempted

I'm looking at getting a new lap top as my seven year old Lenovo is on its last legs.  I play FM20 currently (may move up to FM21 at some point, but maybe not), normally with only one nation (England) and seven leagues (i.e. down to National North/South), but would like the option to potentially expand this out a bit.  I'm not too fussed about the quality of the graphics.  I don’t play other games, so main other uses are browsing, music and Netflix etc while we're away.

I can't justify a big budget due to the reduced usage/game play these days (pesky kids), so I accept that I'll end up with a slower than average game speed.

How do these two compare?  A friend recommended the first, but the processor ranks really low on the comparison site.  Is the extra £100+ justified for the second one?

    Thanks in advance

I was looking at the HP one, but was unsure as it doesn’t have a graphics card
