Quite OP this tactic I feel. I've got 2* Cirjan performing as a god as a treq. Even better than Pedri! Any kind of quick player with good off the ball performing as either AM-A gets crazy good results as well.

I've been successful with a strikerless tactic on my own as well. As a matter of fact, it's been the only tactic that is working for me, as I can finally get my ST to participate (works fine with both Ibra or Moukoko likes). Can you send your tactics so I can try it here?

  2. I think many of us learned the hard way that the formation showing in the tactics screen is actually the defensive positioning of the players during the match (I'm pretty sure many players still don't know that). Well, since the departure of the arrows, some older players like me might have found a bit difficult to cope with the where-are-these-guys-going. Sometimes we EXPECT players to do a certain movement when attacking based on their role, traits and mentality, but sometimes is also hard to picture the whole team movement. Some will say "mate, change something and then check analysis", but I don't think that's what happens in real life. Managers would show the movement they expect from the players in the white board. Sometimes you change one role in midfield and that prevents your winger from not cutting inside as you wanted, because that area is taken. But there are so many possibilities that might be hard to foresee all them.

  3. FM21 for me so far. I didn't play the 22 and many people say it's even better. But, for me, FM21 has the best engine by miles. It's the most realistic and less flawed (although some things like players running like crazy to get a ball that is going for a throw-in for their own side just to not make it and touch the ball and lose the throw-in really **** me off).

I played a lot of FM05 (before some update, Henry was a monster at Barça), but it could be very easy. FM08 was my favorite before 3D. I turned a Brazilian Third Division team into the best side in the planet (spoiler: Bahia's youth at that version was a scandal). FM16 was when I first noticed a change in the matches, with really nice through balls. I have a great save with Tottenham and managed to make my team play some great football. FM18 pissed me off in the beggining because of the terrible long shots. But after finding the right tactic, I could succeed with any side. Also have great saves there.

But I saw many saying that FM17 was the best. I never had it, so I got myself a copy to try it, and I must say, so far, that the engine is quite nice. Fluid, smooth, very good looking graphics and less flaws than 16 and 18. It's been fun so far, as I took a break on FM21 and these old versions are much faster to play.

  4. I totally agree with you. It's completely pointless how it's presented now. I have my default tactics and I want to add only small changes for every match. If you do like I often do when asking a player to man-mark someone in the opposition and I forget I did this, it's staying there until I realize he's acting weird. Happened just now with me and destroyed the end of my season. That was a very stupid UI decision, like many others in this version.

  5. Questions: do you keep the same approach no matter the opposition you face? I'm trying to make it work with Bayern and the players seem to be getting te idea slowly (I turned the left winger into WM-S and VOL-S into VOL-A as I needed that area in front of him and behind Lewa to be filled).

Second question is how to make this work with Milan?, as Ibra is quite slow and tends to get isolated in front.

  6. I think that the game has evolved to the level the tactics creator needs more input from us to achieve desired patterns. So I think it would be interesting if we could work with "if"s so that we can actually tell players when we want them to do something. Sometimes I don't player moves to be automatic as:

    AMC/AP-s drops deep

    DM/VOL-at overlaps AMC

What if I want my AMC to drop deep only if my FB is going up? What if I want my right FB-at to move forward only if the left one is staying back? And, if he goes forward, I want my RCM to stay wider and back to cover him (like an inverted mezzala). This would take tactics to another level, for sure.

Still FM2018 buddy  Reaching the point now where the old database is making the prospect of a new game more challenging, but interest in experimenting with the tactics creator and creating new styles of football remains strong. Maybe one day the FM creators will bring it more back in line with my interests. Fingers crossed!

I'm with you on this. Tried both 20 and 21, but it felt so boring watching the matches. It's always one team defending with 9 players inside the box and the opposition passing the ball around until someone hits a 30y-screamer. Or goals from counter, specially after an intercepted corner. FM18 creates some beautiful gameplay despite of some bizarre glitches or long shots. Through balls really happen.

I'm aware FM21 has by far the most realistic match engine ever, but real football is most of the time boring.

I'm happy that it works so well for you. But yours has sort of become a very different tactic. Still I am glad that this thread recaptured your passion for FM21

Indeed, totally different. But I made the changes over your tactic. And I'm keeping yours too mostly for home matches. As I was testing this one above on top dogs, I was facing more teams parking the bus. But with both Bayer and Barça they can be switched very easilly, don't even need to replace players :D

  9. Wow, this was a game changer for me. I was already giving up on FM21 and going back to FM18 where I had some safe saves. Nothing was working for me until I tried this. I created a test save with Bayern and worked like a charm. I turned it into a 4-3-3 strikerless and it's now even better. I kept the TI and some PI and it's a beauty to watch. Also suited Barcelona perfectly. I wanted to make this 4-3-3-0 to work for a while, but it wasn't clicking. It's perfect against those parking the bus, as the SS (or T, in Barcelona) draw the central defenders away from their position. And Mezzala + Carrilero go wider while the wingers move to the center with more space.

  10. Since the 2012 I've been buying FM every two years only.

    The most enjoyable
FM16. It's the one I'm actually playing and having tons of fun with my teams playing very nice football. Won all 6 Premier Leagues I played with Tottenham so far (only 2 of them were really easy). Of course it got easy over time when I knew all the great wonderkids, but who cares?

The one I was the most successful
FM08. I nailed this game. Started from Brazilian Serie C and won the Libertadores in the 4th season. Then a second one and a pre-Sheik Moneybags Man City hired me. Had to build a whole new team, but started winning everything after the second season. Bad thing about this versions is the regen aspect. Very bad ones.

    The most realistic
It's FM20, yes, but where's the fun? All opponents parking the bus, my strikers don't participate in the build-up (or score at all), LOTS of penalties (Kessie was my striker in the only full season I played, scoring more goals than all my strikers together)

I still play FM16 and my stats tell me I score more from through balls than crosses

I get a lot from crosses, but my tactic is very winger-based, but yet I score a lot from 1-2s and build-up play from outside the area.

    Enjoy the crossing fest :)

    But it's a lot of fun, isn't it? :D

At least I get goals from my strikers. They even receive some balls.

  12. The most boring ME ever. There's no pleasure on playing this AT ALL. FInished my first full season with Milan, ended up 2nd tied with Lazio as champions, but this is my scoresheet ranking for the season:

    1. Kessié - 16 goals
    2. Boga - 14
    3. Paquetá - 10
    4. Douglas Costa - 4
    5. Mariano - 4
    6. Rafael Leão - 4
    7. Eseola - 2

My three strikers together had less goals than KESSIÉ. Oh, there was also Ajorque scoring 2 goals and Ibrahimovic scoring none, so KESSIÉ was still good. This makes no sense. Gonna start the next season in manager mode only, not watching the games, just handling the team. But going back to FM16, which is way more fun.
