Now that's an idea, especially as Scotland splits into that final stage, you could take the top team (or two) out of there and put them in a final stage with the old firm instead. The thing is, moving Rangers and Celtic to the EPL means their European homegrown rules will be for 8 players who came up through England - their current rosters accommodate this but it's a huge pain and setback to any kind of Lisbon Lions-type homegrown planning. That seems hard-coded to their "nation" rather than their "continental cup nation" (which you can change back to Scottish), and "nation" has to be English if they're playing there. I think the Welsh teams might be hard-coded for this. Been brainstorming solutions, like some kind of wider British Premier League, but I don't think you can do much with those United Kingdom/Great Britain nationalities that operate in the background somehow

Hmm I didn't know the homegrown rule was coded to nation rather than continental cup nation, but I think it would still be fun to play.   Given the resources of the EPL the old firm teams should be able to help Scotland move up the uefa coefficient ladder.

nah, they were only ever "my closest team" even before I moved east for work. I'll definitely be watching tonight, at least - they've started the season very well, though of course I've already learned this year from my other underachieving team in blue and white not to put too much stock in a hot start

On one hand I think that could work, or at least I can see the structure of it. On the other hand I know I will never have the energy to actually do it.

Plus, the idea that custom continental rules block dynamic reputation makes no sense (even if dynamic rep is just a weird hack on continental coefficients, why not let it use custom coefficients?), so year after year I hope in vain that SI will actually change it.

So what exactly does league reputation effect? Does it put a cap on your club's reputation? Let say I take a south american club and I keep winning the FIFA CL, would my team's reputation go all the way to the top?

As in, give some teams ranked lower than 57 more than 2 slots? Either way, I've thought of making some changes to have a more gradual shift in the slots - currently nobody gets 5 spots and nobody gets 3 spots, for example - but that part of this setup has more or less been working so tinkering with it has been a low priority. I'll look into it.

Huh, weird. I'll have to look at it again. Are you using any other data files with it? One of the ways I tried to manage compatibility was to disable my fixes if certain Canadian competitions that are extinct in the base DB are not extinct in the new save (as a sign that another file might be working in Canada that I want to stay out of the way of) but I might have to revisit that idea if it's disabling them when it shouldn't be.

Ok I tested the file again without other data files and it's still not working.  Every year its only the CPL teams getting into the competition.

The tax tweak is cool.  I initially used it to RAISE the taxes in China and Middle-East nations in an attempt to make it less attractive to top players.

Tax rates can also be set differently for foreign players than domestic players.

One knock on effect of altering Exchange Rate is that in addition to functionally raising the cap, it will also raise the DP cap charge.  Which can lead to having players making LESS than the DP charge, being charged at higher DP cap rate.   This is also sometimes the case in default Database with players making less than the full DP cap rate.  I dont know if this is an error, or yet another complexity of MLS financial rules.

I use the Pre-Game Editor and switch contract types from Designated Player to Fulltime for anyone making LESS than the cap charge.

If I remove DP desgination for a player I check the Club Detail screen to make sure "Extra Designated Player Slot (MLS clubs only) is UN-ticked.

Or, when I've added a 3rd DP to a club that didn't previously have 3 DPs, make sure to TICK that box.

I dont know if that makes a difference at all in the game, or if the game adjusts automatically, but I do it to try to avoid any potential problems.

I've never actually managed in MLS, I've just wanted it to be a somewhat stronger league in my games.

Another thing you can do if you want to make MLS more attractive to players, is to raise the Competition and or clubs reputations.

If you're planning on a long term US based save, raising the US Game Importance and Youth Rating will make a difference over a few seasons.  (found on Nations>United States>Information)

Thanks for all the helpful tips.  Much appreciated.

I hit the same problem when I created my USA fantasy league with Canadian teams. it seems to be hardcoded that only allows American team to qualify.

My solution is not the best, but works. Anyway the solution is, you have to duplicate the canadian teams and set the new ones has an american city (set the local region to any US state, it will change the country to USA).

The negative points you will have more american players in the canadian teams (including what comes from you youth).

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for your suggestion, I was experimenting and I came across this solution as well.  But it's not ideal as the youth will be American instead of Canadian like you already mentioned.  I thought about maybe creating C teams that are based in Canada for these Canadian teams but I don't think they generate a lot of regens from those C teams.  Another idea I had was to make their chairman have this "buy players from Canada" trait and set it to pretty high for Canadian teams in order to stop these Canadian teams to be fully American.  But I haven't had time this week to experiment with these two ideas yet, hopefully they will work.

  6. Are Canadian teams hardcoded in the game to join the Canadian Championship?  I created a new MLS and put it in europe but no matter what I do they will not join the UEFA Champions League.  Even when they finish 1st or 2nd the champions league spot will go to the next placed team.  I tried to remove Canadian Championship from the database but that doesn't seem to help.  Can anyone help?
